Glioblastoma (GB) is a devastating tumor of the central nervous system characterized by a poor prognosis. One of the best-established predictive biomarker in IDH-wildtype GB is O6-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase (MGMT) methylation (mMGMT), which is associated with improved treatment response and survival. However, current efforts to monitor GB patients through mMGMT detection have proven unsuccessful.

Quantification of Adaptive Immune Responses Against Protein-Binding Interfaces in the Streptococcal M1 Protein.

Mol Cell Proteomics

May 2024

Faculty of Medicine, Division of Infection Medicine, Department of Clinical Sciences, Lund University, Lund, Sweden. Electronic address:

Bacterial or viral antigens can contain subdominant protein regions that elicit weak antibody responses upon vaccination or infection although there is accumulating evidence that antibody responses against subdominant regions can enhance the protective immune response. One proposed mechanism for subdominant protein regions is the binding of host proteins that prevent antibody production against epitopes hidden within the protein binding interfaces. Here, we used affinity purification combined with quantitative mass spectrometry (AP-MS) to examine the level of competition between antigen-specific antibodies and host-pathogen protein interaction networks using the M1 protein from Streptococcus pyogenes as a model system.

Stereotactic body radiation therapy for kidney cancer. Where do we stand?

Int J Urol

May 2023

Radiation Oncology Department, GenesisCare Madrid Clinical Director, San Francisco de Asis and La Milagrosa Hospitals, National Chair of Research and Clinical Trials, GenesisCare, Madrid, Spain.

At present, surgery is still the gold standard for the local treatment of renal cancer. Nonetheless, in several clinical scenarios, stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) also known as stereotactic ablative body radiotherapy (SABR) is emerging as a highly effective ablative technique in fragile patients and those with significant comorbidities, as well as in cases where percutaneous therapy (cryoablation or radiofrequency) is not viable. However, considering the intrinsic radioresistance of renal tumors, the optimal treatment schemes have not been established.
