Purpose: Thermodilution continuous cardiac output measurements (TDCCO) by pulmonary artery catheter (PAC) have not been validated during therapeutic hypothermia in post-cardiac arrest patients. The calculated cardiac output based on the indirect Fick principle (FCO) using pulmonary artery blood gas mixed venous oxygen saturation (FCO-BG-SvO2) is considered as the gold standard. Continuous SvO2 by PAC (PAC-SvO2) has also not been validated previously during hypothermia.

Gastric cancer with peritoneal carcinomatosis is a disease with a poor prognosis. Cytoreductive surgery (CRS) and hyperthermic intraperitoneal perioperative chemotherapy (HIPEC) can improve prognosis, although in most cases this should still be considered as a palliative treatment. Therefore, morbidity has to be avoided at all cost as quality of life is of utmost importance.

DISCRISET: a battery of tests for fast waste classification--application of tests on waste extracts.

Waste Manag

December 2012

University of Hasselt - Biomedical Research Institute, University Hasselt, Campus Diepenbeek, Agoralaan C, B3590 Diepenbeek, Belgium.

The Hazardous Waste Directive (HWD, Council Directive 91/689/EC, 1991) provides a framework for classification of hazardous waste, based on 15 Hazard (H)-criteria. For complex wastes the HWD foresees the application of toxicity tests on the waste material itself to assess its toxic properties. However, these proposed test methods often involve mammalian testing, which is not acceptable from an ethical point of view, nor is it feasible economically.
