Article Synopsis
  • - Adenosquamous proliferation (ASP) is identified by two types of cells, glandular and squamous, found in specific breast lesions that exhibit sclerosing characteristics, excluding sclerosing adenosis.
  • - ASP is linked to a variety of breast lesions, known as sclerosing lesions (SL) and breast lesions with sclerosis (BLWS), which can have different names despite being similar in structure and appearance.
  • - There is a notable relationship between SL/BLWS and low-grade metaplastic carcinoma, specifically low-grade adenosquamous carcinoma (LGASC), as both share similar histological features, suggesting a possible connection in their development.

The Regenerative Potential of Donkey and Human Milk on the Redox-Sensitive and Proliferative Signaling Pathways of Skin Fibroblasts.

Oxid Med Cell Longev

May 2021

Department of Dermatology and Allergology, Stadtisches Klinikum Dresden, Dresden, Germany.

The influence of milk bioactive peptides on skin regenerative potential and rejuvenation is very often limited because of allergic reactions. The current study is aimed at exploring the influence of donkey colostrum and mature milk, human colostrum and mature milk, and -casein and -casomorphine-7, on the growth and inflammatory response of the culture of cultured skin fibroblasts exposed to these conditions for twenty-four hours. Their effects on the growth-regulatory kinases and redox-sensitive, proinflammatory transcriptional factor NF-B were detected by using specific primary antibodies against NF-B p65, Akt-1, phospho-Akt-1, Erk-1, phospho-Erk-1, JNK, phospho-JNK, phospho-STAT-1, and CD26, while logarithmic integrated fluorescence intensity patterns were recorded by flow cytometry.

De Garengeot hernia is a rare femoral hernia that contains the vermiform appendix. It has always been a subject of interest, mainly because of its uncommon entity, but also because of the diagnostic challenge it presents and the lack of consensus in its surgical management. It mainly presents as an emergency, with strangulation of the femoral hernia and acute inflammation of the appendix.

Objectives: First, to validate a previously developed model for screening for pre-eclampsia (PE) by maternal characteristics and medical history in twin pregnancies; second, to compare the distributions of mean arterial pressure (MAP), uterine artery pulsatility index (UtA-PI), serum placental growth factor (PlGF) and serum pregnancy-associated plasma protein-A (PAPP-A) in twin pregnancies that delivered with PE to those in singleton pregnancies and to develop new models based on these results; and, third, to examine the predictive performance of these models in screening for PE with delivery at < 32 and < 37 weeks' gestation.

Methods: Two datasets of prospective non-intervention multicenter screening studies for PE in twin pregnancies at 11 + 0 to 13 + 6 weeks' gestation were used. The first dataset was from the EVENTS (Early vaginal progesterone for the preVention of spontaneous prEterm birth iN TwinS) trial and the second was from a previously reported study that examined the distributions of biomarkers in twin pregnancies.

Patient safety incidents (PSIs) are unintended or unexpected incidents which can or do lead to patient harm. The Joint Advisory Group on Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (JAG) acknowledges that PSIs should be reviewed by endoscopy services and learning shared among staff. It is recognised that more could be done to promote shared learning as outlined by the JAG 'Improving Safety and Reducing Error in Endoscopy' strategy.

Objectives: Conebeam computed tomography (CBCT) imaging is commonly requested by dental implant surgeons, preoperatively, for patients being considered for dental implants. Incidental maxillary sinus findings often result in otolaryngology (ENT) referral for further assessment. CBCT findings include transient and benign mucosal changes that may not require any intervention and therefore unnecessarily delay implant surgery.

Future Healthc J

June 2020

University Hospital Lewisham, Lewisham, UK and education and leadership fellow, Health Education England, London, UK.

Medical education has changed focus to a more learner-centred model, placing learners at the centre of innovations in training. The escape room is one such innovative learner-focused activity, in which a team of players cooperatively discover clues, solve puzzles and complete tasks in order to progress through the challenge to achieve a specific goal. Escape rooms can be used in medical education as a tool for team building, an entertaining way of delivering technical and non-technical skills, to read and acquire or refresh knowledge, as well as for educational research.
