Antiapoptotic Bcl-2 family proteins are involved in myeloma cell survival. To date, their expression in multiple myeloma (MM) patients has mostly been analyzed at the RNA level. In the present study, we quantified for the first time the protein expression of the Bcl2-family members using a capillary electrophoresis immunoassay in 120 newly diagnosed MM patients, aged ≤65 years, treated in the context of the PETHEMA/GEM2012 study.

Background: De-escalation of axillary surgery in breast cancer (BC) patients diminishes sequelae without compromising cancer outcomes. Surgical management of the axilla is challenging after neoadjuvant treatment. We aimed to identify the factors associated with residual axillary disease amenable to lymphadenectomy in patients with positive sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB).

Introduction: Biomarker-informed criteria were proposed for the diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease (AD) by the National Institute on Aging and the Alzheimer's Association (NIA-AA) in 2011; however, the adequacy of this criteria has not been sufficiently evaluated.
Methods: ReDeMa () is a regional cohort of patients attending memory and neurology clinics. Core cerebrospinal fluid biomarkers were obtained, NIA-AA diagnostic criteria were considered, and changes in diagnosis and management were evaluated.

Background Establishing surgical criteria for aortic valve replacement (AVR) in severe aortic regurgitation in young adults is challenging due to the lack of evidence-based recommendations. We studied indications for AVR in young adults with severe aortic regurgitation and their outcomes, as well as the relationship between presurgical echocardiographic parameters and postoperative left ventricular (LV) size, function, clinical events, and valve-related complications. Methods and Results Data were collected retrospectively on 172 consecutive adult patients who underwent AVR or repair for severe aortic regurgitation between 2005 and 2019 in a tertiary cardiac center (age at surgery 29 [22-41] years, 81% male).

Vascular endothelial growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitors (VEGFR-TKIs) are key antiangiogenic drugs for renal cancer treatment. While Von Hippel-Lindau dysfunction constitutes the base for VEGFR-TKIs sensitivity, the role for individual and concurrent mutations in the genes encoding for the chromatin remodelers Polybromo-1 () and Lysine Demethylase 5C () is poorly understood. Here, we analyzed the tumor mutational and expression profiles of 155 unselected clear cell RCC (ccRCC) cases treated with first-line VEGFR-TKIs and the ccRCC cases of IMmotion151 trial were used for validation.

Introduction: Endometrial scratching (ES) is a simple technique that has been claimed to improve pregnancy rates in patients undergoing assisted reproduction techniques. Our objective was to acknowledge the effects of ES in subsequent embryo transfers by assessing the cumulative live birth rates (LBR) in patients undergoing egg-donor in vitro fertilization (IVF).
Material And Methods: We performed a follow-up analysis of the cumulative reproductive outcomes of the 352 patients included in the Endoscratch Trial (NCT03108157) during the twelve months following the randomization date.

Aims: To analyze the incidence of type 2 diabetes (T2D) in Central Spain and its association with the socioeconomic status (SES), educational level, and other risk factors (RF) in the elderly population of three communities.
Methods: Data for 5278 elderly participants (≥65 years old) were obtained using a census population-based survey. There was a first and a second survey three years later.
Background: Neurological manifestations of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) are being widely documented. However, movement disorders in the setting of 2019 coronavirus infectious disease (COVID-19) have been a strikingly less discussed topic.
Objectives: To summarize available pieces of evidence documenting de novo movement disorders in COVID-19.

Objective: To analyze histological factors possibly associated with lymphovascular space invasion (LVSI) and to determine which of those can act as independent surrogate markers.
Methods: Retrospective cohort study performed between January 2001 and December 2014. LVSI was defined as the presence of tumor cells inside a space completely surrounded by endothelial cells.

Objective: Although the cerebello-thalamo-cortical network has often been suggested to be of importance in the pathogenesis of essential tremor (ET), the origins of tremorgenic activity in this disease are not fully understood. We used a combination of cortical thickness imaging and neurophysiological studies to analyze whether the severity of tremor was associated with anatomical changes in the brain in ET patients
Methods: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and a neurophysiological assessment were performed in 13 nondemented ET patients. High field structural brain MRI images acquired in a 3T scanner and analyses of cortical thickness and surface were carried out.

Exosomes are microvesicles released by cells in both physiological and pathological situations. They are surrounded by a lipid bilayer with proteins derived from the origin cell, and contain a variety of molecules, such as nucleic acids. They represent an emerging mechanism of intercellular communication, and they play an important role in the pathogenesis of cancer, stimulating proliferation and aggressiveness of cancer cells, inducing a microenvironment favorable to tumor development and controlling immune responses.

To date, it remains largely unknown whether there is in radiologically isolated syndrome (RIS) brain damage beyond visible T2 white matter lesions. We used single- voxel proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy and diffusion tensor imaging (3 T MRI) to analyze normal-appearing brain tissue regions in 18 RIS patients and 18 matched healthy controls. T2-hyperintense lesion volumes and structural brain volumes were also measured.

Alterations in the function of DNA repair genes may affect DNA repair proficiency and influence cancer patients' response to cisplatin. We studied whether single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of DNA repair genes predict the response to cisplatin or prognosis in patients with squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (SCCHN).
