Background: Even though coronary artery disease (CAD) is considered an independent risk factor of an unfavorable outcome of SARS-CoV-2-infection, the clinical course of COVID-19 in subjects with CAD is heterogeneous, ranging from clinically asymptomatic to fatal cases. Since the individual CHEST components are similar to the COVID-19 risk factors, we evaluated its predictive value in CAD subjects.
Materials And Methods: In total, 2183 patients hospitalized due to confirmed COVID-19 were enrolled onto this study consecutively.

Deviations in laboratory tests assessing liver function in patients with COVID-19 are frequently observed. Their importance and pathogenesis are still debated. In our retrospective study, we analyzed liver-related parameters: aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), gamma-glutamyltransferase (GGT), total bilirubin (TBIL), albumin, comorbidities and other selected potential risk factors in patients admitted with SARS-CoV-2 infection to assess their prognostic value for intensive care unit admission, mechanical ventilation necessity and mortality.

Previous studies have suggested that the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is a novel yet readily evaluable inflammatory biomarker that may be useful for determining cardiovascular prognosis during acute episodes. The study investigated the role of NLR in predicting cardiovascular (CV) outcomes in patients with acute heart failure (HF). Individual patient data from the BLAST-AHF (phase 2b study of the biased ligand of the angiotensin 2 type 1 receptor, TRV027), Pre-RELAX-AHF (phase 2b study of recombinant human relaxin-2, serelaxin), and RELAX-AHF (phase 3 study of serelaxin) randomized, placebo-controlled studies for patients with acute HF were pooled for analysis.

Multiple myeloma (MM) relapses are inevitable in the majority of patients, and in addition to genetic changes in the MM clone, the immune profile of the bone marrow (BM) plays a key role in this process. Biochemical progression or relapse (BR) precedes clinical relapse in a significant proportion of patients with MM. In the present study, we used flow cytometry to assess the cellular composition of the BM microenvironment in MM patients with confirmed BR.

Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, a growing number of evidence suggests that COVID-19 presents sex-dependent differences in clinical course and outcomes. Nevertheless, there is still an unmet need to stratify the risk for poor outcome at the beginning of hospitalization. Since individual CHEST components are similar COVID-19 mortality risk factors, we evaluated sex-related predictive value of the score.

Novel pharmacologic treatment options reduce mortality and morbidity in a cost-effective manner in patients with heart failure (HF). Undisputedly, the effective implementation of these agents is an essential element of good clinical practice, which is endorsed by the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) guidelines on acute and chronic HF. Yet, physicians struggle to implement these therapies as they have to balance the true and/or perceived risks versus their substantial benefits in clinical practice.

Unlabelled: Senility has been identified among the strongest risk predictors for unfavorable COVID-19-outcome. However, even in the elderly population, the clinical course of infection in individual patients remains unpredictable. Hence, there is an urgent need for developing a simple tool predicting adverse COVID-19-outcomes.

Background: Diabetes mellitus is among the most frequent comorbidities worsening COVID-19 outcome. Nevertheless, there are no data regarding the optimal risk stratification of patients with diabetes and COVID-19. Since individual CHEST components reflect the comorbidities, we assumed that the score could predict COVID-19 outcomes.

Vaccination against SARS-CoV-2 is currently the best tool in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. However, there are limited data on its efficacy and safety after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HCT). We present the results of a prospective analysis of the humoral response to two doses of BNT162b2 mRNA vaccine in 93 adult patients, including 29 after autologous HCT (autoHCT) and 64 after allogeneic HCT (alloHCT).

Aims: Elevated concentrations of growth differentiation factor 15 (GDF-15) in patients with heart failure (HF) have been consistently associated with worse clinical outcomes, but what disease mechanisms high GDF-15 concentrations represent remains unclear. Here, we aim to identify activated pathophysiological pathways related to elevated GDF-15 expression in patients with HF.
Methods And Results: In 2279 patients with HF, we measured circulating levels of 363 biomarkers.

We aimed to investigate whether psychological intervention (single mental simulation) among women after cesarean surgery (CC) can affect their willingness to verticalize, actual verticalization, and the duration of the first mobilization. In this prospective randomised, controlled study, 150 women after CC were divided into 3 groups: experimental group with process-simulation with elements of relaxation, experimental group with outcome-simulation with elements of relaxation and control group with elements of relaxation only. After a 5-h stay in the post-operative room, women listened to a recording with a stimulation.

Background: Infection with SARS-CoV-2 during pregnancy can lead to a severe condition in the patient, which is challenging for obstetricians and anaesthesiologists. Upon severe COVID-19 and a lack of improvement after multidrug therapy and mechanical ventilation, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is introduced as the last option. Such treatment is critical in women with very preterm pregnancy when each additional day of the intrauterine stay is vital for the survival of the newborn.

Minimal residual disease (MRD) status is now considered as one of the most relevant prognostic factors in multiple myeloma (MM) while MRD negativity became an important endpoint in clinical trials. Here, we report the results of the first study evaluating the reproducibility of high-sensitivity flow cytometry MM MRD assessment in four laboratories in Poland. EuroFlow protocols for instrument setting standardization and sample preparation in MM MRD assessment were implemented in each laboratory.
