3D modeling to predict vascular involvement in resectable pancreatic adenocarcinoma.

Background: Current management of patients with borderline resectable pancreatic adenocarcinoma (BR-PDAC) depends on the degree of involvement of the major arterial and venous structures. The aim of this study was to evaluate 3D segmentation and printing to predict tumor size and vascular involvement of BR-PDAC to improve pre-operative planning of vascular resection and better select patients for neoadjuvant therapy.

Methods: We retrospectively evaluated 16 patients with BR-PDAC near vascular structures who underwent pancreatoduodenectomy (PD) with or without vascular resection between 2015 and 2021.

Epidemiologic trends of cleft lip and/or palate in Switzerland.

Background: Epidemiologic data on the number of cleft lip and/or palate (orofacial cleft (OFC)) births in Switzerland are currently sparse. However, this knowledge is essential for better understanding the etiologies underlying the various cleft phenotypes and providing expectant parents with the best possible healthcare planning and counseling.

Methods: This is the first descriptive study to report data on the prevalence of the various cleft types, their sex, and regional distributions in Switzerland.

E-liquid flavors and nicotine concentration choices over 6 months after a smoking cessation attempt with ENDS: Secondary analyses of a randomized controlled trial.

Introduction: Many tobacco smokers try to quit with electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS or e-cigarettes). We aimed to describe e-liquid flavors and nicotine concentration use over 6 months in a prospective cohort of smokers willing to quit with ENDS.

Methods: We included 622 participants from the intervention group of the Efficacy, Safety and Toxicology of ENDS randomized controlled trial.

Cardiomeds, an mHealth App for Self-Management to Support Swiss Patients With Heart Failure: 2-Stage Mixed Methods Usability Study.

Background: Mobile health apps have shown promising results in improving self-management of several chronic diseases in patients. We have developed a mobile health app (Cardiomeds) dedicated to patients with heart failure (HF). This app includes an interactive medication list; daily self-monitoring of symptoms, weight, blood pressure, and heart rate; and educational information on HF delivered through various formats.

Reduced Lower Body Muscular Strength and Endurance among Adult Survivors of Childhood Cancer.

Introduction: Impaired physical fitness is a possible late effect among adult survivors of childhood cancer (ASCC). Our study describes lower body muscular strength and endurance among ASCC using the 1-minute sit-to-stand (1-min STS) test, compares them with the general population, identifies risk factors, and describes changes over time.Methods: In a prospective multicenter cohort study, we invited ASCC ≥18 years of age at study, diagnosed between ages 0-20 treated in five pediatric oncology centers across Switzerland from 1976-2017 who survived ≥5 years for a 1-min STS test.

Preclinical model for evaluating human TCRs against chimeric syngeneic tumors.

Background: The adoptive cell transfer (ACT) of T cell receptor (TCR)-engineered T cells targeting the HLA-A2-restricted epitope NY-ESO-1 (A2/NY) has yielded important clinical responses against several cancers. A variety of approaches are being taken to augment tumor control by ACT including TCR affinity-optimization and T-cell coengineering strategies to address the suppressive tumor microenvironment (TME). Most TCRs of clinical interest are evaluated in immunocompromised mice to enable human T-cell engraftment and do not recapitulate the dynamic interplay that occurs with endogenous immunity in a treated patient.

Myoclonus After Cardiac Arrest: Need for Standardization-A Systematic Review and Research Proposal on Terminology.

Objectives: Although myoclonus less than or equal to 72 hours after cardiac arrest (CA) is often viewed as a single entity, there is considerable heterogeneity in its clinical and electrophysiology characteristics, and its strength of association with outcome. We reviewed definitions, electroencephalogram, and outcome of myoclonus post-CA to assess the need for consensus and the potential role of electroencephalogram for further research.

Objectives: Phosphorus-31 magnetic resonance spectroscopic imaging (P-MRSI) is a non-invasive tool for assessing cellular high-energy metabolism in-vivo. However, its acquisition suffers from a low sensitivity, which necessitates large voxel sizes or multiple averages to achieve an acceptable signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), resulting in long scan times.

Deceased-donor kidney allografts are exposed to ischemic injury during ex vivo transport due to the lack of blood oxygen supply. Hypothermic machine perfusion (HMP) effectively reduces the risk of delayed graft function in kidney transplant recipients compared to standard cold storage. However, no free software implementation is available to analyze HMP data for state-of-the-art visualization and quality control.
