Generalized tetanus complicated with Takotsubo-cardiomyopathy in a septuagenarian following a laceration injury with soil contamination - a case report.

Background: Tetanus is a clinical rarity due to the successful globally adopted childhood vaccination programme. The rising elderly population in the United Kingdom creates a subset of individuals whom are prone to develop Tetanus as they preceded this vaccination drive. A 76 year old Caucasian lady presented with a soil contaminated laceration injury on her knee following a fall.

Takotsubo cardiomyopathy following pacemaker insertion complicated with polymorphic ventricular tachycardia: a case report.

Background: Takotsubo cardiomyopathy is a novel form of rapidly reversible heart failure occurring secondary to a stressor that mimics an acute coronary event. The underlying etiology of the stressor is highly variable and can include medical procedures. Pacemaker insertion is an infrequent cause of Takotsubo cardiomyopathy.

A prospective cohort study on post COVID syndrome from a tertiary care centre in Sri Lanka.

There is a scarcity of follow-up data on post-COVID syndrome and its physical, psychological, and quality of life attributes, particularly from South Asian populations. This study was conducted to assess the prevalence, associations, and impact of the post-COVID syndrome among patients treated at a dedicated COVID-19 treatment unit. A prospective cohort study was conducted to follow-up patients with moderate to severe disease or mild disease with co-morbidities at 2 and 6 weeks, 3 and 6 months and 1 year from discharge.

Hip fractures and outcome in elderly patients in a tertiary care hospital of Sri Lanka.

Unlabelled: This study assessed how elderly patients with hip fractures were affected by factors such as comorbidities, fracture type, treatments, complications, and health-related quality of life. The majority of participants had surgery for their fracture with good prognoses despite having comorbidities. Reductions in the general level of activities related to daily living were proportionately higher even after one year.

Oxygen saturation targets for adults with acute hypoxemia in low and lower-middle income countries: a scoping review with analysis of contextual factors.

Knowing the target oxygen saturation (SpO) range that results in the best outcomes for acutely hypoxemic adults is important for clinical care, training, and research in low-income and lower-middle income countries (collectively LMICs). The evidence we have for SpO targets emanates from high-income countries (HICs), and therefore may miss important contextual factors for LMIC settings. Furthermore, the evidence from HICs is mixed, amplifying the importance of specific circumstances.

Current status and future prospects of radiation oncology in Sri Lanka.

Purpose: To investigate the current status of radiation treatment facilities in Sri Lanka and to explore future possibilities required to adequately address increasing cancer care.

Methods: Hospitals with radiation therapy facilities from across the country were identified. Data pertaining to the types of radiotherapy equipment, radiation oncology staffing, and radiotherapy education were collected by onsite visit, conversation over the phone, and from other available cancer resources in Sri Lanka.
