Background: Sero-surveillance of SARS-CoV-2 is crucial to monitoring levels of population exposure and informing public health responses, but may be influenced by variability in performance between available assays.
Methods: Five commercial immunoassays and a neutralising activity assay were used to detect antibodies to SARS-CoV-2 in routine primary care and paediatric samples collected during the first wave of the pandemic in NHS Lothian, Scotland as part of ongoing surveillance efforts. For each assay, sensitivity and specificity was calculated relative to consensus results (majority of immunoassays positive = overall positive) and neutralising activity.

Eagle's syndrome is a rare cause of cervicofacial pain and is due to abnormalities in the stylohyoid process, stylohyoid ligament or lesser cornu of the hyoid bone. Generally, patients affected by Eagle's syndrome present with pain in the lateral or upper neck, angle of the mandible, submandibular space and throat (exacerbated by head movements and/or mastication); foreign body sensation; headache and referred otalgia. A 66-year old gentleman presented with a 36-month history of recurrent pain localising mainly to the right angle of the mandible and radiating to the submandibular triangle.

Background: Three-dimensional endoscopes provide a stereoscopic view of the operating field, facilitating depth perception compared to two-dimensional systems, but are not yet widely accepted. Existing research addresses performance and preference, but there are no studies that quantify anatomical orientation in endoscopic ear surgery.
Methods: Participants (n = 70) were randomised in starting with either the two-dimensional or three-dimensional endoscope system to perform one of two tasks: anatomical orientation using a labelled three-dimensional printed silicone model of the middle ear, or simulated endoscopic skills.

Aim: Provisional research on the faecal immunohistochemical test (FIT) for symptomatic colorectal patients has shown a high negative predictive value but has lacked long-term patient follow-up, raising the possibility of missed diagnoses of colorectal cancer (CRC). The aim of this work is to describe the long-term diagnostic accuracy of the FIT for CRC and significant bowel disease (SBD) in a symptomatic population in NHS Lanarkshire.
Method: From October 2016 to February 2019, all primary care referrals of symptomatic colorectal patients in NHS Lanarkshire were asked to provide a FIT.

Introduction And Importance: Internal herniae are a rare cause of acute small bowel obstruction (SBO), accounting for <1% of all causes of SBO. Given their low incidence and often vague presenting symptoms there can be a delay in their diagnosis - which can lead to unnecessary morbidity for patients.
Case Presentation: We present a case of a 34 year-old nulliparous female who presented with acute abdominal pain and transpired to have a closed loop obstruction of her ileum through a congenital defect in her broad ligament, or a Quain hernia.

Chronic eosinophilic leukaemia, not otherwise specified (CEL, NOS), is a diagnosis of exclusion made in cases in which there is clonal eosinophilia but an absence of genetic aberrations that define other disease subtypes. There is a need for further characterization of these cases in order to inform risk stratification and management. The importance of JAK2 mutations in myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN) as a whole is well established, although their role specifically in eosinophilic disorders is less clear, with only a minority of cases demonstrating JAK2 abnormalities.

Purpose: The main sources of post-cholecystectomy bile leakage (PCBL) not involving major duct injuries are the cystic duct and subvesical/hepatocystic ducts. Of the many studies on the diagnosis and management of PCBL, few addressed measures to avoid this serious complication. The aim of this study was to examine the causes and mechanisms leading to PCBL and to evaluate the effects of specific preventative strategies.
