Background: This study aimed to investigate the differences in clinical outcomes between anatomical alignment and mechanical alignment in each knee, respectively, in patients who underwent bilateral total knee arthroplasty.
Methods: Bilateral simultaneous total knee arthroplasty using a posterior-stabilized prosthesis was performed between June 2016 and May 2018, with one knee undergoing anatomical alignment and the contralateral knee undergoing mechanical alignment, which was randomized. Osgood-Schlatter disease (OSD) reduces participation in sports activities for adolescents, and, in unresolved cases of the disease in which daily life or sports activity after skeletal maturity are affected, surgical intervention to remove the ossicle is performed to alleviate symptoms. We present a real-time virtual sonography (RVS)-guided ossicle removal in unresolved OSD. The knee joint angle is set at 20°, which is the same position used in magnetic resonance imaging.

Background: Acute mesenteric ischemia (AMI) is an emergent vascular disease caused by cessation of the blood supply to the small intestine. Despite advances in the diagnosis, intervention, and surgical procedures, AMI remains a life-threatening condition. Objectives: Signs of life (SOLs) during cardiac arrest (gasping, pupillary light reaction, or any form of body movement) are suggested to be associated with favorable neurologic outcomes in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). While data has demonstrated that extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (ECPR) can improve outcomes in cases of refractory cardiac arrest, it is expected that other contributing factors lead to positive outcomes. Introduction: Cardiac arrest is a critical condition, and patients often experience postcardiac arrest syndrome (PCAS) even after the return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC). Administering a restricted amount of oxygen in the early phase after ROSC has been suggested as a potential therapy for PCAS; however, the optimal target for arterial partial pressure of oxygen or peripheral oxygen saturation (SpO) to safely and effectively reduce oxygen remains unclear. Therefore, we aimed to validate the efficacy of restricted oxygen treatment with 94%-95% of the target SpO during the initial 12 hours after ROSC for patients with PCAS.

Background: Our study aimed to assess the ability of nonmedical civilians to self-apply extremity tourniquets in cold weather conditions while wearing insulating technical clothing after receiving basic training.
Methods: A field study was conducted among 37 voluntary participants of an expedition party to the Spanish Antarctic base. The researchers assessed the participant's ability to self-apply five commercial extremity tourniquets (CAT, OMNA, RMT, SWAT-T, and RATS) over cold-weather clothing and their achieved effectiveness for vascular occlusion.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective historical control study of OHCA patients in Japan between 2015-2022. The patients were divided according to time of admission, where day-time was considered 07:00-22:59 and night-time 23:00-06:59.

Quinones are frequently used as derivatization reagents in HPLC analysis to improve detection sensitivity. In the present study, a simple, sensitive, and selective chemiluminescence (CL) derivatization strategy for biogenic amines, prior to their HPLC-CL analysis, was developed. The novel CL derivatization strategy was established based on using anthraquinone-2-carbonyl chloride as derivatizing agent for amines and then using the unique property of the quinones' moiety to generate reactive oxygen species (ROS) in response to UV irradiation.

Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the hemodynamic protective effects of perioperative ventilation in pressure-controlled ventilation (PCV) and adaptive support ventilation (ASV) modes based on non-invasive hemodynamic monitoring indicators.
Methods: The study included 32 patients who were scheduled for planned open abdominal surgery. Depending on the chosen ventilation strategy, patients were included in two groups of PCV mode ventilation (n=14) and ASV mode ventilation (n=18).
