The study aimed to differentiate histopathological features of osteoradionecrosis (ORN) and bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaws (BRONJ), both clinically resembling exposed necrotic bone.
ten samples of ORN, BRONJ, and normal mandibular bone were analyzed using bone-specific stains to assess collagen and osteon density differences.
Results showed significant differences in collagen patterns and lower osteon density in BRONJ samples, indicating distinct underlying pathophysiological mechanisms for each condition.
