: Parenteral nutrition (PN) is used when enteral feeding is not possible. It is a complex mixture of nutrients that must meet a patient's needs but can face stability issues, such as lipid emulsion destabilisation and precipitate formation. Stability studies are complex, and the methodologies used are very varied in the literature.

Introduction: Endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) are essential for maintenance of vascular homeostasis and stability, key processes in the pathogenesis of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). However, the role and phenotypic characterization of EPCs populations in SLE have not been completely elucidated.
Objective: To identify EPCs specific subpopulations in patients with SLE using a novel flow cytometry tool.

(1) Background: Parenteral nutrition (PN) is a technique used for the administration of nutrients to patients for whom traditional routes cannot be used. It is performed using solutions with extremely complex compositions, which can give rise to a large number of interactions. These interactions can impact their stability and put the patient's life at risk.

Objective: To develop an improved score for prediction of severe infection in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), namely, the SLE Severe Infection Score-Revised (SLESIS-R) and to validate it in a large multicentre lupus cohort.
Methods: We used data from the prospective phase of RELESSER (RELESSER-PROS), the SLE register of the Spanish Society of Rheumatology. A multivariable logistic model was constructed taking into account the variables already forming the SLESIS score, plus all other potential predictors identified in a literature review.

(1) Background: parenteral nutrition (PN) solutions are an extremely complex mixture. It is composed of a multitude of chemical elements that can give rise to a large number of interactions that condition its stability and safety. The aim of this study was to evaluate the stability of PN solutions for preterm infants.

Disease modifying therapies (DMTs) used for treating people with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (pwRRMS) target the immune system by different mechanisms of action. However, there is a lack of a comprehensive assessment of their effects on the immune system in comparison to treatment-naïve pwRRMS. Herein, we evaluated the numbers of circulating B cells, CD4 and CD8 T cells, regulatory T cells (Tregs), natural killer (NK) cells and NKT cells, and their subsets, in pwRRMS who were treatment-naïve or treated with different DMTs.

Previous works from our group show that Semaphorin3B (Sema3B) is reduced in RA and plays a protective role in a mouse arthritis model. In turn, MerTK plays a protective function in murine arthritis models, is expressed by synovial tissue macrophages and is linked to remission in patients with RA. In this study, we examined the role of Sema3B in the phenotypic characteristics of RA macrophages and the implication of MerTK.

Murine models have played an indispensable role in the understanding of rheumatic and musculoskeletal disorders (RMD), elucidating the genetic, endocrine and biomechanical pathways involved in joint pathology and associated pain. To date, the available models in RMD can be classified as induced or spontaneous, both incorporating transgenic alternatives that improve specific insights. It is worth noting that the selection of the most appropriate model together with the evaluation of their specific characteristics and technical capabilities are crucial when designing the experiments.

Introduction: Probiotics are living microorganisms that act on the host-microbiome interface to restore the microbiota's physiological homeostasis. Numerous probiotics have been marketed with inhibitory activity against Streptococcus mutans and consequently with a potential anti-caries effect, mainly of the genera Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium, whose main disadvantage is their limited ability to settle in the oral cavity.
Methods: This narrative review describes the main Streptococcus spp.

Introduction: There are no published studies assessing the evolution of combined determination of the lung diffusing capacity for both nitric oxide and carbon monoxide (DL and DL) 12 months after the discharge of patients with COVID-19 pneumonia.
Methods: Prospective cohort study which included patients who were assessed both 3 and 12 months after an episode of SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia. Their clinical status, health condition, lung function testings (LFTs) results (spirometry, DL-DL analysis, and six-minute walk test), and chest X-ray/computed tomography scan images were compared.

The importance of circulating immune cells to primary progressive multiple sclerosis (PPMS) pathophysiology is still controversial because most immunotherapies were shown to be ineffective in treating people with PPMS (pwPPMS). Yet, although controversial, data exist describing peripheral immune system alterations in pwPPMS. This study aims to investigate which alterations might be present in pwPPMS free of disease-modifying drugs (DMD) in comparison to age- and sex-matched healthy controls.

Background: Personalized precision medicine represents a paradigm shift and a new reality for the health care system in Spain, with training being fundamental for its full implementation and application in clinical practice. In this sense, health care professionals face educational challenges related to the acquisition of competencies to perform their professional practice optimally and efficiently in this new environment. The definition of competencies for health care professionals provides a clear guide on the level of knowledge, skills, and attitudes required to adequately carry out their professional practice.

Objective: Class 3 semaphorins are reduced in the synovial tissue of RA patients and these proteins are involved in the pathogenesis of the disease. The aim of this study was to identify the transcription factors involved in the expression of class 3 semaphorins in the synovium of RA patients.
Methods: Protein and mRNA expression in synovial tissue from RA and individuals at risk (IAR) patients, human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) and RA fibroblast-like synoviocytes (FLS) was determined by ELISA, immunoblotting and quantitative PCR.

Introduction: Silicosis is an irreversible and incurable disease. Preventive measures to eliminate exposure are the only effective way to reduce morbidity and mortality. In such situations, having a biomarker for early diagnosis or to predict evolution would be very useful in order to improve control of the disease.
