Introduction: Mechanical thrombectomy (MT) is the standard of care in anterior circulation large vessel occlusion. A vital modifiable factor is successful reperfusion. While multiple passes improve the rates of successful reperfusion, previous studies have reported progressively diminishing returns.

Objectives: Diurnal variation of plasma glucose levels may contribute to diagnostic uncertainty. The permissible time interval, (), was proposed as a time-dependent characteristic to specify the time within which glucose levels from two consecutive samples are not biased by the time of blood collection. A major obstacle is the lack of population-specific data that reflect the diurnal course of a measurand.

Studies have pointed to a decisive role of autoantibodies in the context of sepsis and severe Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), which itself often fulfills the criteria for sepsis, including dysregulated immune responses and organ dysfunction. To directly compare and further analyze the autoantibody profiles of sepsis patients with and without COVID-19, the luciferase immunoprecipitation systems (LIPS) assay was used to measure the levels of autoantibodies against a variety of clinically relevant cytokines, lung-associated proteins, other autoantigens, and antibodies against the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). In addition, cytokine titers were measured with the LEGENDplex™ Human Antivirus Response Panel.

Background: In light of increasing therapeutic options, risk stratification of advanced cardiac transthyretin amyloidosis (ATTR-CA) is gaining clinical importance to avoid ineffective treatments. Liver stiffness as a marker of hypervolemia and hepatic congestion might predict mortality in advanced ATTR-CA and allow to identify patients at highest risk.
Methods: Proven ATTR-CA patients underwent repeated vibration-controlled transient elastography (VTCE) and standardized serial workup within the local amyloidosis cohort study AmyKoS.

To demonstrate the burden of sexual dysfunction (SD) among females with rheumatic diseases, we conducted a cross-sectional comparative study in patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc), systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), and Behçet's syndrome (BS) along with suitable healthy controls (HCs). Age-matched female patients with SSc (n = 50), SLE (n = 49), and BS (n = 54), along with 52 female HCs were included in this study between April and October, 2021. Sociodemographic features were recorded, and psychometric tests, i.

To evaluate the efficacy and safety of minimally invasive tubular removal of spinal schwannoma and neurofibroma. In this single-centre study, we retrospectively analysed 49 consecutive patients who underwent minimally invasive removal of a total of 51 benign spinal nerve sheath tumors using a non-expandable (n = 18) or expandable tubular retractor (n = 33) retractor system between June 2007 and December 2019. The extent of resection, surgical complications, neurological outcome, operative time, and estimated blood loss were recorded.

Background: In sepsis, initial resuscitation with fluids is followed by efforts to achieve a negative fluid balance. However, patients with sepsis-associated acute kidney injury (SA-AKI) often need diuretic or renal replacement therapy (RRT). The dilemma is to predict whether early RRT might be advantageous or diuretics will suffice.

Objective: To investigate the repercussions of the war in Ukraine on people with epilepsy (PWE), focusing on access to health care, seizure control, quality of life (QoL), psychological distress, anxiety, and depression; and to identify the key factors influencing these measures.
Methods: Consecutive PWE, ≥18 years of age, presenting to one of seven health centers across Ukraine were invited to complete a self-administered survey in 2023. The survey gathered information on clinical and demographic aspects, geographic displacement, and access to care and medications.

Patients with brain tumors suffer from intense psychosocial distress. Although the prevalence of depressive symptoms in patients with brain tumors is high, the pharmacological antidepressant treatment of those patients is not well defined and results from clinical trials are largely missing. In this review, we describe the current standard of evidence and clinical guidelines for the pharmacological treatment of depression in brain tumor patients.

Objectives: Tooth extraction is one of the most frequently performed medical procedures. The indication is based on the combination of clinical and radiological examination and individual patient parameters and should be made with great care. However, determining whether a tooth should be extracted is not always a straightforward decision.

The contemporary neuroscience understanding of the brain as an active inference organ supports that our conscious experiences, including sensorimotor perceptions, depend on the integration of probabilistic predictions with incoming sensory input across hierarchically organized levels. As in other systems, these complex processes are prone to error under certain circumstances, which may lead to alterations in their outcomes (i.e.

Background: Anastomosis configuration is an essential step in treatment to restore continuity of the gastrointestinal tract following bowel resection in patients with Crohn's disease (CD). However, the association between anastomotic type and surgical outcome remains controversial. This retrospective study aimed to compare early postoperative complications and surgical outcome between stapler and handsewn anastomosis after bowel resection in Crohn's disease.
