Technological Adjuncts to Streamline Patient Recruitment, Informed Consent, and Data Management Processes in Clinical Research: Observational Study.

Background: Patient recruitment and data management are laborious, resource-intensive aspects of clinical research that often dictate whether the successful completion of studies is possible. Technological advances present opportunities for streamlining these processes, thus improving completion rates for clinical research studies.

Objective: This paper aims to demonstrate how technological adjuncts can enhance clinical research processes via automation and digital integration.

Nurses and allied professionals' engagement in clinical research-in-practice: a statement of the Association of Cardiovascular Nursing & Allied Professions of the European Society of Cardiology.

Many nurses and allied professionals (NAPs) lack the skills, knowledge and confidence to engage in conducting and implementing research. This statement describes the importance of NAPs' involvement in clinical research within the context of cardiovascular care. The existing gaps, barriers and enablers to NAPs involvement in research as a potential response to workforce issues in these professions as well as to contribute to excellence in patient care delivery and associated outcomes are identified.

Hidradenitis Suppurativa Surgery Complication Rates Among Patients With Obesity or Diabetes or Who Smoke: A Review.

Importance: Surgery is frequently required for hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) treatment, but the impact of common comorbidities such as obesity, diabetes, and smoking on outcomes has been sparsely studied.

Observations: A total of 12 studies met final inclusion criteria for investigating complication rates associated with at least 1 comorbidity. Complication rates were associated with obesity in 3 of 10 studies.

Treatment Strategies to Control Blood Pressure in People With Hypertension in Tanzania and Lesotho: A Randomized Clinical Trial.

Importance: Hypertension is the primary cardiovascular risk factor in Africa. Recently revised World Health Organization guidelines recommend starting antihypertensive dual therapy; clinical efficacy and tolerability of low-dose triple combination remain unclear.

Objectives: To compare the effect of 3 treatment strategies on blood pressure control among persons with untreated hypertension in Africa.

Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Pediatric Counseling on Nutrition, Lifestyle, and Weight: A Secondary Analysis of the BP-CATCH Randomized Clinical Trial.

Importance: Pediatric obesity and hypertension are highly correlated. To mitigate both conditions, provision of counseling on nutrition, lifestyle, and weight to children with high blood pressure (BP) measurements is recommended.

Objective: To examine racial and ethnic disparities in receipt of nutrition, lifestyle, and weight counseling among patients with high BP at pediatric primary care visits stratified by patients' weight status.

Health Care Resource Use and Costs After Hospitalization With Multiple Organ Dysfunction in Children.

Importance: Multiple organ dysfunction (MOD) is a leading cause of in-hospital child mortality. For survivors, posthospitalization health care resource use and costs are unknown.

Objective: To evaluate longitudinal health care resource use and costs after hospitalization with MOD in infants (aged <1 year) and children (aged 1-18 years).

Mental Health Disparities by Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity in the All of Us Research Program.

Importance: Limited research explores mental health disparities between individuals in sexual and gender minority (SGM) populations and cisgender heterosexual (non-SGM) populations using national-level data.

Objective: To explore mental health disparities between SGM and non-SGM populations across sexual orientation, sex assigned at birth, and gender identity within the All of Us Research Program.

Design, Setting, And Participants: This cross-sectional study used survey data and linked electronic health records of eligible All of Us Research Program participants from May 31, 2017, to June 30, 2022.

Imiquimod Cream Preceded by Superficial Curettage vs Surgical Excision for Nodular Basal Cell Carcinoma: A Secondary Analysis of a Randomized Clinical Trial.

Background: Interest in noninvasive treatment of basal cell carcinoma (BCC) has been increasing. For superficial BCC, it has been demonstrated that imiquimod cream, 5%, has high long-term efficacy, but for nodular BCC (nBCC), long-term evidence is sparse.

Objectives: To evaluate whether superficial curettage (SC) followed by imiquimod cream, 5%, is noninferior to surgical excision (SE) in nBCC after 5 years of treatment.

Benzodiazepine-Free Cardiac Anesthesia for Reduction of Postoperative Delirium: A Cluster Randomized Crossover Trial.

Importance: Delirium is common after cardiac surgery and associated with adverse outcomes. Intraoperative benzodiazepines may increase postoperative delirium but restricting intraoperative benzodiazepines has not yet been evaluated in a randomized trial.

Objective: To determine whether an institutional policy of restricted intraoperative benzodiazepine administration reduced the incidence of postoperative delirium.

Serum Immunoglobulin G Levels and Nicastrin Variation in Hidradenitis Suppurativa.

Importance: Variation in nicastrin (NCSTN) is associated with a monogenic subtype of hidradenitis suppurativa. Dysregulation of humoral immunity has been suggested as a potential mechanistic link between NCSTN variation and hidradenitis suppurativa. There is a paucity of biomarkers that can predict disease-associated variation.

