Catheter ablation of arrhythmias in some European countries: Toy or tool?

In the last decades, catheter ablation of arrhythmias is rapidly evolving in Europe. Despite the high number of procedures performed, in some European countries, both the organization of the electrophysiology labs and the training of clinical electrophysiologists are still not completely effective and not in line with the standard recommendations of National Electrophysiology Societies. For these reasons, it is probably desirable for arrhythmia sections to become independent units in order to assure high quality and safety standards.

Materials And Methods: We retrospectively considered 123 HRCTs in patients with CTD. Three radiologists, blinded to the original NRs they wrote during clinical routine, re-reported each HRCT using an SR dedicated template.

Solving the preoperative breast MRI conundrum: design and protocol of the MIPA study.

The calcium-to-phosphorous (Ca/P) ratio in the diagnosis of primary hyperparathyroidism and hypoparathyroidism: a multicentric study.

Purpose: The diagnosis of primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) and chronic hypoparathyroidism (HypoPT) is still challenging, especially in patients asymptomatic or with non-classical phenotypes and for physicians not skilled in calcium-phosphorous (Ca-P) disorders. The serum calcium/phosphorous (Ca/P) ratio has been proposed as accurate index to identify PHPT, while it has never been tested in HypoPT. The aim of this study is to investigate the diagnostic power of the serum Ca/P ratio in the diagnosis of primary parathyroid dysfunctions (both PHPT and HypoPT) in a large series of data.

Contrast-enhanced ultrasound applications in liver transplant imaging.

Contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) is gaining ever-increasing acceptance in the preoperative and postoperative evaluation of liver-transplanted patients. While indications are still a matter of research, CEUS is used in tertiary centers to supplement ultrasound (US) and Color Doppler US examination, with the potential of providing a comprehensive first-line ultrasound-based diagnosis. Alternatively, CEUS is used as a problem-solving tool when previous cross-sectional or US imaging was inconclusive, especially in assessing hepatocellular carcinoma, parenchymal perfusion abnormalities, the vascular status, and even the biliary tree.

Multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI) has become the standard of care to achieve accurate and reproducible diagnosis of prostate cancer. However, mpMRI is quite demanding in terms of technical rigour, patient's tolerability and safety, expertise in interpretation, and costs. This paper reviews the main technical strategies proposed as less-is-better solutions for clinical practice (non-contrast biparametric MRI, reduction of acquisition time, abbreviated protocols, computer-aided diagnosis systems), discussing them in the light of the available evidence and of the concurrent evolution of Prostate Imaging Reporting and Data System (PI-RADS).
