: Acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF) is a condition with a high frequency of hospitalizations and mortality, and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a common comorbidity. Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy at home can be a good adjunctive non-drug therapy for these patients. : We conducted a single-center, prospective cohort study from 150 consecutive patients hospitalized for heart failure exacerbation in the cardiology department.

In people with cancer, multiple primary malignant neoplasms (MPMNs) are not unusual, and they may be caused by risk factors such as genetics, viral infection, smoking, environmental factors, or treatment-related variables. The frequency of MPMNs occurring in the same or separate organ systems is between 2% and 17%. The 5-year breast cancer survivors have been found to have around 3.

Scope: Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a ubiquitous opportunistic pathogen considered one of the paradigms of antimicrobial resistance, is among the main causes of hospital-acquired and chronic infections associated with significant morbidity and mortality. This growing threat results from the extraordinary capacity of P. aeruginosa to develop antimicrobial resistance through chromosomal mutations, the increasing prevalence of transferable resistance determinants (such as the carbapenemases and the extended-spectrum β-lactamases), and the global expansion of epidemic lineages.

A considerable portion of the world's population practices fasting, for religious purposes like Ramadan or to adopt a healthier lifestyle such as intermittent fasting. During this period, individuals undergo metabolic changes that alter their internal environment. The literature was analysed to identify a possible relationship between fasting and the development of -induced peptic ulcers.

Endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) is the standard of care for the complete removal of large (≥ 10 mm) nonpedunculated colorectal polyps (LNPCPs). Increased detection of LNPCPs owing to screening colonoscopy, plus high observed rates of incomplete resection and need for surgery call for a standardized approach to training in EMR. 1 : Trainees in EMR should have achieved basic competence in diagnostic colonoscopy, < 10-mm polypectomy, pedunculated polypectomy, and common methods of gastrointestinal endoscopic hemostasis.

Sleep disorders are a common concomitant comorbidity in patients with heart failure. The aims of our study are to determine the incidence and phenotypic characteristics of sleep apnea in overweight patients with exacerbated heart failure and to assess the degree of involvement of systolic and diastolic function impairment in the individual group. From 100 screened patients with heart failure in our department from 2015 to 2017, 61 met the inclusion criteria and participated in the study.

Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) is a condition affecting as much as 16% of the adult population in developed countries with many factors attributed to its development, including the more recently proposed role of bacterial biofilm infections. Plenty of research has been conducted on biofilms in CRS and the causes behind the development of such an infection in the nasal cavity and sinuses. One such probable cause is the production of mucin glycoproteins by the mucosa of the nasal cavity.

BACKGROUND : Optimal training strategies in endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) remain controversial despite the shift toward competence-based training models, with limited data available on patient safety during training. We aimed to assess whether pre-procedural clinical predictors could identify patients at low risk of developing procedure-related adverse-events (AEs) in a training environment. METHODS : We performed a prospective, multicenter, cohort study in five training centers.

Background: Epigenetic modifications of genomes are of particular interest as numerous studies indicate the correlation between DNA methylation and the development of systemic lupus. As a major methyl group donor, folic acid is an important participant in this process. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of low or high dose folate co-culturing with peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) on the secretion of interleukin (IL)10 from regulatory cells from lupus patients or from healthy volunteers.

According to the American Academy of Neurology 2011 guidelines, there is insufficient evidence to support or refute the use of therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) for myasthenia gravis (MG). The goal of this study was to determine whether a novel nanomembrane-based TPE could be useful in the treatment of MG. Thirty-six adult patients, MGFA 4/4B and 5, with acute MG episodes were enrolled into a single-center retrospective before-and-after study to compare a conventional treatment group ( = 24) with a nanomembrane-based TPE group ( = 12).

Colon capsule endoscopy (CCE) is an alternative to conventional colonoscopy (CC) in specific clinical settings. High completion rates (CRs) and adequate cleanliness rates (ACRs) are fundamental quality parameters if CCE is to be widely implemented as a CC equivalent diagnostic modality. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to investigate the efficacy of different bowel preparations regimens on CR and ACR in CCE.

Background: In chronic diarrhea patients, massive over-reporting symptom-based criteria for functional bowel disorders are pitfalls. There is currently no objective biomarker that may provide a correct correlation with the severity of chronic diarrhea. To clarify the role of fibroblast growth factor-19 (FGF-19) as a biomarker of objective measurements of the severity of diarrhea in comparison with a patientreported outcome, based on the Bristol Stool Form (BSF) Scale.

The clinical manifestations of neurological complications associated with varicella zoster virus (VZV) are non-specific and indistinguishable from those of other viral infections. Therefore, the definite diagnosis requires evidence of VZV infection in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). The aim of this study was to determine the frequency of VZV DNA detection in CSF of patients with neurological diseases in order to obtain information concerning involvement of VZV infection in neuropathology in the country.

Introduction: Microscopic colitis is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease characterised by normal or almost normal endoscopic appearance of the colon, chronic watery, nonbloody diarrhoea and distinct histological abnormalities, which identify three histological subtypes, the collagenous colitis, the lymphocytic colitis and the incomplete microscopic colitis. With ongoing uncertainties and new developments in the clinical management of microscopic colitis, there is a need for evidence-based guidelines to improve the medical care of patients suffering from this disorder.
Methods: Guidelines were developed by members from the European Microscopic Colitis Group and United European Gastroenterology in accordance with the Appraisal of Guidelines for Research and Evaluation II instrument.
