Introduction: The basophil activation test (BAT) is a flow cytometry laboratory technique that assesses the level of activation indicators expressed on the surface of basophils. We conducted a real-life study in a prospective cohort of patients with reported drug hypersensitivity reactions to determine the true relevance of BAT as a diagnostic tool for assessing immediate hypersensitivity reactions to medicines.
Methods: We prospectively assessed individuals with clinical suspicion of immediate hypersensitivity reactions to drugs over a 2-year period.

Diamond-Blackfan anemia (DBA) is a ribosomopathy characterized by bone marrow erythroid hypoplasia, which typically presents with severe anemia within the first months of life. DBA is typically attributed to a heterozygous mutation in a ribosomal protein (RP) gene along with a defect in the ribosomal RNA (rRNA) maturation or levels. Besides classic DBA, DBA-like disease has been described with variations in 16 genes (primarily in , followed by alias , , and ).

Chronic low back pain (CLBP) is common in primary care, causing disability and economic burden globally. We aimed to compare socio-demographic, health, lifestyle, and psychological factors in people with and without CLBP and correlate them with clinical outcomes in people with CLBP. A total of 253 volunteers with and 116 without CLBP provided sociodemographic information, daily habits, medical history, subjective sleep complaints (Penn State Sleep Questionnaire), low back pain intensity, and disability (Quebec Back Pain Disability Scale), as well as the Zung Self-Rating Scale for self-assessment of depression and Self-Rating Anxiety Scale.

Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) is a severe demyelinating disease of the central nervous system (CNS) caused by reactivation of the polyomavirus JC (JCV) typically in immunocompromised individuals. The risk of PML among rheumatic diseases may be higher for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), without, however, a clear association with the type and intensity of background therapy. We present the development and outcome of PML in a 32-year-old female lupus patient under mild immunosuppressive treatment, yet with marked B-cell lymphopenia in the peripheral blood and bone marrow (<1% of total lymphocytes).

The personalization of therapies in breast cancer has favoured the introduction of new molecular-targeted therapies into clinical practice. Among them, cyclin-dependent kinases 4 and 6 (CDK4/6) inhibitors have acquired increasing importance, with the approval in recent years of palbociclib, ribociclib, and abemaciclib in combination with endocrine therapy. Currently, no guidelines are available to monitor and manage potential long-term toxicities associated with the use of these drugs.

Objective: The clinical importance of following up on the ascending aortic diameter lies in the fundamental presumption that wall pathology eventually manifests as a change in shape. However, the diameter describes the vessel locally, and the 55 mm criterion fails to prevent most dissections. We hypothesized that geometric changes across the ascending aorta are not necessarily imprinted on its diameter; i.

Telomeres are the ends of chromosomes that protect them from DNA damage. There is evidence to suggest that telomere shortening appears with advanced age. Since aging is a significant risk factor for developing age-related complications, it is plausible that telomere shortening may be involved in the development of osteoporosis.

Many events, including the COVID-19 pandemic, have accelerated the implementation of teledermatology pathways within dermatology departments and across healthcare organizations. Quality of Life (QoL) assessment in dermatology is also a rapidly developing field with a gradual shift from theory to practice. The purpose of this paper organized jointly by the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV) Task Force (TF) on QoL and patient-oriented outcomes and the EADV TF on teledermatology is to present current knowledge about QoL assessment during the use of teledermatology approaches, including data on health-related (HR) QoL instruments used in teledermatology, comparison of influence of different treatment methods on HRQoL after face-to-face and teledermatology consultations and to make practical recommendations concerning the assessment of QoL in teledermatology.

Background And Objective: A chronic wound is one that is physiologically compromised as a result of a disturbance of the wound-healing cycle brought on by, among other parameters, poor angiogenesis, innervation, or cellular migration. Given the high frequency and incidence rates of different wound categories in clinical practice in the setting of chronically ill patients, wound management is becoming an increasingly important component and pillar of the overall care of patients with terminal illnesses. The purpose of this narrative review is to provide an overview and evaluation of the assessment methods and management of chronic wounds in the clinical practice of palliative care.

We present the first documented case of a successful closure of a transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR)-induced Gerbode defect using a valve-in-valve approach. A 90-year-old female with severe aortic stenosis underwent TAVR. Following post-dilatation, the patient experienced hemodynamic deterioration and collapse due to tamponade and sub-annular rupture leading to hemodynamic deterioration and the development of a Gerbode defect with communication between the left ventricle and right atrium.

Upon finding skeletal unidentified remains, four are the questions that must be answered: age, sex, ancestry, and stature. Regarding age estimation, clavicle has received special attention because medial epiphysis is the last epiphysis, among long bones that ossifies. Falys and Prangle proposed a method of age estimation based on three degenerative characteristics-surface topography (TOP), Porosity (POR) and Osteophyte formation (OST)-evaluated on the sternal end of the clavicle according to the descriptions and the illustrations provided in the original article producing satisfactory results.
