Background Due to conflicting findings in the literature, there are concerns about a lack of objectivity in grading knee osteoarthritis (KOA) on radiographs. Purpose To examine how artificial intelligence (AI) assistance affects the performance and interobserver agreement of radiologists and orthopedists of various experience levels when evaluating KOA on radiographs according to the established Kellgren-Lawrence (KL) grading system. Materials and Methods In this retrospective observer performance study, consecutive standing knee radiographs from patients with suspected KOA were collected from three participating European centers between April 2019 and May 2022.

Increased plasma levels of glucagon (hyperglucagonemia) promote diabetes development but are also observed in patients with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). This may reflect hepatic glucagon resistance toward amino acid catabolism. A clinical test for measuring glucagon resistance has not been validated.

Introduction: People with psychotic disorders are at increased risk of experiencing involuntary hospital admissions relative to other psychiatric patients. Within this group, refugees and other minority groups may be at even greater risk. However, little is known about the role of migration background in the risk of involuntary admissions around the time of first psychosis-related treatment.

Background: Thyroid autoimmunity (TAI) may be present in 1-17% of pregnant women. Monitoring of thyroid function in euthyroid pregnant women positive for anti-thyroperoxidase antibodies (TPOAb+) is recommended.
Objective: To determine the prevalence and possible clinical and biological risk factors of biochemical progression (rise in serum thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) > 2.

It is well known that inflammatory markers play an important role in the development and maintenance of healthy pregnancies. However, the literature regarding inflammation in relation to lifestyle and adverse pregnancy outcomes in twin pregnancies is remarkably uncovered. Therefore, this study aimed at evaluating the concentration of inflammatory markers in dried capillary blood spot samples from 523 women with twin pregnancies, included at a median gestational age of 21+1 weeks.

Background: Childhood asthma is a prevalent condition with potential impacts on adult life.
Research Question: In a 60-year follow-up study of adults with a history of severe childhood asthma, what are the potential differences in characteristics between individuals with persistent asthma and asthma remission in adulthood?
Study Design And Methods: Danish adults with a history of childhood asthma and a 4-month stay at an asthma care facility in Kongsberg, Norway (1950-1979) in childhood were included. Recruitment was carried out through social media and personal invitation letters.

Background: Radicular pain is the most predominant symptom among adults with Lyme neuroborreliosis (LNB) but the duration preceding and following diagnosis remains unknown. We aimed to investigate whether patients with LNB have increased obtainment of analgesics before and after diagnosis and for how long.
Methods: We performed a nationwide, population-based, matched cohort study (2009-2021).

Introduction: Opioids used to manage severe pain in acute pancreatitis (AP) might exacerbate the disease through effects on gastrointestinal and immune functions. Methylnaltrexone, a peripherally acting µ-opioid receptor antagonist, may counteract these effects without changing analgesia.
Methods: This double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial included adult patients with AP and systemic inflammatory response syndrome at 4 Danish centers.

Background: Intrahepatic triacylglycerol (liver TG) content is associated with hepatic insulin resistance and dyslipidemia. Liver TG content can be modulated within days under hypocaloric conditions.
Objectives: We hypothesized that 4 d of eucaloric low-carbohydrate/high-fat (LC) intake would decrease liver TG content, whereas a high-carbohydrate/low-fat (HC) intake would increase liver TG content, and further that alterations in liver TG would be linked to dynamic changes in hepatic glucose and lipid metabolism.

Introduction: In orthopaedics, anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstructions are among the most common surgical interventions. Two methods are preferably used: autografts from the hamstring tendon (HT) or patella tendon (PT). The purpose of this meta-analysis was to compare these two methods when returning to sports.

While the diuretic effect of loop diuretics is well established, it remains unclear how furosemide influences pulmonary congestion and cardiac filling pressures in the hyperacute phase before significant diuresis occurs.
Methods: This was a prospective study of adult patients with AHF and objective signs of pulmonary congestion admitted to the cardiac ward.

Age-related white matter hyperintensities are a common feature and are known to be negatively associated with structural integrity, functional connectivity, and cognitive performance. However, this has yet to be fully understood mechanistically. We analyzed multiple MRI modalities acquired in 465 non-demented individuals from the Swedish BioFINDER study including 334 cognitively normal and 131 participants with mild cognitive impairment.

The diagnosis of multiple myeloma requires detection of paraproteinemia and confirmation of monoclonal bone marrow infiltration, along with signs of end-organ damage. Despite the increasing prevalence, serum paraproteinemia is not routinely measured. We examined the relationship between alterations in routine hematological parameters and the development of paraproteinemia in a case-control study.

Introduction: Diabetes is associated with dysregulated immune function and impaired cytokine release, while transient acute hyperglycaemia has been shown to enhance inflammatory cytokine release in preclinical studies. Although diabetes and acute hyperglycaemia are common among patients with community-acquired pneumonia (CAP), the impact of chronic, acute, and acute-on-chronic hyperglycaemia on the host response within this population remains poorly understood. This study investigated whether chronic, acute, and acute-on- chronic hyperglycaemia are associated with distinct mediators of inflammatory, endothelial, and angiogenic host response pathways in patients with CAP.

Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) is a severe disease that emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic. Although recognized as an immune-mediated condition, the pathogenesis remains unresolved. Furthermore, the absence of a diagnostic test can lead to delayed immunotherapy.

Background: Genetic testing can be used to evaluate disease risk. We evaluated if the use of three Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs), alone or combined into a genetic risk score (GRS), can aid identify significant fibrosis in subjects with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD).

Background: Comorbidity with type 2 diabetes (T2D) results in worsening of cancer-specific and overall prognosis in colorectal cancer (CRC) patients. The treatment of CRC per se may be diabetogenic. We assessed the impact of different types of surgical cancer resections and oncological treatment on risk of T2D development in CRC patients.

Background: Clinicians need thresholds for the Patient Acceptable Symptom State (PASS) and Treatment Failure to interpret group-based patient-reported outcome measures after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. Validated thresholds that are crucial for accurately discerning patient symptom state and facilitating effective interpretation have not been determined for long-term follow-up after ACL injury.
Purpose: To calculate and validate thresholds for PASS and Treatment Failure for the International Knee Documentation Committee Subjective Knee Form (IKDC-SKF) and the Knee injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS) subscales at the 10-year follow-up after ACL injury.

Whilst the exercise-induced myokine interleukin-6 (IL-6) plays a beneficial role in cardiac structural adaptations, its influence on exercise-induced functional cardiac outcomes remains unknown. We hypothesised that IL-6 activity is required for exercise-induced improvements in left ventricular global longitudinal strain (LV GLS). In an exploratory study 52 individuals with abdominal obesity were randomised to 12 weeks' high-intensity exercise or no exercise in combination with IL-6 receptor inhibition (IL-6i) or placebo.
