Introduction: Intense pulsed light (IPL) treatment is well known for, for example, photo rejuvenation, where higher cut-off filters are used. The longer wavelengths penetrate deeper in the dermis leading to damage of the collagen and stimulation of new collagen formation, which lead to more soft and elastic skin. Microstomia in systemic sclerosis is the end result of excessive collagen deposition, which makes the perioral skin firm and tight.

Every 30 s, a lower limb is amputated due to diabetes. Of all amputations in diabetic patients 85% are preceded by a foot ulcer which subsequently deteriorates to a severe infection or gangrene. There is a complexity of factors related to healing of foot ulcers including strategies for treatment of decreased perfusion, oedema, pain, infection, metabolic disturbances, malnutrition, non-weight bearing, wound treatment, foot surgery, and management of intercurrent disease.

Objective: The primary aim of this study was to compare the incidence of catheter-associated bacteriuria with a noble metal alloy-coated latex catheter or a non-coated silicone catheter in patients undergoing elective orthopaedic surgery with short-term catheterization. Secondary objectives included identifying risk factors for bacteriuria and catheter-associated urinary tract symptoms.

Material And Methods: The study compared 217 patients randomized to and receiving a silicone catheter with 222 patients treated with a coated latex catheter.
