Objective: The aim of this study was to document the prevalence of degenerative intervertebral disc changes in the patients who previously reported symptoms of neck pain and to determine the influence of education level on degenerative intervertebral disc changes and subsequent chronic neck pain.

Methods: One hundred and twelve patients were randomly selected from the University Hospital in Mostar, Bosna and Herzegovina, (aged 48.5±12.

Decreased expression of MMP-9 in CD8 cells in placenta with severe preeclampsia.

Biotech Histochem

November 2017

c Laboratory of Morphology, Department of Histology and Embryology , School of Medicine, University of Mostar, Mostar , Bosnia and Herzegovina.

We compared the number of CD4-positive (CD4) and CD8-positive (CD8) cells in severe and non-severe preeclampsia (PE), and in normal pregnancy. We also evaluated the expression of matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP-9) in CD4 and CD8 cells. Immunohistochemistry for CD4 and CD8 was performed on the decidua basalis of 15 severe and 13 non-severe PE women and compared to decidual tissue of 19 normal pregnancies (control group).

Expression pattern of RAGE and IGF-1 in the human fetal ovary and ovarian serous carcinoma.

Acta Histochem

March 2016

Laboratory for Early Human Development, Department of Anatomy, Histology and Embryology, School of Medicine, University of Split, Soltanska 2, 21000 Split, Croatia. Electronic address:

The expression pattern of RAGE and IGF-1 proteins in different ovarian cell lineages was histologically analyzed in six fetal, nine adult human ovaries, and nine serous ovarian carcinomas (OSC) using immunohistochemical methods. Mild expression of IGF-1 in ovarian surface epithelium (Ose) and oocytes in the 15-week human ovaries increased to moderate or strong in the stromal cells, oocytes and follicular cells in week 22. Occasional mild RAGE expression was observed in Ose during week 15, while strong expression characterized primordial follicles in week 22.

Proliferation, apoptosis and expression of matrix metalloproteinase-9 in human fetal lung.

Acta Histochem

March 2016

Department of Pathology, Cytology and Forensic Medicine, University Hospital in Mostar, Tvrtka bb, 88000 Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina; Laboratory of Morphology, Department of Histology and Embryology, School of Medicine, University of Mostar, Bijelibrijeg bb, 88000 Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Electronic address:

Expression pattern of the Ki-67, caspase-3 and matrix metalloproteinases-9 (MMP-9) factors were immunohistochemically analyzed in 48 human fetal lungs from 12 to 40 weeks of gestation. The number of Ki-67 positive cells in the epithelium of canaliculare (88cells/mm(2)) and sacculare stage (93cells/mm(2)) were significantly higher than in the epithelium of pseudoglandular stage (12cells/mm(2)) (p=0.0008 vs.

Co-expression of TTF-1 and neuroendocrine markers in the human fetal lung and pulmonary neuroendocrine tumors.

Acta Histochem

March 2016

Department of Pathology, Cytology and Forensic Medicine, University Hospital in Mostar, Kralja Tvrtka bb, 88000 Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina; Department of Histology and Embryology, School of Medicine, University of Mostar, Bijeli brijeg bb, 88000 Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Electronic address:

The expression pattern of thyroid transcription factor 1 (TTF-1) and neuroendocrine markers, neuron cell adhesion molecule (NCAM; CD56), chromogranin A (CgA) and synaptophysin (Syp), of different lung cell lineages was histologically analyzed in 15 normal human fetal lungs and 12 neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) using immunohistochemical methods. During pseudoglandular phase strong nuclear TTF-1 staining was detected in the columnar nonciliated epithelial cells, while NCAM, CgA and Syp had a moderate expression in the proximal airways and mild expression in the distal airways. Neuroendocrine cells (NECs) in proximal lung airway were co-localizing TTF-1 and other neuroendocrine markers while neuroendocrine bodies (NEBs) exhibit only staining with NCAM and Syp.
