Background: As the population ages, more people will be diagnosed with cancer, and they will live longer due to receiving better treatment and optimized palliative care. Family members will be expected to take on more responsibilities related to providing palliative care at home. Several countries have expressed their vision of making home death an option, but such a vision can be more challenging in rural areas.

Infections with Cytomegalovirus (CMV), Herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV1) and Toxoplasma gondii (TG) have been implicated in severe mental illness. All three pathogens have high seroprevalence in the human population, are neurotropic and establish a persistent infection. We hypothesized that exposed (seropositive) patients with severe mental illness would show higher immunoglobulin G (IgG) concentrations than exposed healthy controls (HC).

Retinoblastoma (RB) proteins are highly conserved transcriptional regulators that play important roles during development by regulating cell-cycle gene expression. RBL2 dysfunction has been linked to a severe neurodevelopmental disorder. However, to date, clinical features have only been described in six individuals carrying five biallelic predicted loss of function (pLOF) variants.

Background: The digital shift toward remote consultations in general practice needs ongoing monitoring to understand its impact on general practice organizations and the wider health care system.
Objective: This study aimed to explore how remote consultations impact on contracted general practitioner (GP) practices and how GPs perceive the implications of this uptake for the overall health care system.
Methods: In total, 5 focus groups were conducted with a total of 18 GPs from all 4 health regions of Norway in 2022.

Objective: The purposes of this study were to assess the clinical characteristics of patients with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) who fulfill the ClASsification criteria for Psoriatic ARthritis (CASPAR) 18 years after disease onset in a population-based setting and to identify features likely to predict psoriatic arthritis (PsA).
Methods: Patients with JIA from defined geographic regions of Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden with disease onset from 1997 to 2000 were enrolled prospectively and followed up for 18 years. Clinical, laboratory, and heredity data for psoriasis were collected.

Background: Inflammation is the most important deriving force for the development of colitis-associated colorectal cancer (CAC) through the Inflammation-Pretumor dysplasia-CAC sequence. T helper (Th) subsets Th9 and Th17 cells can potentially stimulate inflammation in the ulcerative colitis (UC). Therefore, Th9 and Th17 cells may play a promoting role in the colitis-associated dysplasia (CAD).

Background: The diagnostic and prognostic performance of the novel fluid biomarkers brain-derived tau (BD-tau) and phospho-tau217 (p-tau217) in Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) is not defined.
Methods: We measured cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and plasma BD-tau, p-tau217, p-tau181, total tau (t-tau), neurofilament light (NfL), and 14-3-3 in 100 CJD patients, 100 with non-prion rapidly progressive dementia (np-RPD), 92 with mild cognitive impairment due to Alzheimer's disease (AD-MCI), and 55 healthy controls (HC).
Results: Plasma BD-tau performed comparably to plasma t-tau but had lower performance than CSF t-tau (p < 0.

Background: Governments and policy makers struggle to achieve a balance between hierarchical steering and horizontal governance in systems characterized by fragmented decision authority and multiple interests. To realize its One Citizen-One Journal eHealth policy vision, the Norwegian government established a special eHealth board of stakeholders to create an inclusive governance model that aligned stakeholders' interests with the government's ambitions through coordination and consensus. Little empirical knowledge exists on how countries realize inclusive governance models.

Objective: The efficacy of TNF inhibitors for treating chronic low back pain with Modic changes is uncertain. This study investigated the superiority of infliximab over placebo in patients with Modic changes type 1.
Methods: In this multicenter, randomized, triple-blind, placebo-controlled trial, patients aged 18-65 with moderate to severe chronic low back pain and Modic changes type 1 were enrolled from five Norwegian public hospitals between January 2019 and October 2022.

Background: As a response to the political decision by the Norwegian Ministry of Health and Care Services to establish some kind of "medication free treatment" for patients with severe mental illness throughout the country, a 6-bed ward unit dedicated to offer such treatment was in 2017 established in Tromsø, Norway by the North Norway Health Care Region. The aim of the present study was to explore the experiences of patients admitted to this ward unit.
Method: Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 19 persons who had received treatment from the ward during the period January 2017 to October 2021.

Numerous cadaveric AWR training courses have been set up with the goal of helping practicing surgeons learn and incorporate them into their surgical repertoire. Some maybe excellent but their quality and consistency are unknown.

Background: This study aimed to identify novel plasma proteins associated with first-lifetime venous thromboembolism (VTE) and molecular pathways involved in VTE pathogenesis.
Methods: A case-cohort comprising incident VTE cases ( = 294) and a randomly sampled age- and sex-weighted subcohort ( = 1,066) was derived from the Trøndelag Health Study (HUNT3, n = 50,800). Blood samples were collected and stored at cohort inclusion (2006-2008), and participants were followed up to 5 years.

BK polyomavirus (BKPyV) is a ubiquitous human virus that establishes a persistent infection in renal tubular epithelial cells and mainly causes disease in kidney transplant recipients. The closely related simian polyomavirus SV40 is known to cause cytoplasmic vacuolization in simian kidney cells, possibly increasing progeny release and cell death. This study aimed to determine whether BKPyV causes cytoplasmic vacuolization in primary human renal proximal tubule epithelial cells (RPTECs) and to investigate its potential role in the replication cycle.

Background: With increasing focus on patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) in chronic rheumatic diseases, we aimed to evaluate the self-reported physical and psychosocial health in children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) compared to matched population-based controls. Furthermore, we aimed to study the association of patient- and physician-reported outcome measures in JIA with patient-reported physical disability.
Methods: We used data from a Norwegian JIA cohort study (NorJIA), including clinical characteristics and outcome measures in participants with JIA and sex- and age-matched population-based controls.

Potentially toxic metals and trace elements have been used in Malawi for a long time. However, data on exposure to these elements by susceptible groups like pregnant women and its associations with reproductive health outcomes in Malawi and southern hemisphere is limited. We investigated the concentrations of potentially toxic metals as well as trace elements in pregnant women and assessed the relationship between the levels these elements in maternal blood and sociodemographic factors, dietary habits and birth outcomes.
