The aim of this study was to determine the presence of (ChT) and (NG) in the genital tract of women with ectopic pregnancy and to compare the positive results with patients' self-reported history of PID. Overall 40 women were eligible for the study. The samples for the ChT and NG Polymerase Chain-reaction (PCR) detection were obtained from the cervix, endometrium and fallopian tube.

Successful treatment of refractory status asthmaticus with omalizumab: a case report.

Refractory status asthmaticus is the cause of rare cases of in-hospital death due to acute bronchial asthma. The most severe cases unresponsive to first, second and next line treatment may be fatal despite aggressive organ support with invasive ventilation and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. Omalizumab, a humanized recombinant monoclonal anti-IgE antibody, is an approved add-on biological treatment for severe asthma.

Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) are chronic disorders of the gastrointestinal tract that have been linked to microbiome dysbiosis and immune system dysregulation. We investigated the longitudinal effect of anti-TNF therapy on gut microbiota composition and specific immune response to commensals in IBD patients. The study included 52 patients tracked over 38 weeks of therapy and 37 healthy controls (HC).

Not Just a 'Breath of Death': Indirect Consequences of Working in a COVID-19 Unit.

We carried out a survey in the Czech Republic between January and February 2021 to evaluate the impact of COVID-19 on doctors working in the COVID-19 unit. A rise in 250,000 cases were seen in the Czech Republic during the time of the survey. The indirect impact of the disease on doctors working in COVID-19 units and strategies to control the situation in the Czech Republic were evaluated here.

Strategy of pulseless pink supracondylar humerus fracture treatment in children: a comparison of two approaches.

Purpose: The appropriate treatment of pulseless pink supracondylar humerus fractures (SCHF) remains controversial. In this study, the outcomes of two treatment approaches (with and without vascular surgery) were compared.

Material And Methods: This was a retrospective multicenter study of patients with pulseless pink SCHFs treated in ten pediatric surgery, trauma, or orthopedics departments in the Czech and Slovak Republic between 2014 and 2018.

Methods: A prospective study in 150 patients with stage IA1-IB2 cervical cancer treated by uterine surgery with bilateral SLN biopsy. Uterine artery pseudoaneurysm in pregnant women with previous pelvic endometriosis.

Uterine artery pseudoaneurysm (UAP) is a rare complication during pregnancy that can cause serious consequences in both the pregnant woman and the fetus. Herein, we have described the cases of two pregnant women with UAP. Both patients had a history of laparoscopy for management of endometrioid ovarian cysts.

Analysis of Gene Expression of Pseudoarthrosis Tissue in Congenital Short Femur, Initial Study and First Exprerience.

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY Although the congenital short femur is morphologically well characterized, changes at the molecular level have not been described in the literature so far. The absence of such information, along with the unknown aetiology of the defect, was the motivation for analysing angiogenesis and osteogenesis in the pseudoarthrosis (false joint) tissue in PFFD patients compared to physiological bone. The authors expected differences in gene expression, particularly in the quantity of expressed genes.

Objectives: The technique of meshed skin grafting is known since 1960s. It was shown that there is a difference between the declared and real expansion ratio of the skin meshed graft. We hypothesize that the orientation of the Langer's lines in a split thickness skin graft is a key parameter in the resulting expansion ratio.

Oral vinorelbine plus cisplatin as first-line chemotherapy in nonsquamous non-small-cell lung cancer: final results of an International randomized phase II study (NAVotrial 01).

Background: The combination of oral vinorelbine plus cisplatin has been studied in numerous trials as first-line treatment of patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) regardless of histologic subtype. NAVoTrial 01 is the first study that explores this combination specifically in nonsquamous (NS) NSCLC by assessing the feasibility of this doublet (ratio 1:2) in an investigational approach. A reference arm with pemetrexed plus cisplatin was included.

Economic evaluation of rFVIIa high initial dose compared to rFVIIa standard initial dose in patients with haemophilia with inhibitors using the Czech HemoRec registry.

Introduction: In the treatment of bleeds in haemophilia patients with inhibitors, a high initial dose of recombinant Factor VIIa (rFVIIa) provides at least equal efficacy and a similar safety profile to a standard initial dose. However, no pharmacoeconomic comparison between these dosing regimens has previously been performed. Here, we assess the pharmacoeconomics of high (>120 μg/kg) versus standard (≤120 μg/kg) initial rFVIIa dose in inhibitor patients and the impact of time to treatment initiation on costs and outcomes.

Comparison of the short-term and long-term results of the Ponseti method in the treatment of idiopathic pes equinovarus.

Purpose: Congenital club foot is one of the most common birth defects involving the musculoskeletal system. At present two methods are used for the treatment of this deformity: French and Ponseti method. The purpose of this study was to compare the short-term (up to three years) and long-term (three to seven years) results of treatment with the Ponseti method.

Electron microscopy in the diagnosis of viral gastroenteritis in hospitalised children in the Czech Republic.

Our study has been aimed at demonstrating the main role of viruses in the aetiology of acute gastroenteritis in children less than 5 years old and at pointing out the diagnostic potential of electron microscopy in the diagnosis of viral gastroenteritis. A prospective study was conducted to analyse the aetiology of diarrhoeal diseases in children less than 5 years of age admitted to the Department of Infectious Diseases between September 2006 and December 2008. All children were tested by faecal culture, latex agglutination and electron microscopy.

Down-regulated expression of apoptosis-associated genes APIP and UACA in non-small cell lung carcinoma.

The Apaf-1 interacting protein (APIP) and the uveal autoantigen with coiled coil domains and ankyrin repeats (UACA) belong to endogenous regulators of the apoptosome apparatus, but their role in tumourigenesis and progression of non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) is not known. Previous studies demonstrated that APIP inhibits the apoptosome-mediated procaspase-9 activation while UACA induces translocation of Apaf-1 from the cytoplasm into the nucleus. Here, we report for the first time that the expression of APIP and UACA genes is down-regulated on the level of both mRNA and protein in NSCLC cells and tumours.

The maintenance of tissue homeostasis and highly balanced counteraction of cellular proliferation and apoptosis are essential for tissue integrity. In our study, we evaluated the expression of apoptosis- regulating proteins Bcl-2, Bax and PARP, and executive apoptotic enzyme caspase-3 in normal, atrophic, hyperplastic and cancerous endometrium. In common practice, toxoplasmosis may be a source of frequent diagnostic and therapeutic dilemmas. Three case reports are presented, illustrating the most frequent 'non-standard" situations resulting in erroneous interpretation of findings and therapeutic decisions. The first case was false or non-specific positivity of antibodies of several classes, leading to a heavy mental burden and wrong prenatal therapy in a pregnant patient.
