Background: The growing use of leadless pacemaker (LP) technology requires safe and effective solutions for retrieving and removing these devices over the long term.
Objectives: This study sought to evaluate retrieval and removal of an active helix-fixation LP studied in worldwide regulatory clinical trials.
Methods: Subjects enrolled in the LEADLESS II phase 1 investigational device exemption, LEADLESS Observational, or LEADLESS Japan trials with an attempted LP retrieval at least 6 weeks postimplantation were included.

Cardiac implantable electronic devices and their integrated thoracic impedance sensors have been used to detect sleep apnea for over a decade now. Despite their usage in daily clinical practice, there are only limited data on their diagnostic accuracy. AIRLESS and UPGRADE were prospective investigator-driven trials meant to validate the AP scan (Boston Scientific, Marlborough, MA, USA) in heart failure cohorts.

In March 2020, World Health Organization recognized severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) emergence as a public health emergency of international concern. One of the major preventative measures developed against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) was vaccines. To monitor their use and safety of vaccines from the first utilization in humans during clinical development phases to implementation for the general population, an enhanced national pharmacovigilance system was enabled by the French National Agency for Medicines and Health Products Safety in collaboration with the 30 Regional Pharmacovigilance Centres.

Objectives: To analyse peripapillary and papillary superficial microvascularization using OCT-angiography (OCT-A) in patients with non-arteritic ischaemic optic neuropathy (NAION) at the acute and resolutive stages.
Methods: This retrospective case-control study conducted between October 2018 and November 2019 included 23 NAION subjects at the acute stage (onset <1 month) and 20 patients at the resolutive stage (onset >3 months). NAION and contralateral eyes were compared to control eyes of patients (n = 50) matched 1:1 for refractive error, sex, age, systemic hypertension, diabetes, and sleep apnoea syndrome.

Deep brain stimulation is a well-established treatment for improving motor symptoms in Parkinson's disease. However, persistent non-motor symptoms, such as excessive daytime sleepiness, remain a significant challenge and necessitate further investigation. In this study, we conducted repeated measurements of daytime sleepiness using a modified multiple sleep latency test in a healthy monkey (macaca fascicularis), which was later rendered parkinsonian through MPTP administration.

Chemoradiation therapy is on the forefront of pancreatic cancer care, and there is a continued effort to improve its safety and efficacy. Liposomes are widely used to improve chemotherapy safety, and may accurately deliver high-Z element- radiocatalytic nanomaterials to cancer tissues. In this study, the interaction between X-rays and long-circulating nanoliposome formulations loaded with gold nanoclusters is explored in the context of oxaliplatin chemotherapy for desmoplastic pancreatic cancer.

Objectives: The management of the facial nerve (FN) is a major issue in parotid cancer, especially when there is no preoperative facial palsy and FN invasion is discovered intraoperatively. The aim of this study was to assess the impact of FN resection in patients with parotid cancer abutting the FN, without pretreatment facial palsy, using a propensity score matching.
Materials And Methods: Data from all patients treated between 2009 and 2020 for a primary parotid cancer abutting or invading the FN but without pretreatment facial palsy were extracted from the national multicentric REFCOR database.

Background: Ultraportable automated external defibrillators (AEDs) are a new generation of defibrillators that are small, lightweight, easy to carry on one's person, and affordable for personal and home use. They offer the opportunity to increase AED availability in case of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) and therefore improve outcomes. We aimed to review evidence supporting the potential effect on outcomes and the performance of these ultraportable AEDs.

Aim: To review and summarize existing literature and knowledge gaps regarding interventions that have been tested to optimize dispatcher-assisted CPR (DA-CPR) instruction protocols for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA).
Methods: This scoping review was undertaken by an International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) Basic Life Support scoping review team and guided by the ILCOR methodological framework and the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for scoping reviews (PRISMA-ScR). Studies were eligible for inclusion if they were published in peer-reviewed journals and evaluated interventions used to improve DA-CPR.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of intensive care units (ICUs) and their organization in healthcare systems. However, ICU capacity and availability are ongoing concerns beyond the pandemic, particularly due to an aging population and increasing complexity of care. This study aimed to assess the current and future shortage of ICU physicians in France, ten years after a previous evaluation.

Background: Vaccine-induced immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia (VITT) is a complication of adenoviral-based vaccine against SARS-CoV-2 due to prothrombotic immunoglobulin (Ig) G antibodies to platelet factor 4 (PF4) and may be difficult to distinguish from heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) in patients treated with heparin.
Objectives: We assessed the usefulness of competitive anti-PF4 enzyme immunoassays (EIAs) in this context.
Methods: The ability of F(ab')2 fragments of 1E12, 1C12, and 2E1, 3 monoclonal anti-PF4 antibodies, to inhibit the binding of human VITT or HIT antibodies to PF4 was evaluated using EIAs.

Background: Mountainous areas pose a challenge for the out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) chain of survival. Survival rates for OHCAs in mountainous areas may differ depending on the location. Increased survival has been observed compared to standard location when OHCA occurred on ski slopes.

Objective: In many countries, the first line response to an emergency call is decided by the emergency dispatch center EMS clinician. Our main objective was to compare the pre-hospital response to calls received from cancer and non-cancer patients. We also compared the reasons for calling, for each group.

A 64-year-old patient required emergency surgery with high risk of intubation failure, without any possibility to perform neither a direct transtracheal access nor VV-ECMO canulation. The patient was managed thanks to a VA-ECMO despite the absence of cardiac function impairment. This report describes perioperative challenges and management of this unconventional case with favorable outcome.
