Alterations in triglyceride rich lipoproteins are related to endothelial dysfunction in metabolic syndrome.

Clin Biochem

August 2016

Laboratory of Lipids and Atherosclerosis, Department of Clinical Biochemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy and Biochemistry, INFIBIOC, University of Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Unlabelled: Our aim was to analyze the effect of circulating triglyceride rich lipoprotein (TRL) on endothelial function in metabolic syndrome (MetS).

Methods: We studied 40 patients with MetS (ATPIII), divided into those presenting normal endothelial function (n=19) and those with endothelial dysfunction (n=21) by means of the evaluation of pulse wave velocity, before and after brachial artery ischemia. In fasting serum we measured lipid and lipoprotein profile, insulin and glucose (HOMA-IR).

High-grade cervical neoplasia during pregnancy: diagnosis, management and postpartum findings.

Acta Obstet Gynecol Scand

March 2013

Lower Genital Tract Clinic, Obstetrics Division, Department of Gynecology, Hospital de Clínicas José de San Martín, University Hospital of Buenos Aires, Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Objectives: To study the prevalence of high-grade cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN 2-3) during pregnancy and compare the rates of persistence, progression and regression of CIN 2-3 by colposcopically guided biopsy during pregnancy with respect to the postpartum period. Also to assess biopsy results during pregnancy and postpartum in relation to histopathology after treatment of lesions.

Population: Pregnant women with a histological diagnosis of CIN 2-3 confirmed by colposcopically guided biopsy during pregnancy.

Mitochondrial nitric oxide in the signaling of cell integrated responses.

Am J Physiol Cell Physiol

May 2007

Laboratory of Oxygen Metabolism, University Hospital of Buenos Aires, Cordoba 2351, 1120 Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Mitochondria are the specialized organelles for energy metabolism, but, as a typical example of system biology, they also activate a multiplicity of pathways that modulate cell proliferation and mitochondrial biogenesis or oppositely promote cell arrest and programmed cell death by a limited number of oxidative or nitrosative reactions. These reactions are influenced by matrix nitric oxide (NO) steady-state concentration, either from local production or by gas diffusion to mitochondria from the canonical sources. Likewise, in a range of approximately 30-200 nM, NO turns mitochondrial O(2) utilization down by binding to cytochrome oxidase and elicits a burst of superoxide anion and hydrogen peroxide that diffuses outside mitochondria.

Objectives: To evaluate the diagnostic value of the Pap smear in lower genital tract infections during pregnancy.

Materials And Methods: A total of 190 pregnant women were examined in the Lower Genital Tract and Colposcopy clinics of the Obstetrics Division at the University Hospital de Clínicas "José de San Martín" of University of Buenos Aires from April to August 1997. Samples were taken from the vaginal fornix for microbiologic study and from the exocervix for Pap smear.
