Background: Treatment of multiple sclerosis (MS) with delayed-release dimethyl fumarate (DMF) has shown efficacy and safety in clinical trials. However, the occurrence of infectious complications, particularly in elderly patients, remains a concern.

Methods: We present the case of a 63-year-old woman with late-onset MS treated with DMF, who developed a severe primary cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection.

Background: The use of Smart Screening tools to identify mental health problems has scarce empirical data on their effectiveness. This study aims to explore the response rate of patients to this tool and observe their socio-demographic and healthcare characteristics, and the tool's ability to detect potential mental health diagnoses.

Methods: The study employed an online survey within patient portal from patients of four teaching hospitals in Madrid.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the use of swept-source optical coherence tomography angiography (SS-OCTA) to observe vitreoretinal interface cells (VRICs) in patients with active uveitis over three time points: during active inflammation, improvement, and resolution.
  • Researchers analyzed 20 eyes and found that VRIC numbers and sizes were significantly higher during active inflammation compared to healthy controls; they decreased with clinical improvement and stabilized after inflammation resolution.
  • The results suggest that SS-OCTA can effectively visualize VRIC dynamics, offering new potential therapeutic targets in managing uveitis and its inflammation-related changes.

The COVID-19 patients showed hyperinflammatory response depending on the severity of the disease but little have been reported about this response in oncologic patients that also were infected with the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Sixty-five circulating cytokines/chemokines were quantified in 15 oncologic patients, just after SARS-CoV-2 infection and fourteen days later, and their levels were compared in patients who required hospitalisation by COVID-19 versus non-hospitalised patients. A higher median age of 72 years (range 61-83) in oncologic patients after SARS-CoV-2 infection was associated with hospitalisation requirement by COVID-19 versus a median age of 49 years (20-75) observed in the non-hospitalised oncologic patients (p = 0.

Background: Functional limitations are associated with poor clinical outcomes, higher mortality, and disability rates, especially in older adults. Continuous assessment of patients' functionality is important for clinical practice; however, traditional questionnaire-based assessment methods are very time-consuming and infrequently used. Mobile sensing offers a great range of sources that can assess function and disability daily.

Depressive disorders represent the largest proportion of mental illnesses, and by 2030, they are expected to be the first cause of disability-adjusted life years [1]. The COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated prevalence and burden of depression and increased the occurrence of depressive symptoms in general population [2]. The urgency of implementing mental health services to address new barriers to care persuaded clinicians to use telemedicine to follow patients and stay in touch with them, and to explore digital therapeutics (DTx) as potential tools for clinical intervention [2].

Aims: To detect macrophage-like cells (MLCs) in uveitis patients and describe their characteristics compared to healthy subjects by using SS-OCTA.

Methods: Fifteen consecutive patients with "active" uveitis and 11 healthy participants underwent 6 macular scans of 6×6mm using SS-OCTA. The 3μm OCT slabs on inner limiting membrane were used to visualize the MLCs.

Neighborhood socioeconomic status seems to be related to functioning in patients with first episode of psychosis (FEP). The present study aimed to assess if neighborhood vulnerability and risk of social exclusion could predict functional outcomes in people with FEP after controlling for other key variables identified in previous literature. A total of 137 patients with FEP ( criteria) and 90 controls comprised the study sample from February 2013 to May 2019.

(1) Background: In the "post-COVID-19 era", there is a need to focus on properly assessing and addressing the extent of its well-established mental health collateral damage. The "Electronic Mental Wellness Tool" (E-mwTool) is a 13-item validated stepped-care or stratified management instrument that aims at the high-sensitivity captures of individuals with mental health disorders to determine the need for mental health care. This study validated the E-mwTool in a Spanish-speaking population.

Introduction: Social functioning is severely affected in psychotic disorders. Negative symptoms and social cognition seem to play an important role in social functioning, although the preponderance and relationship between these three domains is not clear. In this study, we sought to assess the interrelation between social cognition, social functioning, and the expressiveness and experiential factors of negative symptoms in first-episode psychosis (FEP).

Purpose: The current gold standard to grade vitreous inflammation is the Nussenblatt scale based in clinical examination, published in 1985. Nowadays a big effort is undergoing to come out with more objective and reliable methods based in optical coherence (OCT) imaging analysis.

Methods: A systematic review was done to identify the articles that quantify or assess qualitatively vitreous inflammation with OCT.
