Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Anal canal (SCCA) is a rare disease associated with a Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infection in most cases, predominantly the HPV16 genotype. About 15% of SCCA are diagnosed in metastatic stage and some will relapse after initial chemoradiotherapy (CRT). Treatment of patients by Docetaxel, Cisplatin and 5-fluorouracil (DCF) has been recently shown to improve their complete remission and progression-free survival.

First case report of tDCS efficacy in severe chemsex addiction
.

Dialogues Clin Neurosci

September 2020

University Hospital Cochin (site Tarnier), Paris, France; Faculty of Medicine Paris Descartes (University of Paris); INSERM U1266, Institute of Psychiatry and Neurosciences, Paris, France.

Chemsex is an escalating public health issue among men who have sex with men, with potentially severe somatic and psychiatric consequences. Given the limited knowledge and lack of treatment recommendations available in this area, we proposed the use of noninvasive brain stimulation in order to reduce problematic chemsex behavior. This is the first open-label case report of a positive effect of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) in a patient who was complaining of severe chemsex addiction.

Background: The incidence of Chlamydia trachomatis (Ct) urethritis has been increasing for the past 10 years. There is little data regarding the screening of Ct infection in asymptomatic men in France, despite the national recommendation to screen at-risk asymptomatic men under 30 attending Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) clinics. Recent data from the French surveillance network Rénachla show indeed that systematic screening is still focused on women.

Multiple cytogenetic subgroups have been described in adult Philadelphia chromosome (Ph)-negative B-cell precursor (BCP) acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), often comprising small numbers of patients. In this study, we aimed to reassess the prognostic value of cytogenetic abnormalities in a large series of 617 adult patients with Ph-negative BCP-ALL (median age, 38 years), treated in the intensified Group for Research on Adult Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (GRAALL)-2003/2005 trials. Combined data from karyotype, DNA index, fluorescence in situ hybridization, and polymerase chain reaction screening for relevant abnormalities were centrally reviewed and were informative in 542 cases (88%), allowing classification in 10 exclusive primary cytogenetic subgroups and in secondary subgroups, including complex and monosomal karyotypes.

Critical care ultrasonography in acute respiratory failure.

Crit Care

August 2016

Medical Intensive Care Unit, University Hospital Saint-Antoine, Assistance Publique-Hôpitaux de Paris, Paris, France.

Acute respiratory failure (ARF) is a leading indication for performing critical care ultrasonography (CCUS) which, in these patients, combines critical care echocardiography (CCE) and chest ultrasonography. CCE is ideally suited to guide the diagnostic work-up in patients presenting with ARF since it allows the assessment of left ventricular filling pressure and pulmonary artery pressure, and the identification of a potential underlying cardiopathy. In addition, CCE precisely depicts the consequences of pulmonary vascular lesions on right ventricular function and helps in adjusting the ventilator settings in patients sustaining moderate-to-severe acute respiratory distress syndrome.

Purpose: Preoperative radiotherapy is increasingly used for certain rectal cancers, although some evidence suggests that it may adversely affect anorectal function. Reconstruction with a colonic J-pouch-anal anastomosis after complete proctectomy is thought to improve function, but few published data on pouch function after radiation exists. The aim of our study was to compare long-term bowel habits in patients receiving preoperative radiation for rectal cancer followed by colonic J-pouch-anal anastomosis with those of patients having similar rectal cancer surgery without radiation.
