Background: Structured reporting (SR) in radiology has been recognized recently by major scientific societies. This study aims to build structured computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance (MR)-based reports in pancreatic adenocarcinoma during the staging phase in order to improve communication between the radiologist and members of multidisciplinary teams.

Materials And Methods: A panel of expert radiologists, members of the Italian Society of Medical and Interventional Radiology, was established.

The effect of benzodiazepines on exercise in healthy adult participants: A systematic review.

The use of benzodiazepines among athletes is a new and growing phenomenon according to the recent case reports published. Therefore, there is an urgent need to identify if there is rationale for the use of benzodiazepines and its effects on exercise. This review aims to provide an overview of the effects of benzodiazepine in exercise among healthy adult participants and if they might have an additional ergogenic or ergolytic effect.

State-of-the-art surgical treatment of IPMNs.

Background: A "pandemic" of incidentally discovered pancreatic cyst neoplasms (PCNs) is ongoing. Among PCNs, intraductal papillary mucinous cystic neoplasms (IPMNs) are the most common and with their complex biology could represent a precursor lesion of pancreatic cancer. Although multiple guidelines exist to guide their treatment, there are still many "gray areas" on indications for surgery for IPMNs.

COVID-19 infection in chronic myeloid leukaemia after one year of the pandemic in Italy. A Campus CML report.

Limited information is available on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the management of chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML). The Campus CML network collected retrospective information on 8 665 CML patients followed at 46 centres throughout Italy during the pandemic between February 2020 and January 2021. Within this cohort, we recorded 217 SARS-CoV-2-positive patients (2·5%).

Validating a nodal regression system for gastric cancer: An ancillary cohort study of the GASTRODOC trial.

Background: To validate a nodal regression system for gastric cancer and to verify its impact on prognosis.

Methods: This is an ancillary study which included 47 patients of the GASTRODOC trial. The dedicated pathologists of each Institute were invited to revise all the lymph nodes included in the surgical specimens in order to classify the regression according to the grading system proposed by Tsekrekos et al.

Yet, the optimal technique for minimizing fistula occurrence is still unclear. Diagnostic impact of safety protocols for processing peritoneal washing specimens during the global pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019: A comparative study from 195 cytological samples.

Background: The global pandemic of the coronavirus disease 2019 represents a major concern for health services worldwide, and has also induced major changes in cytopathology practice.

Aim: We aimed to verify the diagnostic performance of cytological evaluation under a new safety protocol during the pandemic compared to the standard pre-pandemic procedure. We also aimed to assess how cytological diagnoses and sampling were impacted during the pandemic period compared to the pandemic-free period in 2019.

Operator Evaluation of Ultrasound Fusion Imaging Usefulness in the Percutaneous Ablation of Hepatic Malignancies: A Prospective Study.

The purpose of the work described here was to evaluate the use of ultrasound fusion imaging (US-FI) in percutaneous ablation of hepatic malignancies with respect to its global usefulness, improvement of conspicuity, confidence increment, needle route changes, and time savings. Thirty-four hepatic tumors (28 hepatocellular carcinomas, 6 metastases) were prospectively ablated in 16 consecutive patients (64 ± 11 y, 75% males), first simulating B-mode-only planning and then synchronizing computed tomography/magnetic resonance images with US and proceeding to needle insertion and tumor ablation under US-FI guidance. Surveys were administered to the operators to evaluate their perception of US-FI advantages.

How to perform shear wave elastography. Part II.

Recently a series of papers was introduced describing on "how to do" certain techniques. More specifically we published on how to perform strain imaging using the transcutaneous and endoscopic ultrasound approach and shear wave elastography (SWE). In the first part we describe how to optimize the examination technique, discussing normal values, pitfalls, artefacts and specific tips for applying SWE to specific organs (liver, breast, thyroid, salivary glands) as part of a diagnostic US examination.

Total pancreatectomy and pancreatic fistula: friend or foe?

Postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF) still represents the major driver of surgical morbidity after pancreaticoduodenectomy. The purpose of this narrative review was to critically analyze current evidence supporting the use of total pancreatectomy (TP) to prevent the development of POPF in patients with high-risk pancreas, and to explore the role of completion total pancreatectomy (CP) in the management of severe POPF. Considering the encouraging perioperative outcomes, TP may represent a promising tool to avoid the morbidity related to an extremely high-risk pancreatic anastomosis in selected patients.

Safety and efficacy of a novel electrocautery-enhanced lumen-apposing metal stent in interventional EUS procedures (with video).

Background And Aims: Electrocautery-tip lumen-apposing metal stents (EC-LAMSs) have extended the indications of therapeutic EUS. We aimed to retrospectively evaluate safety and technical and clinical success of a newly developed EC-LAMS, the Hot-Spaxus (Taewoong Medical Co, Gimpo, Korea), for various EUS-guided procedures.

Methods: We included and retrospectively analyzed consecutive patients at 8 tertiary care referral centers who had undergone EUS interventional procedures using the Hot-Spaxus between October 2018 and February 2021.

Risk factors for nodal involvement in early-stage rectal cancer: a new scoring system based on the analysis of 326 cases.

Background: the purpose of this study was to identify which clinicopathological features of early-stage rectal cancer (ESRC) are significantly correlated with the risk of local-regional lymph node metastases (LNM) and to quantify the strength of this association through a novel scoring system. According to several case studies, about 20% of operated ESRC are found with occult lymph nodal metastases at the histological examination. The low frequency of local recurrence in these tumors treated with total mesorectal excision (TME) compared to transanal approaches highlights the role of mesorectal lymph nodes as a site of metastatic location.

Hepatectomy for Metabolic Associated Fatty Liver Disease (MAFLD) related HCC: Propensity case-matched analysis with viral- and alcohol-related HCC.

Background And Aims: We investigated the clinical impact of the newly defined metabolic-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) in patients undergoing hepatectomy for HCC (MAFLD-HCC) comparing the characteristics and outcomes of patients with MAFLD-HCC to viral- and alcoholic-related HCC (HCV-HCC, HBV-HCC, A-HCC).

Background: Oral Lichen Planus (OLP) is an inflammatory chronic disease. Modified World Health Organization (WHO) diagnostic criteria (2003) suggest diagnosing OLP both clinically and histologically. Furthermore, it is known the potential of malignant transformation of OLP, especially those affecting mucosa.

Diagnostic Yield of Endoscopic Ultrasound-Guided Liver Biopsy in Comparison to Percutaneous Liver Biopsy: A Two-Center Experience.

There is scarce and conflicting evidence on the comparison between endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and percutaneous (PC)-guided liver biopsy (LB). The aim of this study was to compare the two approaches in a series of patients with parenchymal and focal liver lesions. Fifty-four patients undergoing EUS-LB in two high-volume centers between 2017 and 2021 were compared to 62 patients who underwent PC-LB.
