Purpose: To assess the association between fluctuations of arterial carbon dioxide early after start of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) with intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) or ischemic stroke (IS).
Materials And Methods: This single-center retrospective study included patients who required ECMO for circulatory or respiratory failure between January 2011 and April 2021 and for whom a cerebral computed tomography (cCT) scan was available. Multivariable logistic regression models were fitted to evaluate the association between the relative change of arterial carbon dioxide (RelΔPaCO) and ICH, IS or a composite of ICH, IS, and mortality.

Background: The aim of this study is to present short- and long-term outcomes after lower extremity bypass (LEB) surgery in patients with chronic limb-threatening ischemia and chronic kidney disease (CKD), differentiated by peripheral artery disease (PAD) Fontaine stage III and IV.
Methods: Retrospective analysis of anonymized data from a nationwide German health insurance company (AOK). Data from 22,633 patients (14,523 men) who underwent LEB from 2010 to 2015 were analyzed, presenting 18,271 with CKD stage 1/2, 2,483 patients with CKD stage 3, and 1,879 with CKD stage 4/5.

Before performing association analysis between phenotypes and genotypes, preprocessing and quality control (QC) of the raw sequence data need to be performed. Background: Conventional low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) quantification includes cholesterol attributable to lipoprotein(a) (Lp(a)-C) due to their overlapping densities.
Objectives: The purposes of this study were to compare the association between LDL-C and LDL-C corrected for Lp(a)-C (LDL) with incident coronary heart disease (CHD) in the general population and to investigate whether concomitant Lp(a) values influence the association of LDL-C or apolipoprotein B (apoB) with coronary events.
Methods: Among 68,748 CHD-free subjects at baseline LDL was calculated as "LDL-C-Lp(a)-C," where Lp(a)-C was 30% or 17.

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is associated with phenotypic variability. To gain insights into transcriptional regulation of cardiac phenotype, single-nucleus linked RNA-/ATAC-seq was performed in 5-week-old control mouse-hearts (WT) and two HCM-models (R92W-TnT, R403Q-MyHC) that exhibit differences in heart size/function and fibrosis; mutant data was compared to WT. Analysis of 23,304 nuclei from mutant hearts, and 17,669 nuclei from WT, revealed similar dysregulation of gene expression, activation of AP-1 TFs (FOS, JUN) and the SWI/SNF complex in both mutant ventricular-myocytes.

Fibrotic diseases affect multiple organs and are associated with morbidity and mortality. To examine organ-specific and shared biologic mechanisms that underlie fibrosis in different organs, we developed machine learning models to quantify T1 time, a marker of interstitial fibrosis, in the liver, pancreas, heart and kidney among 43,881 UK Biobank participants who underwent magnetic resonance imaging. In phenome-wide association analyses, we demonstrate the association of increased organ-specific T1 time, reflecting increased interstitial fibrosis, with prevalent diseases across multiple organ systems.

Aims: For patients with symptomatic drug-refractory atrial fibrillation (AF), catheter ablation to achieve rhythm control is an important therapeutic option. The atrial mechanical dispersion measured as standard deviation of the time to peak strain (SD-TPS) is associated with the risk of AF recurrence following catheter ablation.
Methods: The study cohort prospectively enrolled n = 132 consecutive patients with paroxysmal (n = 88) or persistent AF (n = 44) presenting for de novo pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) and followed for 1 year.
