Hands-on courses utilizing preserved human tissues for educational training offer an important pathway to acquire basic anatomical knowledge. Owing to the reevaluation of formaldehyde limits by the European Commission, a joint approach was chosen by the German-speaking anatomies in Europe (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) to find commonalities among embalming protocols and infrastructure. A survey comprising 537 items was circulated to all anatomies in German-speaking Europe.

Clinically relevant postoperative pancreatic fistula (CR-POPF) can significantly affect the treatment course and outcome in pancreatic cancer patients. Preoperative prediction of CR-POPF can aid the surgical decision-making process and lead to better perioperative management of patients. In this retrospective study of 108 pancreatic head resection patients, we present risk models for the prediction of CR-POPF that use combinations of preoperative computed tomography (CT)-based radiomic features, mesh-based volumes of annotated intra- and peripancreatic structures and preoperative clinical data.

Objective: Follow-up evaluation of the addiction therapy part of the multimodal treatment program "Mama Denk an mich" ("Mummy, think of me"), an interdisciplinary cooperation of several departments of the University Hospital Dresden with the local youth welfare offices and addiction counseling centers.

Method: Description of treatment course and sample of the first 100 patients with a methamphetamine-related disorder and prospective observational study of treatment outcome.

Results: Besides a high proportion of first-time treated subjects (51%) and a young mean age (29 years), the sample was notable for precarious socioeconomic conditions and numerous comorbidities.

This registered clinical trial sought to validate a laboratory test system devised to screen medications for alcoholism treatment (TESMA) under different contingencies of alcohol reinforcement. Forty-six nondependent, but at least medium-risk drinkers were given the opportunity to earn intravenous infusions of ethanol, or saline, as rewards for work in a progressive-ratio paradigm. Work demand pattern and alcohol exposure dynamics were devised to achieve a gradual shift from low-demand work for alcohol (WFA) permitting quickly increasing breath alcohol concentrations (BrAC) to high-demand WFA, which could only decelerate an inevitable decrease of the previously earned BrAC.

Adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) is a rare endocrine malignancy with a high risk of relapse and metastatic spread. The actin-bundling protein fascin (FSCN1) is overexpressed in aggressive ACC and represents a reliable prognostic indicator. FSCN1 has been shown to synergize with VAV2, a guanine nucleotide exchange factor for the Rho/Rac GTPase family, to enhance the invasion properties of ACC cancer cells.

Background And Aims: The European Atherosclerosis Society (EAS) Lipid Clinics Network promoted a survey in order to identify and understand how and when lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] is tested and clinically evaluated in lipid clinics throughout Europe, and the challenges that may prevent evaluation from being carried out.

Methods: This survey was divided into three areas of inquiry: background and clinical setting information of clinicians, questions for doctors who claimed not to measure Lp(a), in order to understand what were the reasons for not ordering the test, and questions for doctors who measure Lp(a), to investigate the use of this value in the management of patients.

Results: A total of 151 centres clinicians filled in the survey, out of 226 invited.

As the key enzyme mediating ribonucleotide excision repair, RNase H2 is essential for the removal of single ribonucleotides from DNA in order to prevent genome damage. Loss of RNase H2 activity directly contributes to the pathogenesis of autoinflammatory and autoimmune diseases and might further play a role in ageing and neurodegeneration.
