The intention of this study was to profile the cohort from the Greek Registry for the prevalence of Familial Hypercholesterolemia (GRegistry-FH) by estimating the prevalence of coronary artery disease (CAD), myocardial infarction (MI), stroke, dyslipidemia, arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus (DM), pre-DM, smoking, abnormal thyroid function (ATF), and lipid values. The GRegistry-FH is a prospective study involving door-to-door interviews conducted by trained interviewers. Overall, 7704 individuals aged ≥18 years, randomly selected from all the regions of Greece, participated.

Introduction: The seasonality of human births has been studied globally for over two centuries, revealing diverse patterns across populations shaped by intricate interactions involving both biological and socio-cultural factors. This study offers a thorough examination of national birth data in Greece spanning from 1956 to 2022, aiming to elucidate long-term trends and changes in seasonal birth patterns.
Materials And Methods: Data on live births in Greece were categorized by month based on national registries, and the analysis of birth seasonality was conducted annually.

Background: Clinical trials and real-world experience have provided evidence for the clinical benefits of mepolizumab, an anti-IL-5 biologic, in severe asthma. However, limited data exist regarding the impact of mepolizumab on airway remodeling.
Objective: We sought to investigate the effect of mepolizumab on airway structural remodeling in patients treated for severe asthma in routine clinical care.

Introduction: Preterm labour is a serious pregnancy complication that is the primary cause of infant mortality, with detrimental impacts on the offspring and the mother in the short as well as the long term. This study aims to comprehensively present the time trends of national preterm birth rates (PBRs) in Greece.
Methods: Official national data regarding live births in Greece were acquired from the Hellenic Statistical Authority, and the annual total PBR and rates for gestational age groups were computed per 100 total live births spanning from 1980 to 2022.

Colposcopy constitutes a pivotal step in the diagnosis and management of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia; nevertheless, the method has several inherent and external limitations. Electrical impedance spectroscopic (EIS) has been among the adjuncts that have been developed to increase the diagnostic accuracy of colposcopy. EIS is based on the principle that the trajectory of electrical current alters depending on the consistency of the tissues.

Introduction: Infant mortality is a crucial perinatal measure and is also regarded as an important public health indicator. This study aimed to comprehensively present time trends in infant, neonatal, and post-neonatal mortality in Greece.
Methods: The annual infant mortality rate (IMR), the neonatal mortality rate (NMR), and the post-neonatal mortality rate (PNMR) were calculated based on official national data obtained from the Hellenic Statistical Authority, spanning 67 years from 1956 to 2022.

Dysregulated hemostasis in cancer patients is associated with various clinical conditions, from thromboembolic complications to disseminated intravascular coagulation. Despite the well-established association between cancer and thromboembolic complications, the mechanisms involved are not completely elucidated. There are several predisposing factors in cancer for increased thrombus generation, such as immobilization and chemotherapy.

There is a lack of reliable biomarkers for diagnosis of infection eradication prior to second-stage reimplantation in two-stage exchange arthroplasty for periprosthetic joint infections (PJIs). The aim of this study was to assess the diagnostic accuracy of rotational thromboelastometry (ROTEM) for persistent infection in two-stage exchange arthroplasties. A pilot, retrospective analysis was performed including 70 patients who underwent a two-stage exchange arthroplasty for PJI.

(1) In recent years, a global epidemiological shift in candidemia has been observed, marked by the emergence of resistant non-albicans Candida species. , in particular, has become a significant global concern, causing infections in both pediatric and adult populations within healthcare settings. Despite its widespread impact, there is a limited understanding of the clinical course and transmission dynamics of neonatal systemic Candida auris infections, hindering effective prevention and management.

Introduction Multiple pregnancy is an established risk factor for fetal death. This study aimed to examine the impact of multifetal pregnancies on stillbirth rates (SBRs) in the Greek population. Methods Data on live births and stillbirths by multiplicity were derived from the Hellenic Statistical Authority, covering a 65-year period from 1957 to 2021.

Background: Aim of the present study is to investigate whether preoperative neurocognitive status is prognostically associated with overall survival (OS) in newly diagnosed glioblastoma (GBM) patients.
Methods: Ninety patients with dominant-hemisphere IDH-wild-type GBM were assessed by Mini Mental Status Exam (MMSE), Trail Making Test (TMT) A and B parts, and Control Word Association Test (COWAT) phonemic and semantic subtests. Demographics, Karnofsky Performance Scale, tumor parameters, type of surgery, and adjuvant therapy data were available for patients.

The assessment of hemostatic disorders in neonates is crucial, but remains challenging for clinicians. Although the concept of developmental hemostasis is widely accepted among hemostasis specialists globally, it is probably under-recognized by clinicians and laboratory practitioners. In parallel with age-dependent hemostatic status maturation, comprehension of the differences between normal values is crucial for the accurate diagnosis of potential hemorrhagic and thrombotic disorders of the vulnerable neonatal population.

We conducted a systematic review aiming to summarize the data on the current hemorrhage prediction models and evaluate their potential for generalized application in the neonatal population. The electronic databases PubMed and Scopus were searched, up to September 20, 2023, for studies that focused on development and/or validation of a prediction model for bleeding risk in neonates, and described the process of model building. Nineteen studies fulfilled the inclusion criteria for the present review.

(1) Background: The importance of group A streptococcus (GAS) infection severity has been recognized in children and adults. However, to our knowledge, there have been no systematic reviews or pooled assessments of the incidence and outcome of invasive GAS (iGAS) disease in neonates, a potentially high-risk population. Therefore, we performed a systematic review of available data regarding the risk factors, clinical presentation, and outcome of GAS infection in neonates.

Autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT) remains a standard therapy for multiple myeloma (MM) patients. Our study aimed to assess the impact of daratumumab-containing induction on stem cell (SC) mobilization, apheresis and hospitalization. We evaluated 200 newly diagnosed MM patients that were mobilized for SC collection and which received induction with ( = 40) or without daratumumab ( = 160).

Introduction: This study aimed at evaluating the role of rotational thromboelastometry (ROTEM) assays in the prediction of in-hospital mortality of neonates with sepsis.
Methods: Over a 6-year period, 129 neonates with confirmed sepsis, hospitalized in our neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) were included in the study. Demographics, clinical, and laboratory data were recorded at the sepsis onset and ROTEM assays were performed.

A large number of prediction models are published with the objective of allowing personalized decision making for diagnostic or prognostic purposes. Conventional statistical measures of discrimination, calibration, or other measures of model performance are not well-suited for directly and clearly assessing the clinical value of scores or biomarkers. Decision curve analysis is an increasingly popular technique used to assess the clinical utility of a prognostic or diagnostic score/rule, or even of a biomarker.
