Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis(MASH) is commonly seen in biopsy proven steatotic liver disease(SLD). Life-style intervention reaching a weight loss higher than 10% promotes MASH resolution, but this goal is only achieved by a small number of patients. Endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty(ESG) has recently emerged as a safe and effective option to promote weight loss in obese population.

This study examines the impact of cytogenetic abnormalities and their co-segregation on the prognosis of newly diagnosed multiple myeloma patients. The analysis included 1304 patients from four different GEM-PETHEMA clinical trials. Genetic alterations, such as t(4;14), t(14;16), del(17p), +1q, and del(1p), were investigated using FISH on CD38 purified plasma cells.

Through its enzymatic activity, ACSBG1 converts LCFAs into acyl-CoA derivatives, supporting vital processes like membrane formation, myelination, and energy production. Its regulatory role significantly influences neuronal growth, synaptic plasticity, and overall brain development, highlighting its importance in maintaining lipid homeostasis and proper brain function.

Introduction/aims/background: Pyoderma gangrenosum is an immune-mediated illness that can be caused by several affections, such as inflammatory bowel disease, rheumatoid arthritis, and drug use. We present a rare case of pyoderma gangrenosum induced by levamisole-adulterated cocaine. There have been few cases of this disease reported in the world.

Introduction: Clinical guidelines recommend comprehensive multifactorial assessment and intervention to prevent falls and fractures in older populations.
Methods: A descriptive study was conducted by the Falls Study Group of the Spanish Geriatric Medicine Society (SEMEG) to outline which types of healthcare-specific resources were assigned for fall assessment in Spanish geriatric departments. A self-reported seven-item questionnaire was delivered from February 2019 to February 2020.

Objectives: Autoantibodies and, specifically antinuclear antibodies (ANA), are the hallmark of systemic autoimmune diseases (AID). In the last decades, there has been great technical development to detect these autoantibodies along with an increased request for this test by clinicians, while the overall pre-test probability has decreased. In this study, we compare the diagnostic performance of three different methods for ANA screening (indirect immunofluorescence [IIF], addressable laser bead immunoassay [ALBIA], and fluorescence enzyme immunoassay [FEIA]).

Background: The aim of the study was to analyze the impact of palliative radiotherapy on quality of life (QoL) in patients with symptomatic bone metastases.
Materials And Methods: We present the results from a prospective multicentric study including 128 patients who provided pre- and post-radiotherapy (one month after treatment) brief pain inventory (BPI) assessments. Worst pain was recorded using the BPI (range: 0-10).
Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), the most frequent non-Hodgkin's lymphoma subtype, is characterized by strong biological, morphological, and clinical heterogeneity, but patients are treated with immunochemotherapy in a relatively homogeneous way. Here, we have used a customized NanoString platform to analyze a series of 197 homogeneously treated DLBCL cases. The platform includes the most relevant genes or signatures known to be useful for predicting response to R-CHOP (Rituximab, Cyclophosphamide, Doxorubicin, Vincristine, and Prednisone) in DLBCL cases.

Background: In COPD, the bronchial epithelium shows a pathologically activated Wnt pathway. Sclerostin (SOST) is a secreted glycoprotein that is associated with bone metabolism and blocks the Wnt pathway. We hypothesized that low sclerostin levels might be associated with lung function and COPD exacerbations in patients.

Background: To evaluate a wide range of optical coherence tomography (OCT) parameters for possible application as a screening tool for cognitively healthy individuals at risk of Alzheimer's disease (AD), assessing the potential relationship with established cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) core AD biomarkers and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
Methods: We studied 99 participants from the Valdecilla Study for Memory and Brain Aging. This is a prospective cohort for multimodal biomarker discovery and validation that includes participants older than 55 years without dementia.

Background: The 2-dimensional, 4-quadrant 2017 Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) COPD A-D assessment tool (GOLD) does not include lung function variables to classify patients into different risk groups. The previous 2011 tool (GOLD) classified cases in the upper-quadrants (higher risk groups) regardless of whether they had a history of exacerbations or worse lung function. We hypothesized that a modified, three-dimensional classification (GOLD) that separately includes assessment of lung function and exacerbations history would improve the ability to predict adverse events.

We evaluated the treatment effect of DES versus BMS according to the target artery (left anterior descending [LAD] and/or left main [LM] versus other territories [no-LAD/LM]). Methods and Results The Coronary Stent Trialist (CST) Collaboration gathered individual patient data of randomized trials of DES versus BMS for the treatment of coronary artery disease.

Infections have become one of the main complications of patients with severe SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia admitted in ICU. Poor immune status, frequent development of organic failure requiring invasive supportive treatments, and prolonged ICU length of stay in saturated structural areas of patients are risk factors for infection development. The Working Group on Infectious Diseases and Sepsis GTEIS of the Spanish Society of Intensive Medicine and Coronary Units SEMICYUC emphasizes the importance of infection prevention measures related to health care, the detection and early treatment of major infections in the patient with SARS-CoV-2 infections.

Elephantiasis nostras verrucosa (ENV) is the most severe form of chronic non-filarial lymphedema that leads to disfiguration of body parts. Multiple topical and surgical treatments have been typically used with high relapse rates and local complications. In this context, CO2 laser emerges as a new well-tolerated and effective treatment option.

Introduction: While kidney transplantation successfully reverses many complications of uremia that are not corrected with dialysis therapy, elevated parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels and other alterations of mineral metabolism persist in transplant recipients.
Patients And Methods: A single-center cohort retrospective database analysis was performed of 497 consecutive adult patients who underwent first kidney transplantation between 1994 and 2004. At 1- and 5-year follow-up, a descriptive analysis was performed of mineral metabolism parameters of chronic kidney disease stage according to NKF KDOQI (National Kidney Foundation Kidney Disease Outcomes Quality Initiative) in patients with a functional graft at 1 year.
