Eur J Vasc Endovasc Surg

April 2018

St George's Vascular Institute, St George's Hospital, NHS Foundation Trust, London, UK; Molecular and Clinical Sciences Research Institute, St George's, University of London, London, UK.

Objective/background: Increasingly, reports show that compliance rates with endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) surveillance are often suboptimal. The aim of this study was to determine the safety implications of non-compliance with surveillance.

Methods: The study was carried out according to the Preferred Items for Reporting of Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines.

Background: In advanced prostate cancer (APC), successful drug development as well as advances in imaging and molecular characterisation have resulted in multiple areas where there is lack of evidence or low level of evidence. The Advanced Prostate Cancer Consensus Conference (APCCC) 2017 addressed some of these topics.

Objective: To present the report of APCCC 2017.

Background: A large number of chromosomal translocations of the human KMT2A gene, better known as the MLL gene, have so far been characterized. Genetic rearrangements involving KMT2A gene are frequently involved in lymphoid, myeloid and mixed lineage leukemia. One of its rare fusion partners, the mastermind like 2 (MAML2) gene has been reported in four cases of myeloid neoplasms after chemotherapy so far: two acute myeloid leukemias (AML) and two myelodysplasic syndrome (MDS), and two cases of secondary T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL).

Morphological Analysis of Healthy Aortic Arch.

Eur J Vasc Endovasc Surg

May 2017

Aix-Marseille Université, IFSTTAR, UMR T24, 13916, Marseille, France; APHM, University Hospital Nord, Department of Vascular Surgery, 13915, Marseille, France.

Objective/background: This study aimed to describe an arch morphology protocol in a healthy population, and to assess the impact of age and sex.

Methods: A retrospective morphology evaluation was conducted in a population with no personal history of thoracic aorta surgery or pathology, through computed tomography (CT) imaging analysis, using a standardised protocol. Based on centreline three dimensional coordinates, a single investigator calculated a series of parameters in the arch zones and in the total arch, using Matlab scripts.

Human papillomaviruses (HPV) are involved in the development of anogenital and head and neck cancers. The purpose of this study was to assess the risk of developing a second primary cancer (SPC) after a first potentially-HPV-related cancer, and to analyze the sites where SPCs most frequently occurred in these patients. All patients with a first cancer diagnosed between 1989 and 2004, as recorded by 10 French cancer registries, were followed up until December 31, 2007.

Vascularized composite tissue allografts (VCA) have become a viable option to restore severely damaged parts of the body that cannot be repaired with conventional surgical techniques. Acute rejection develops frequently in the early postgraft period both in human and experimental VCA, but the possibility of human VCA to undergo chronic rejection (CR) remained initially unknown. The experience gained over the years shows that, similar to solid organ transplants (SOT), human VCA can also develop CR.

Risk Factor Analysis for the Mal-Positioning of Thoracic Aortic Stent Grafts.

Eur J Vasc Endovasc Surg

July 2016

Aix-Marseille Université, IFSTTAR, Marseille, France; APHM, University Hospital Nord, Department of Vascular Surgery, Marseille, France.

Objective: The present study aimed at quantifying mal-positioning during thoracic endovascular aortic repair and analysing the extent to which anatomical factors influence the exact stent graft positioning.

Methods: A retrospective review was conducted of patients treated between 2007 and 2014 with a stent graft for whom proximal landing zones (LZ) could be precisely located by anatomical fixed landmarks, that is LZ 1, 2, or 3. The study included 66 patients (54 men; mean age 51 years, range 17-83 years) treated for traumatic aortic rupture (n = 27), type B aortic dissection (n = 21), thoracic aortic aneurysm (n = 8), penetrating aortic ulcer (n = 5), intramural hematoma (n = 1), and floating aortic thrombus (n = 4).

Recipients of solid organ transplants (RSOT) have a highly increased risk for developing cutaneous premalignant and malignant lesions, favored by the lifelong immunosuppression. Vascularized composite tissue allografts (VCA) have been introduced recently, and relevant data are sparse. Two patients with skin cancers (one with basal cell carcinoma and one with squamous cell carcinomas) have been so far reported in this patient group.

Causative variants in APP, PSEN1 or PSEN2 account for a majority of cases of autosomal dominant early-onset Alzheimer disease (ADEOAD, onset before 65 years). Variant detection rates in other EOAD patients, that is, with family history of late-onset AD (LOAD) (and no incidence of EOAD) and sporadic cases might be much lower. We analyzed the genomes from 264 patients using whole-exome sequencing (WES) with high depth of coverage: 90 EOAD patients with family history of LOAD and no incidence of EOAD in the family and 174 patients with sporadic AD starting between 51 and 65 years.

Objectives: The aim was to analyze the role played by anatomy and stent graft in the incidence of incomplete apposition to aortic arch.

Methods: Between 2007 and 2014 data including available and suitable computed tomographic angiography (CTA) imaging of patients who had undergone thoracic endovascular aortic repair were reviewed. The study included 80 patients (65 men, 54 ± 21 years) treated for traumatic aortic rupture (n = 27), thoracic aortic aneurysm (n = 15), type B aortic dissection (n = 24), penetrating aortic ulcer (n = 5), intramural hematoma (n = 2), aorto-oesophageal fistula (n = 2), and aortic mural thrombus (n = 5).

Purpose Of Review: To assess the current place for androgen deprivation therapy as single modality in locally advanced nonmetastatic situations.

Recent Findings: One standard of care for node negative locally advanced disease is a combination of external beam with androgen deprivation treatment. Several recent randomized trials have confirmed the key role of a local treatment combined to a systemic one in terms of specific and overall survival.