A comparative analysis of risk stratification tools in systemic sclerosis-associated pulmonary arterial hypertension: a EUSTAR analysis.

Objectives: The 2022 European Society of Cardiology and European Respiratory Society (ESC/ERS) Guidelines for pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) recommend risk stratification to optimize management. However, the performance of generic PAH risk stratification tools in patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc)-associated PAH remains unclear. Our objective was to identify the most accurate approach for risk stratification at SSc-PAH diagnosis.

Performance of spondyloarthritis-specific health utilities based on ASAS Health Index: an ancillary analysis from ASAS-HI validation study.

Objectives: To compare the utility values of Spondyloarthritis (SpA)-specific ASAS Health Index (U-ASAS-HI) to generic utilities and to understand the contribution of health outcomes, personal- and country-level factors to the U-ASAS-HI.

Methods: Ancillary analysis of the ASAS-HI international validation study. SpA patients who completed the ASAS-HI, 5-level EuroQol-5D (EQ-5D-5L) and Short Form-36 (SF-36) questionnaires were selected, and utilities calculated.

Foot peripheral sensory neuropathy: a frequent disabling manifestation in systemic sclerosis.

Objectives: Peripheral Sensory Neuropathy (PSN) is an under-recognized feature in systemic sclerosis (SSc). Moreover, SSc foot involvement is frequent but poorly investigated. We aimed to provide a detailed characterization of foot PSN in a large cohort of SSc patients, describing its associations with disease-specific features, physical disability, and Quality of Life (QoL).

A method to quantitate the stabilization of Mitochondria-Associated endoplasmic reticulum Membranes (MAMs) in a 3-dimensional (3D) neural model of Alzheimer's disease (AD) is presented here. To begin, fresh human neuro progenitor ReN cells expressing β-amyloid precursor protein (APP) containing familial Alzheimer's disease (FAD) or naïve ReN cells are grown in thin (1:100) Matrigel-coated tissue culture plates. After the cells reach confluency, these are electroporated with expression plasmids encoding red fluorescence protein (RFP)-conjugated mitochondria-binding sequence of AKAP1(34-63) (Mito-RFP) that detects mitochondria or constitutive MAM stabilizers MAM 1X or MAM 9X that stabilize tight (6 nm ± 1 nm gap width) or loose (24 nm ± 3 nm gap width) MAMs, respectively.

Both DNA replication and RNA transcription utilize genomic DNA as their template, necessitating spatial and temporal separation of these processes. Conflicts between the replication and transcription machinery, termed transcription-replication conflicts (TRCs), pose a considerable risk to genome stability, a critical factor in cancer development. While several factors regulating these collisions have been identified, pinpointing primary causes remains difficult due to limited tools for direct visualization and clear interpretation.

Umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stromal/stem cells (UC-MSCs) present low immunogenicity and potent immunomodulatory effects for treating various diseases. Human UC-MSCs are a heterogeneous population consisting of three main subpopulations with different cell shapes, proliferation rates, differentiation abilities, and immune regulatory functions. Previously, BAMBIMFGE8 UC-MSCs, the first subgroup successfully isolated from UC-MSCs were found to fail to alleviate lupus nephritis.

A Mechanical Construction to Enhance the Stability and Safety of Lifting and Thrusting Manipulation of Acupuncture.

The therapeutic effectiveness of acupuncture relies on both safety and stability, making these factors essential in acupuncture manipulation research. However, manual manipulation introduces unavoidable inaccuracies, which can impact the reliability of research findings. To address this challenge, a unique lifting and thrusting manipulation control cannula was designed in this study, offering flexible adjustment of movement amplitude.

Herbal Munziq Ameliorates Myocardial Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury by Inhibiting Inflammation.

The objective of this study was to investigate the cardioprotective effects of Munziq on abnormal body fluid myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury (MIRI) and its underlying mechanism.Normal rats and rats with abnormal body fluid (ABF) were pre-treated with Munziq for 21 days. S100A8 regulates postoperative responses following tooth extraction in rats.

The reduction in alveolar ridge height and width after tooth extraction poses a substantial challenge for dental implant restoration. This study aimed to observe the roles of S100A8 in the inflammatory response and bone resorption following tooth extraction. Rat mandibular second molars were extracted.

Post COVID-19 infection and quality of life of healthcare workers at Sahloul University Hospital of Sousse in Tunisia.

Background: Since the COVID-19 pandemic, health care workers (HCWs) faced an enormous physical and mental burden, sometimes altering their quality of life due mainly to persistent challenges stemming from their frontline position.

Aims: Todetermine the prevalence of post-COVID-19 syndrome, and its impact on the Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL) among HCWs.

Methods: This is an exhaustive cross-sectional study with analytical scope, conducted among all HCWs of the University Hospital Sahloul of Sousse, Tunisia, who have contracted COVID-19 between September 2020 and 30 March 2021 (N=529 cases).
