Extracorporeal photopheresis (ECP) is effective as a long-term treatment for steroid-refractory chronic graft-versus-host disease (cGVHD), particularly for skin and mucosal symptoms.
An analysis of 14 patients showed significant reductions in skin lesion severity and improvement in mucosal symptoms over time, with many patients reducing or stopping their immunosuppressant medications.
ECP was well tolerated with no major side effects reported, highlighting its potential as a beneficial therapy for managing cGVHD.
