Background & Aim: Patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) may experience symptoms of sexual dysfunction (SD). However, the magnitude of this problem remains uncertain. Therefore, we performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the prevalence of SD in adult patients with IBD.

Pediatric-onset Multiple Sclerosis treatment: a multicentre observational study comparing natalizumab with fingolimod.

Background: Pediatric-onset Multiple Sclerosis (POMS) patients show more inflammatory disease compared with adult-onset MS. However, highly effective treatments are limited with only fingolimod being approved in Italy and natalizumab prescribed as off-label treatment.

Profiling severe asthma: Any relevance for age? An analysis from Severe Asthma Network Italy (SANI) cohort.

Background: Aging implies changes in terms of lung function, immune system, and respiratory and extra-respiratory comorbidities. Few studies have specifically addressed the relevance of age on severe asthma burden and control. We aimed to evaluate whether age acts as an independent determinant of asthma severity, in terms of clinical, functional, and inflammatory profile, and to explore potential cofactors that contribute to a more difficult disease control in different age groups.

Association between right heart size and right ventricular output reserve in patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension.

Objectives: Right ventricular (RV) output reserve, defined as increase of cardiac output during exercise, is reduced in patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). Aim of this study was to evaluate the association of right heart size measured by echocardiography and invasively measured RV function at rest and during exercise in PAH patients.

Methods: Adult PAH-patients who received routine haemodynamic assessment at rest and during exercise by right heart catheterisation and echocardiographic measurement of right heart size (right atrial (RA) and RV area) were included in this study.

Acute Severe Ulcerative Colitis (ASUC) is a severe form of ulcerative colitis relapse which requires hospitalization and intensive medical intervention to avoid colectomy. The timely recognition of patients at risk of corticosteroid failure and the early initiation of medical rescue therapy are paramount in the management of ASUC. The choice of medical rescue therapy is influenced by multiple factors, especially patient's prior treatment history.

Double agents in immunotherapy: Unmasking the role of antibody drug conjugates in immune checkpoint targeting.

Antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) have high specificity with lesser off-target effects, thus providing improved efficacy over traditional chemotherapies. A total of 14 ADCs have been approved for use against cancer by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), with more than 100 ADCs currently in clinical trials. Of particular interest ADCs targeting immune antigens PD-L1, B7-H3, B7-H4 and integrins.

Mounting evidence emphasizes the crucial role of the gut microbiome in preserving the integrity of the gut barrier and provides insights into the pathophysiological implications of conditions related to leaky gut in humans.

Tissue- and liquid-biopsy based NGS profiling in advanced non-small-cell lung cancer in a real-world setting: the IMMINENT study.

Introduction: To date, for all non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cases, it is recommended to test for driver alterations to identify actionable therapeutic targets. In this light, comprehensive genomic profiling (CGP) with next generation sequencing (NGS) has progressively gained increasing importance in clinical practice. Here, with the aim of assessing the distribution and the real-world frequency of gene alterations and their correlation with patient characteristics, we present the outcomes obtained using FoundationOne (F1CDx) and FoundationLiquid CDx (F1L/F1LCDx) NGS-based profiling in a nationwide initiative for advanced NSCLC patients.

Correction of progressive collapsing foot deformity classes after isolated arthroscopic subtalar arthrodesis.

Introduction: Subtalar osteoarthritis in the context of flatfoot (recently renamed Progressive Collapsing Foot Deformity (PCFD)) may be treated through subtalar joint (SJ) arthrodesis with anticipated consequences on three-dimensional bony configuration. This study investigates the correction of PCFD-related deformities achieved after Anterolateral Arthroscopic Subtalar Arthrodesis (ALAPSTA).

Methods: In this retrospective study, we evaluated pre- and post-operative (at 6 months) weight bearing computed tomography (WBCT) images of patients diagnosed with PCFD with a degenerated SJ (2 A according to PCFD classification) and/or peritalar subluxation (2D) with or without associated flexible midfoot and/or forefoot deformities (1B, 1 C and 1E) which underwent ALAPSTA as a standalone procedure between 2017 and 2020.

How to survive on Mediterranean coastal cliffs: tolerance to seawater in early life-cycle stages in Brassica incana Ten. (Brassicaceae).

Mediterranean coastal cliffs are reservoirs of plant biodiversity, hosting vulnerable plant species particularly exposed to the risk of local extinction due to extreme abiotic conditions and climate changes. Therefore, studies aiming to understand the tolerance of cliff plant species to abiotic stresses are important to predict their long-time persistence or to highlight inherent threats. We used an integrative approach including anatomical, physiological and phenotypic analyses on (a) seeds, (b) cotyledons of seedlings; and (c) young plants to assess whether the cliff species Brassica incana, can tolerate exposure to different seawater (SW: 25%, 50% and 100%) concentrations during the early stages of its life cycle.

Background: Oral nutritional supplements (ONSs) are crucial for supporting the nutritional needs of pediatric populations, particularly those with medical conditions or dietary deficiencies. Bioactive compounds within ONSs play a pivotal role in enhancing health outcomes by exerting various physiological effects beyond basic nutrition. However, the comprehensive understanding of these bioactives in pediatric ONSs remains elusive.

Competition affects mixed-mating strategies by limiting available abiotic or biotic resources such as nutrients, water, space, or pollinators. Cleistogamous species produce closed (cleistogamous, CL), obligately selfed, simultaneously with open (chasmogamous, CH), potentially outcrossed flowers. The effects of intraspecific competition on fitness and cleistogamy variation can range from limiting the production of costly CH flowers because of resource limitation, to favouring CH production because of fitness advantages of outcrossed, CH offspring.
