Background: In 2021, the EAU Guidelines implemented a novel, expert opinion-based follow-up scheme, with a three-risk-category system for clear cell (cc) and non-cc renal cell carcinoma (non-ccRCC) after surgery with curative intent. We aimed to validate the novel follow-up scheme and provide data-driven recurrence estimates according to risk groups, to confirm or implement the oncologic surveillance strategy.
Methods: We identified 5,320 patients from a prospectively maintained database involving 28 French referral centers.

Background: The war in Ukraine provides purposefully anesthesiologists and intensivists with important data for improving the management of trauma patients. This scoping review aims to investigate the specific management of war-related trauma patients, during the war in Ukraine, through an objective and comprehensive analysis.
Methods: A comprehensive search of the Embase, Medline, and Open Grey databases from 2014 to February 2024 yielded studies focusing on anesthesia and surgery.

Background: Opioid-free anesthesia is increasingly being adopted to reduce opioid consumption, but its impact on early postoperative recovery after major surgery has not been evaluated in comparative trials. The hypothesis was that an opioid-free anesthesia protocol would enhance the early quality of recovery for patients undergoing scheduled major surgery under general anesthesia.
Methods: The SOFA study was a monocentric, randomized, controlled, assessor- and patient-blinded clinical trial conducted from July 10, 2021, to February 12, 2022.

Purpose: Intramuscular capillary-type hemangiomas (ICTHs) are rare entities, belonging to the group of intramuscular "hemangiomas." The diagnosis remains challenging. We aimed to assess the diagnostic criteria, treatments and outcomes of ICTHs.

After failure of first line FOLFOX-bevacizumab for metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC), adding either bevacizumab or aflibercept to second-line FOLFIRI increases survival compared to FOLFIRI alone. In this French retrospective multicentre cohort, we included patients with a mCRC treated with either FOLFIRI-aflibercept or FOLFIRI-bevacizumab. The primary endpoint was overall survival (OS), and secondary endpoints were progression-free survival (PFS), disease control rate (DCR: CR + PR + SD) and safety.

Background And Aims: In Crohn's disease (CD), a composite therapeutic target was recently recommended, including both objective measurement (endoscopic remission) and Patient-Reported Outcomes (resolution of abdominal pain and normalization of bowel function). All dimensions of health-related quality of life (HRQoL) are impacted: not only bowel symptoms but also systemic symptoms, emotional wellbeing and social function. Thus, understanding the predictors of each HRQoL dimension would improve patient management.

Background: Heterogeneous data have been reported on high-dose chemotherapy (HDCT) with autologous stem cell rescue (ASCR) in Wilms tumors (WTs). We aimed to define its safety and efficacy in the French cohort, and to compare this management to current international recommendations.
Methods: Data prospectively collected from children, adolescents, and young adults with WT treated with HDCT/ASCR between 2000 and 2016 in French centers were retrospectively analyzed.

Although virus-negative Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) is characterized by a high frequency of UV-induced mutations, the expression of two viral oncoproteins is regarded as a key mechanism driving Merkel cell polyomavirus‒positive MCC. The cells in which these molecular events initiate MCC oncogenesis have yet not been identified for both MCC subsets. A considerable proportion of virus-negative MCC is found in association with squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), suggesting (i) coincidental collision, (ii) one providing a niche for the other, or (iii) one evolving from the other.

New treatments are needed to protect the myocardium against the detrimental effects of acute ischaemia/reperfusion (IR) injury following an acute myocardial infarction (AMI), in order to limit myocardial infarct (MI) size, preserve cardiac function and prevent the onset of heart failure (HF). Given the critical role of mitochondria in energy production for cardiac contractile function, prevention of mitochondrial dysfunction during acute myocardial IRI may provide novel cardioprotective strategies. In this regard, the mitochondrial fusion and fissions proteins, which regulate changes in mitochondrial morphology, are known to impact on mitochondrial quality control by modulating mitochondrial biogenesis, mitophagy and the mitochondrial unfolded protein response.

Purpose: PIK3CA-related overgrowth spectrum (PROS) encompasses a range of debilitating conditions defined by asymmetric overgrowth caused by mosaic activating PIK3CA variants. PIK3CA encodes the p110α catalytic subunit of phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase (PI3K), a critical transducer of growth factor signaling. As mTOR mediates the growth-promoting actions of PI3K, we hypothesized that the mTOR inhibitor sirolimus would slow pathological overgrowth.

Background: Slow-flow superficial vascular malformations (VMs) are rare congenital anomalies that can be responsible for pain and functional impairment. Currently, we have no guidelines for their management, which can involve physical bandages, sclerotherapy, surgery, anti-inflammatory or anti-coagulation drugs or no treatment. The natural history is progressive and worsening.

Tuberculosis (TB) is a leading infectious cause of death worldwide. The use of ethionamide (ETH), a main second line anti-TB drug, is hampered by its severe side effects. Recently discovered "booster" molecules strongly increase the ETH efficacy, opening new perspectives to improve the current clinical outcome of drug-resistant TB.
