Background: Patients increasingly search for dermatological information on YouTube; however, the successful presence of dermatologists on this platform is limited. Audience retention is essential to ensure success, as the YouTube algorithm considers it to rank videos. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study in dermatology that focuses on audience retention on YouTube.

Introduction: Dermatological information on social media is dominated by misleading and potentially harmful content from nonexperts. Literature suggests that, to address this issue, dermatologists should develop an online presence. However, the successful presence of dermatologists on social media has been criticized for focusing on cosmetic dermatology and not representing the broad spectrum of the specialty.

Article Synopsis
  • * In a study of 805 cardiac surgery patients, 42 developed pneumonia, and 228 had renal dysfunction; procalcitonin levels were higher in infected patients regardless of kidney status.
  • * Adjusting the procalcitonin threshold based on renal function improved its accuracy for diagnosing infections in patients with or without renal issues.

Currently, some monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) are being studied for chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP). Three anti-IL-5 mAb: mepolizumab, reslizumab and benralizumab, have been tested through randomized clinical trials. In this real-life study, we aimed to describe the nasal effects of a cohort of asthmatic adults treated with anti-IL-5 mAb.

Plantar Fasciitis in Soccer Players-A Systemic Review.

Int J Environ Res Public Health

Soccer is one of the most popular sports in the world. Players often suffer a variety of injuries, the most common being injuries to muscles and tendons. It is striking that with soccer, being the most practiced sport, and considering that most injuries occur in the lower extremities, plantar fasciitis (PF) is not one of the most frequent injuries (at least in terms of clinical data collected).

Diagnosis of cardiac surgery-associated acute kidney injury (CSA-AKI), a syndrome of sudden renal dysfunction occurring in the immediate post-operative period, is still sub-optimal. Standard CSA-AKI diagnosis is performed according to the international criteria for AKI diagnosis, afflicted with insufficient sensitivity, specificity, and prognostic capacity. In this article, we describe the limitations of current diagnostic procedures and of the so-called injury biomarkers and analyze new strategies under development for a conceptually enhanced diagnosis of CSA-AKI.

C1-C2 Rotatory Subluxation in Adults "A Narrative Review".

Diagnostics (Basel)

July 2022

Department of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Physiology, Health Sciences Faculty, GIR: "Physical Exercise and Aging", University of Valladolid, Campus Universitario "Los Pajaritos", 42004 Soria, Spain.

The atlantoaxial joint C2 (axis) with the anterior arch of C1 (atlas) allows 50% of cervical lateral rotation. It is responsible for precise and important movements that allow us to perform precise actions, both in normal and working life. Due to low incidence in adults, this condition often goes undiagnosed, or the diagnosis is delayed and the outcome is worse.

A Polygenic Risk Score Based on a Cardioembolic Stroke Multitrait Analysis Improves a Clinical Prediction Model for This Stroke Subtype.

Front Cardiovasc Med

July 2022

Stroke Pharmacogenomics and Genetics Group, Institut d'Investigació Biomèdica Sant Pau (IIB SANT PAU), Barcelona, Spain.

Background: Occult atrial fibrillation (AF) is one of the major causes of embolic stroke of undetermined source (ESUS). Knowing the underlying etiology of an ESUS will reduce stroke recurrence and/or unnecessary use of anticoagulants. Understanding cardioembolic strokes (CES), whose main cause is AF, will provide tools to select patients who would benefit from anticoagulants among those with ESUS or AF.

Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) increases the risk of ischemic stroke in asymptomatic individuals and may be the underlying cause of many cryptogenic strokes. We aimed to test the usefulness of candidate blood-biomarkers related to AF pathophysiology in two prospective cohorts representative of those populations.

Methods: Two hundred seventy-four subjects aged 65-75 years with hypertension and diabetes from the AFRICAT cohort, and 218 cryptogenic stroke patients aged >55 years from the CRYPTO-AF cohort were analyzed.

The CACNA1C and the ZNF804A genes are among the most relevant schizophrenia GWAS findings. Recent evidence shows that the interaction of these genes with the schizophrenia diagnosis modulates brain functional response to a verbal fluency task. To better understand how these genes might influence the risk for schizophrenia, we aimed to study the interplay between CACNA1C and ZNF804A on working memory brain functional correlates.

One of the strongest risk factors for death in individuals undergoing cardiac surgery is Cardiac Surgery Associated-Acute Kidney Injury (CSA-AKI). Although the minimum kidney oxygen delivery index (DOi) during cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) has been reported, the optimal threshold value has not yet been established. A prospective study was conducted from June 2012 to January 2016 to asses how DOi influences the pathogenesis of CSA-AKI, as well as its most favorable cut-off value.

Restoration in Vertebral Compression Fractures (VCF): Effectiveness Evaluation Based on 3D Technology.

J Funct Biomater

May 2022

Department of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Physiology, Health Sciences Faculty, GIR: "Physical Exercise and Aging", University of Valladolid, Campus Universitario "Los Pajaritos", 42004 Soria, Spain.

There are few studies about anatomical reduction of the fractured vertebral body before stabilization for treatment of vertebral compression fracture (VCF). Although restoration on vertebral height has been useful, the reduction of fractured endplates is limited. The vertebra is part of a joint, and vertebral endplates must be treated like other weight-bearing joint to avoid complications.

Electronic address:

The KCNH2 gene, encoding for a subunit of a voltage-gated potassium channel, has been identified as a key element of neuronal excitability and a promising novel therapeutic target for schizophrenia (SZ). Nonetheless, evidence highlighting the role of KCNH2 on cognitive and brain activity phenotypes comes mainly from studies based on healthy controls (HC). Therefore, we aimed to study the role of KCNH2 on the brain functional differences between patients with SZ and HC.

Biological Approach in the Treatment of External Popliteal Sciatic Nerve (Epsn) Neurological Injury: Review.

J Clin Med

May 2022

Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Physiology, Faculty of Health Sciences, GIR Physical Exercise and Aging, University of Valladolid, Campus Duques de Soria, 42004 Soria, Spain.

The external popliteal sciatic nerve (EPSN) is the nerve of the lower extremity most frequently affected by compressive etiology. Its superficial and sinuous anatomical course is closely related to other rigid anatomical structures and has an important dynamic neural component. Therefore, this circumstance means that this nerve is exposed to multiple causes of compressive etiology.

Understanding what matters most to patients can help guide research in a direction that is best situated to provide evidence that is responsive to their core concerns. This can better inform the treatment decision-making process for patients and their physicians. The Aortic Dissection (AD) Collaborative built a collaborative AD research infrastructure involving patients and other stakeholders to facilitate patient-centered outcomes research training, support, and networking among those affected by AD.
