Background/objectives: Renal transplantation is the treatment of choice for patients with end-stage renal disease. In the last decade, the number of older renal transplant recipients has significantly increased. However, these patients are at a higher risk of developing post-transplant complications.

Clinical impact of genomic analysis in children with B-acute lymphoblastic leukemia: A pilot study in Slovakia.

Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) belongs to a genetically heterogeneous disease associated with a wide range of chromosomal and molecular changes. Determining these changes at the time of diagnosis can help the therapeutic decision, and contributes to the prediction of patients' clinical outcomes. A part of B-ALL (B-other) lacks cytogenetic abnormalities with clinical relevance for prognosis.

Lenalidomide and dexamethasone in treatment of patients with relapsed and refractory multiple myeloma - analysis of data from the Czech Myeloma Group Registry of Monoclonal Gammopathies.

Lenalidomide (LEN) is an immunomodulator with clinical activity against myeloma cells. Based on the pivotal phase 3 trials MM-009 and MM010, the combination of lenalidomide and dexamethasone(DEX) was approved for patients with multiple myeloma who received at least one prior therapy. Here, we evaluated LEN/DEX therapy in unselected population and subsequently in selected sub-groups of patients with relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma followed in the Registry of Monoclonal Gammopathies of the Czech Myeloma Group.

Impact of drugs on venous thromboembolism risk in surgical patients.

Purpose: This review focuses on the most common drugs administered to surgical patients during the perioperative period that affect the risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE).

Results: Among analgesics, the risk of VTE is increased in patients treated with diclofenac, ibuprofen, and rofecoxib, but not naproxen, while metamizole can confer a protective effect. The relationship between sedatives and VTE has not been sufficiently studied.
