Background: The biomechanical effects of joint-line medialization during shoulder surgery are poorly understood. It was therefore the purpose of this study to investigate whether medialization of the joint line especially associated with total shoulder arthroplasty leads to changes in the rotator cuff muscle forces required to stabilize the arm in space.

Methods: A quantitative neuroimaging approach employing a multiparametric mapping protocol was used, providing indirect measures of myelination (via contrasts such as magnetisation transfer (MT) saturation, longitudinal relaxation (R1)) and iron content (via effective transverse relaxation rate (R2*)) was used to track microstructural changes within nociceptive pathways. Athletic performance relies on tendons, which enable movement by transferring forces from muscles to the skeleton. Yet, how load-bearing structures in tendons sense and adapt to physical demands is not understood. Here, by performing calcium (Ca) imaging in mechanically loaded tendon explants from rats and in primary tendon cells from rats and humans, we show that tenocytes detect mechanical forces through the mechanosensitive ion channel PIEZO1, which senses shear stresses induced by collagen-fibre sliding.

Case: The ulcerated recurrent clear cell sarcoma of the forearm with bony invasion of the radius needed an uncontaminated resection and control of infection. A mold was printed based on CT-reconstructed 3D models of the patient's anatomy to create an antibiotic-loaded cement spacer as endoprosthetic replacement used in combination with soft-tissue reconstruction and systemic antibiotics.

Conclusion: This then undescribed novel technique allowed for fast local recovery of the patient's hand function and return to work.

Previous studies comparing laser (LEPs) and contact heat evoked potentials (CHEPs) consistently reported higher amplitudes following laser compared to contact heat stimulation. However, none of the studies matched the perceived pain intensity, questioning if the observed difference in amplitude is due to biophysical differences between the two methods or a mismatch in stimulation intensity. Bone drilling is an essential part of orthopedic surgery and has a high risk of injuring vital structures when over-drilling into adjacent soft tissue. We acquired a dataset consisting of structure-borne audio recordings of drill breakthrough sequences with custom piezo contact microphones in an experimental setup using six human cadaveric hip specimens.
