Real-world use of once-weekly semaglutide in patients with type 2 diabetes at an outpatient clinic in Spain.

Objectives: To investigate the use of once-weekly semaglutide in a real population of people with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in three Spanish hospitals.

Method: An observational, retrospective and multicenter clinical study was designed that included 166 participants with T2DM, distinguishing between a group naïve to GLP-1RA (n=72) and another switching from another GLP-1RA (n=94), all managed in the outpatient clinical setting. The primary endpoint was the change in HbA1c from baseline to the end of the study.

Healthy lifestyle, metabolomics and incident type 2 diabetes in a population-based cohort from Spain.

Background: The contribution of metabolomic factors to the association of healthy lifestyle with type 2 diabetes risk is unknown. We assessed the association of a composite measure of lifestyle with plasma metabolite profiles and incident type 2 diabetes, and whether relevant metabolites can explain the prospective association between healthy lifestyle and incident type 2 diabetes.

Methods: A Healthy Lifestyle Score (HLS) (5-point scale including diet, physical activity, smoking status, alcohol consumption and BMI) was estimated in 1016 Hortega Study participants, who had targeted plasma metabolomic determinations at baseline examination in 2001-2003, and were followed-up to 2015 to ascertain incident type 2 diabetes.

The relationship between viral infections and cancer is well known and has been established for decades. Multiple tumours are generated from alterations secondary to viral infections 2 resulting from a dysregulation of the immune system in many cases. Certain causal relationships, such as that between the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) in nasopharyngeal cancer or hepatitis C and B viruses in hepatocarcinoma, have been clearly established, and their implications for the prognosis and treatment of solid tumours are currently unknown.

Radiomics, in combination with artificial intelligence, has emerged as a powerful tool for the development of predictive models in neuro-oncology. Our study aims to find an answer to a clinically relevant question: is there a radiomic profile that can identify glioblastoma (GBM) patients with short-term survival after complete tumor resection? A retrospective study of GBM patients who underwent surgery was conducted in two institutions between January 2019 and January 2020, along with cases from public databases. Cases with gross total or near total tumor resection were included.

Evaluation of the reporting quality of clinical practice guidelines on gliomas using the RIGHT checklist.

Background: The reporting quality of clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) for gliomas has not yet been thoroughly assessed. The International Reporting Items for Practice Guidelines in Healthcare (RIGHT) statement developed in 2016 provides a reporting framework to improve the quality of CPGs. We aimed to estimate the reporting quality of glioma guidelines using the RIGHT checklist and investigate how the reporting quality differs by selected characteristics.

Resistance to Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors Secondary to Myeloid-Derived Suppressor Cells: A New Therapeutic Targeting of Haematological Malignancies.

Myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) are a set of immature myeloid lineage cells that include macrophages, granulocytes, and dendritic cell precursors. This subpopulation has been described in relation to the tumour processes at different levels, including resistance to immunotherapy, such as immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs). Currently, multiple studies at the preclinical and clinical levels seek to use this cell population for the treatment of different haematological neoplasms, together with ICIs.

Methods: Histologically confirmed glioma patients who were to undergo surgery between January 2018 and December 2019 were prospectively enrolled. All patients had a preoperative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) study that included DTI, a tumor 2 cm or less from the CST, and postsurgical control within 48 h.

Background: The differential diagnosis of glioblastomas (GBM) from solitary brain metastases (SBM) is essential because the surgical strategy varies according to the histopathological diagnosis. Intraoperative ultrasound elastography (IOUS-E) is a relatively novel technique implemented in the surgical management of brain tumors that provides additional information about the elasticity of tissues. This study compares the discriminative capacity of intraoperative ultrasound B-mode and strain elastography to differentiate GBM from SBM.

Relationship between the overall survival in glioblastomas and the radiomic features of intraoperative ultrasound: a feasibility study.

Purpose: Predicting the survival of patients diagnosed with glioblastoma (GBM) is essential to guide surgical strategy and subsequent adjuvant therapies. Intraoperative ultrasound (IOUS) can contain biological information that could be correlated with overall survival (OS). We propose a simple extraction method and radiomic feature analysis based on IOUS imaging to estimate OS in GBM patients.

Dopamine Receptors and the Kidney: An Overview of Health- and Pharmacological-Targeted Implications.

The dopaminergic system can adapt to the different physiological or pathological situations to which the kidneys are subjected throughout life, maintaining homeostasis of natriuresis, extracellular volume, and blood pressure levels. The role of renal dopamine receptor dysfunction is clearly established in the pathogenesis of essential hypertension. Its associations with other pathological states such as insulin resistance and redox balance have also been associated with dysfunction of the dopaminergic system.

Background: The consistency of meningioma is a factor that may influence surgical planning and the extent of resection. The aim of our study is to develop a predictive model of tumor consistency using the radiomic features of preoperative magnetic resonance imaging and the tumor elasticity measured by intraoperative ultrasound elastography (IOUS-E) as a reference parameter.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed on supratentorial meningiomas that were operated on between March 2018 and July 2020.

Arsenic, cadmium, and selenium exposures and bone mineral density-related endpoints: The HORTEGA study.

Background And Objectives: Experimental data suggest that trace elements, such as arsenic (As), cadmium (Cd), and selenium (Se) can influence the bone remodeling process. We evaluated the cross-sectional association between As, Cd, and Se biomarkers with bone mineral density (BMD) measured at the calcaneus, in a representative sample of a general population from Spain. As secondary analyses we evaluated the associations of interest in subgroups defined by well-established BMD determinants, and also conducted prospective analysis of osteoporosis-related incident bone fractures restricted to participants older than 50 years-old.

Stiffness degree of ankle range of motion in diabetic patients with atypical amputation.

Objective: In diabetics, foot deformities are risk factors that increase the risk of amputation as a result of developing ulcers. However, knowledge of the influence of plantar stiffness is still limited. The main objective was to describe connections between the degree of stiffness of the ankle, atypical amputation, and the Foot Posture Index (FPI).

Usefulness of infection biomarkers for diagnosing bacteremia in patients with a sepsis code in the emergency department.

The objective of this study was to assess the usefulness of the biomarkers lactate, C-reactive protein (CPR) and procalcitonin for the diagnosis of bacteremia in patients with suspected sepsis in the emergency department (ED) and according to the focus of infection. We conducted a retrospective study among patients included in the sepsis code of our ED between November 2013 and December 2017. We analyzed demographic variables, co-morbidity according to the Charlson Index and focus of infection, blood cultures and classification according to Gram staining.
