Aims: Therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) of infliximab (IFX) appears to be beneficial for patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). However, the recommended target concentrations depend partly on the method used to quantify IFX. Since we recently developed a liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry method to quantify IFX, we aimed to determine IFX trough concentrations (Cmin) associated with biological remission.

Background: Hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) is a rare neonatal condition affecting about 1‰ births. Despite a significant improvement in the management of this condition in the last ten years, HIE remains associated with high rates of death and severe neurological disability. From September 2015 to March 2017, a French national cohort of HIE cases was conducted to estimate the extent of long-term moderate and severe neurodevelopmental disability at 3 years and its determinants.

Background: Adalimumab (ADA) and infliximab (IFX) are therapeutic monoclonal antibodies targeting tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNFα). They are used to treat inflammatory diseases. Clinical trials have suggested that therapeutic drug monitoring for ADA or IFX could improve treatment response and cost effectiveness.

Article Synopsis
  • The EHRA survey aimed to understand what factors influence the choice between subcutaneous (S-ICD) and transvenous (TV-ICD) implantable cardioverter-defibrillators in patients across various European centers.
  • Conducted over eight weeks, the survey included 20 centers and 429 patients, revealing that most devices were implanted for primary prevention, with S-ICD use influenced by patient age, previous complications, and lifestyle preferences.
  • The main reasons for choosing TV-ICD included the need for antitachycardia pacing and requirements for cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) or pacing.

January 2018

Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, University Hospital Grenoble-Alpes, 38000 Grenoble, France; Lab LPNC, Grenoble-Alpes-University, 38000 Grenoble, France. Electronic address:

Objective: To describe the disability status of non-selected hospitalized persons.

Methods And Findings: We conducted a cross-sectional survey to assess activity limitations of every person older than 18 years hospitalized in a regional university hospital covering all medical fields. Evaluators rated, on a scale from 0 to 4, 22 selected items of the International Classification of Functioning (ICF), covering the 6 following domains: learning and applying knowledge, general tasks and demands, communication, mobility, self-care, and interpersonal interactions and relationships.

Objective: To investigate the short-term adverse events and effectiveness of lumacaftor/ivacaftor combination treatment in adults with cystic fibrosis (CF) and severe lung disease in a real life setting.

Methods: A multicentre observational study investigated adverse events, treatment discontinuation, FEV and body mass index (BMI) one month and three months after lumacaftor/ivacaftor initiation in adults with CF and FEV below 40% predicted.

Results: Respiratory adverse events (AEs) were reported by 27 of 53 subjects (51%) and 16 (30%) discontinued treatment.

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) colitis is uncommon in immunocompetent patients, despite a high seroprevalence rate of CMV in the general population. CMV infection has been described in individuals with compromised immune systems: in AIDS, under corticosteroid and immune modulating treatment, with cancer or haematological malignancies. Its most frequent clinical presentation is a necrotising ulcerative form; pseudotumoural CMV colitis has been described as highly exceptional.
