Department of Ophthalmology, University Hospital S. Raffaele, Milano, Italy.

Non-penetrating glaucoma surgery, represented by deep sclerectomy and viscocanalostomy, is an effective method to lower intraocular pressure (IOP) in glaucomatous patients. Both procedures reduce IOP by allowing aqueous humor drainage without opening the anterior chamber. Deep sclerectomy, similar to trabeculectomy, provides aqueous external filtration in the subconjunctival space.

Purpose: To evaluate the prevalence of moderate fasting hyperhomocysteinemia (HHcy) and postmethionine load (PML) HHcy among patients with early-onset central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO).

Methods: The prevalence of fasting HHcy and that of PML HHcy were evaluated in a consecutive series of 58 patients with CRVO who were younger than 56 years of age (mean age, 40.3 years) and in 103 controls (mean age, 39.

Purpose: To evaluate the optical coherence tomography (OCT) findings in patients with solar retinopathy after watching a solar eclipse.

Methods: Complete ocular examinations and OCT were done in 4 patients presenting with acute solar retinopathy soon after observation of an eclipse. All 4 patients repeated the examinations about 1 month and 1 year after the first visit.

Purpose: 1) To compare macular thickness (MT) by optical coherence tomography (OCT) in diabetics and controls; 2) to assess the relationship between MT and stage of diabetic retinopathy (DR) and macular edema (ME); 3) to quantify MT changes after laser treatment for ME.

Methods: One-hundred and thirty-seven patients with diabetes mellitus (216 eyes) were admitted to the study and examined by stereo-color fundus photos, retinal fluorangiography and OCT. DR was classified as: 1) no DR (46 eyes: 21.

Purpose: The purpose of this article is to analyze cross-sectional images of a subretinal macular lesion, using optical coherence tomography (OCT) in eyes with adult-onset foveomacular vitelliform dystrophy (AOFVD), to compare thickness of the neurosensory retina over the lesion with best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) of each eye, and to compare OCT tomograms of AOFVD patients with OCT of Best disease.

Design: Observational case series.

Methods: This is a retrospective study which took place in a clinical practice.

Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences, University Hospital S. Raffaele, Via Olgettina 60, 20132 Milan, Italy.

Purpose: To evaluate efficacy of laser photocoagulation and pars-plana vitrectomy in patients with FDR.

Methods: Eighty-eight patients (155 eyes) with FDR were retrospectively evaluated (mean age 27 +/- 6.0 years; proportion of females 66%; insulin-dependent diabetes 100%; mean duration of diabetes 16.
