We conducted a multicenter and retrospective study to describe the use of botulinum toxin type A (BoNT-A) to treat post-stroke spasticity (PSS). Data were extracted from free-text in electronic health records (EHRs) in five Spanish hospitals. We included adults diagnosed with PSS between January 2015 and December 2019, stratified into BoNT-A-treated and untreated groups.

We report a 47-year-old woman diagnosed with a BAPoma (melanocytic tumor characterized by the loss of BAP-1). Due to her extensive family history with multiple neoplasms, a FDG PET-CT was performed.

Background: Tezepelumab is a monoclonal antibody targeting thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP), implicated in asthma pathogenesis, and that has been approved for patients with severe uncontrolled asthma in Spain in October 2023. This study evaluates our experience with Tezepelumab for those patients who received the indicated drug off-label prior to its commercialization.
Methods: We conducted a real-life observational study on three patients from the Severe Asthma Unit of the Hospital Universitario de Fuenlabrada, Spain, who received Tezepelumab off-label before its official approval.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic autoimmune disease that affects the central nervous system. Gait abnormalities, such as altered joint kinematics, are common in people with MS (pwMS). Traditional clinical gait assessments may not detect subtle kinematic alterations, but advances in motion capture technology and analysis methods, such as statistical parametric mapping (SPM), offer more detailed assessments.

Importance: Peritoneal metastasis in patients with locally advanced colon cancer (T4 stage) is estimated to recur at a rate of approximately 25% at 3 years from surgical resection and is associated with poor prognosis. There is controversy regarding the clinical benefit of prophylactic hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) in these patients.
Objective: To assess the efficacy and safety of intraoperative HIPEC in patients with locally advanced colon cancer.

Bacterial resistance to antibiotics has been rapidly increasing, resulting in low antibiotic effectiveness even treating common infections. The presence of resistant pathogens in environments such as a hospital Intensive Care Unit (ICU) exacerbates the critical admission-acquired infections. This work focuses on the prediction of antibiotic resistance in Pseudomonas aeruginosa nosocomial infections at the ICU, using Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) artificial neural networks as the predictive method.

The addition to chemotherapy of anti-HER2 drugs such as trastuzumab or pertuzumab has improved outcomes in HER2-positive breast cancer patients. However, resistance to these drugs in some patients remains a major concern. This study examines the possible association between the response to neoadjuvant anti-HER2 treatment in breast cancer patients and the presence of 28 SNPs in 17 genes involved in different cell processes (, , , , , , , , , , chr6 intergenic region, , , , , , and ).

Background: Obstetric and perinatal outcomes depend not only on care during pregnancy, as there is an increasing evidence of their relationship with preexisting conditions. Woman's age and time to pregnancy (TTP) have been related to the prognosis in reproductive success, but TTP could influence fetal well-being and newborn. According to the World Health Organization, 48 million couples have subfertility globally.

Background: Nowadays, patients with chronic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension have reached alarming numbers worldwide. These diseases increase the risk of developing acute complications and involve a substantial economic burden and demand for health resources. The widespread adoption of Electronic Health Records (EHRs) is opening great opportunities for supporting decision-making.

Background: Sickle cell disease (SCD) is an inherited hemoglobinopathy characterized by the presence of hemoglobin S in red blood cells. This polymerizes, distorting the red blood cells, which occlude the microcirculation and have a shorter halflife, giving rise to a chronic hemolytic anemia. This anemia is worsened by parvovirus B19, as it compromises the erythroid precursor, causing a decrease in erythrocyte production.

(2) Methods: Multicenter, randomized, double-blind, phase III clinical trial comparing the postoperative diet with 200 mL oligomeric hyperproteic normocaloric (OHN; experimental arm) supplement vs. 200 mL immunonutritional (IN) (active comparator) supplement twice a day for five days in 151 normo-nourished adult colorectal-resection patients following the multimodal rehabilitation ERAS protocol.

Purpose: One anastomosis/mini gastric bypass (OAGB/MGB) is up to date the third most performed obesity and metabolic procedure worldwide, which recently has been endorsed by ASMBS. The main criticisms are the risk of bile reflux, esophageal cancer, and malnutrition. Although IFSO has recognized this procedure, guidance is needed regarding selection criteria.

The external popliteal sciatic nerve (EPSN) is the nerve of the lower extremity most frequently affected by compressive etiology. Its superficial and sinuous anatomical course is closely related to other rigid anatomical structures and has an important dynamic neural component. Therefore, this circumstance means that this nerve is exposed to multiple causes of compressive etiology.

Background: The limited knowledge about the PTEN hamartoma tumor syndrome (PHTS) makes its diagnosis a challenging task. We aimed to define the clinical and genetic characteristics of this syndrome in the Spanish population and to identify new genes potentially associated with the disease.
Results: We reviewed the clinical data collected through a specific questionnaire in a series of 145 Spanish patients with a phenotypic features compatible with PHTS and performed molecular characterization through several approaches including next generation sequencing and whole exome sequencing (WES).

HER2-positive breast cancer (BC) is an aggressive subtype that affects 20-25% of BC patients. For these patients, neoadjuvant therapy is a good option that targets a pathological complete response (pCR) and more breast-conserving surgery. In effect, the outcomes of patients with HER2-positive BC have dramatically improved since the introduction of anti-HER2 antibodies such as trastuzumab (TZ) and/or pertuzumab (PZ) added to chemotherapy.

Electronic health records (EHRs) are a valuable data source that, in conjunction with deep learning (DL) methods, have provided important outcomes in different domains, contributing to supporting decision-making. Owing to the remarkable advancements achieved by DL-based models, autoencoders (AE) are becoming extensively used in health care. Nevertheless, AE-based models are based on nonlinear transformations, resulting in black-box models leading to a lack of interpretability, which is vital in the clinical setting.
