Introduction: Primary hyperoxaluria (PH) is a devastating disease in children and adults. Recently, a substantial progress in the treatment of this deadly disease has been made that consists of the introduction of the RNA inhibitors, lumasiran and nedosiran, which deplete the substrate for oxalate synthesis.
Methods: Lanthanum carbonate (Lanth.
Adults with kidney failure receiving dialysis frequently report high symptom burden that can limit life participation and decrease the quality of life. Fatigue, itch, pain, anxiety, depressive symptoms, sleep problems, nausea, vomiting, muscle cramps, breathlessness, and decreased cognition can negatively impact important daily activities. Nurses are the majority health professional group that provides care for people receiving dialysis and have a major role in managing these symptoms.

Secretariat of the European Access Academy (EAA), 4059 Basel, Switzerland.
Background: We examined four potential challenges for the implementation of the European Union (EU) Regulation 2021/2282 on Health Technology Assessment (EU HTAR): interaction with the European Medicines Agency (EMA), expert input, the interface of European health technology assessment (EU HTA) joint procedures with those within Member States, and the management of conflict of interest. This research aims to explore how to address these challenges in a balanced manner and prioritise key actions for effective collaboration in the context of the EU HTA.
Methods: The methodology included a pre-convention survey among relevant stakeholders as well as working groups and the plenary ranking of discussion outcomes at the European Access Academy (EAA) Spring Convention 2024.

Management of bleeding in persons with hemophilia and inhibitors involves treatment with bypassing agents, including recombinant activated factor VII (rFVIIa). Two rFVIIa products are commercially approved for use in the United States and the European Union. Eptacog alfa and eptacog beta share the same amino acid sequence but differ in posttranslational modifications.

Background: Standard of care (SoC) assessment based on computed tomography (CT) and/or transesophageal echocardiography is suboptimal for adequate preprocedural evaluation for left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO). This can be improved through CT-based 3D computational modeling of the LAA-device interaction using FEops HEARTguide. This study aims to assess the decisional impact of FEops in preprocedural planning for LAAO.

Objectives: Gastroscopy is used to examine the upper gastrointestinal (GI) tract, but no validated method yet exists to assess the quality of mucosal visualization in children. Utilizing validated endoscopic scales can enhance study quality and standardization across centers. This study aimed to validate the existing Toronto Upper Gastrointestinal Cleaning Score (TUGCS) in pediatric patients.

Musculoskeletal disorders are a significant public health burden concern, projected to increase in the coming decades, and will substantially contribute to the rising prevalence of functional impairment, frailty and disability in a growing global population. Since persons with musculoskeletal disorders tend to have immune dysfunction, inflammation or be taking immunosuppressive medication, prevention of vaccine-preventable diseases (VPDs) in this group is particularly important. The European Interdisciplinary Council for Aging (EICA) and the European Society for Clinical and Economic Aspects of Osteoporosis, Osteoarthritis and Musculoskeletal Diseases (ESCEO) jointly convened a 2-day in-person and virtual meeting on 26-27 September 2023, to review the state of the evidence on the link between musculoskeletal diseases, infections and vaccines.

A new era of medicine and surgery began in the mid-16th century, driven by upheavals in religion, art, and science as well as advancements in printing. Two notable contributions were the clinical applications of Andreas Vesalius's anatomy and the surgical innovations of Ambroise Paré. Vesalius and Paré were contemporaries, overlapping in their education, anatomic interests, military experience, professional stature, and visionary use of anatomical illustrations.

Objectives: Standard chemoradiation (CRT) treatment for cervical cancer was disrupted in Botswana during the COVID-19 pandemic. Patients were prescribed induction chemotherapy (IC) to bridge delays to radiotherapy (RT) or CRT (IC + RT/CRT).
Methods: This prospective observational study compared outcomes of locally advanced cervical cancer patients who received IC + RT/CRT (n = 67) between 2019 and 2022 to historical controls who received CRT (n = 169) between 2014 and 2019.

Purpose: Therapeutic depletion of immunosuppressive regulatory T cells (Treg) may overcome resistance to cancer immunotherapies. RG6292 is an anti-CD25 antibody that preferentially depletes Tregs while preserving effector T-cell functions in preclinical models. The safety, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and antitumor efficacy of selective Treg depletion by RG6292 administered as monotherapy or in combination with atezolizumab were evaluated in two phase I studies.

The early detection, diagnosis, anticipation, and therapy of infections to prevent sepsis and septic shock remain significant challenges in cases of grave burns. This narrative review explores various tools for early infection detection, including emerging biomarkers, the American Burn Association's clinical criteria, and traditional blood parameters. A comparative study of the American Burn Association, Mann-Salinas, and Sepsis-3 criteria highlights the superior early detection capabilities of the Sepsis-3 criteria.

Patients with liver disease experience complex haemostatic changes leading to a state of 'rebalanced haemostasis' that may shift towards bleeding or thrombosis due to complications like kidney dysfunction, bacterial infection, or acute-on-chronic liver failure. Traditional coagulation tests inadequately capture haemostasis in cirrhosis, whereas advanced assays like thrombin generation assay and viscoelastic testing offer better insights but remain limited in clinical outcome prediction or guiding pre-procedural prophylaxis.Contrary to the traditional view of cirrhosis as a bleeding disorder, recent evidence highlights a paradox of higher venous thromboembolism incidence in hospitalised cirrhotic patients.

Introduction: Botulism is a rare but potentially life-threatening syndrome caused by botulinum neurotoxin. The classic presentation of botulism is the acute onset of bilateral cranial neuropathies associated with symmetric descending weakness. The antitoxin is the main therapeutic option for botulism, in addition to supportive care with intubation and mechanical ventilation when necessary.

Background & Aims: This study used the Global Burden of Disease data (2010-2021) to analyze the rates and trends of point prevalence, annual incidence, and years lived with disability (YLDs) for metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) in 204 countries.
Methods: Total numbers and age-standardized rates per 100,000 population for MASLD prevalence, annual incidence, and YLDs were compared across regions and countries by age, sex, and sociodemographic index (SDI). Smoothing spline models were used to evaluate the relationship between the burden of MASLD and SDI.

Methods: We performed a secondary analysis of NECTARINE, which included infants up to 60 weeks' postmenstrual age undergoing anaesthesia for surgical or diagnostic procedures.
