To comprehensively investigate the effects of exercise on health and disease, animal models play a pivotal role. Zebrafish, a widely utilized vertebrate model organism, offers a unique platform for such studies. This study introduced the development of a cost-effective apparatus tailored for zebrafish exercise studies utilizing readily available materials.

Aim: The angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) and its homolog, the angiotensin converting enzyme 1 (ACE), are involved in COVID-19 physiopathology. Alterations in the enzymatic structure, expression, and/or activity may influence the risk of infection and severity of disease. For this reason, we aimed to identify different allelic forms of ACE2 G8790A and ACE I/D polymorphisms in a Brazilian cohort and evaluate their impact on ACE and ACE2 activities and their association with COVID-19 susceptibility and severity.

Background: a large tibial defect significantly increases the chances of nonunion fractures, changes in the quality of life, and pain. Tibial osteotomy with a large gap size is an unfavorable condition to complete healing.
Purpose: to describe the treatment of a complex case of a six-month nonunion tibial diaphysis osteotomy using conventional pulsed ultrasound therapy (cput).

Despite increasing international demand for interprofessional education (IPE) in health care, there remains limited understanding of the kind of faculty development (FD) activities needed. This paper reports on a protocol for a systematic review to answer the question: What are the available FD activities for IPE facilitators, and which are more effective? The review aims to identify principles and methods to develop competent facilitators in IPE and to identify the implications and effects of FD for IPE concerning individuals, organizations, education, and health practice. Literature was identified through systematic searches in the electronic databases: MEDLINE (Ovid), Embase (Ovid), Eric (EBSCO), CINAHL (EBSCO), Scopus, and Web of Science.

Several strategies are used in the management of delayed-onset muscle soreness (DOMS), but there is not always evidence to justify its use. Photobiomodulation (PBM) is a noninvasive means, with promising previous results of its use in this outcome. This study aimed to identify the effects of PBM in the femoral quadriceps region to reduce DOMS in men undergoing a fatigue protocol.

Cortical thinning occurs throughout the entire life and extends to late-life neurodegeneration, yet the neurobiological substrates are poorly understood. Here, we used a virtual-histology technique and gene expression data from the Allen Human Brain Atlas to compare the regional profiles of longitudinal cortical thinning through life (4004 magnetic resonance images [MRIs]) with those of gene expression for several neuronal and non-neuronal cell types. The results were replicated in three independent datasets.

Background: The number of bariatric surgeries for the treatment of morbid obesity has increased, and there is growing demand for postbariatric abdominoplasty. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impacts of Scarpa's fascia preservation on total drainage volume, time to drain removal, and seroma formation in anchor-line abdominoplasty.
Methods: A total of 42 postbariatric patients were randomly assigned to two groups and underwent anchor-line abdominoplasty.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of adding photobiomodulation therapy and neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) to volleyball athletes' training, focusing on muscle strength and jumping skills. Thirty-six athletes were randomly placed into three groups: control, photobiomodulation therapy, and NMES. The athletes trained to improve their muscle strength and jumping skills.

Sleep shortening during pregnancy may alter the mother's environment, affecting the offspring. Thus, the present study evaluated the metabolic profile of female offspring from sleep-restricted rats during the last week of pregnancy. Pregnant Wistar rats were distributed into two groups: control (C) and sleep restriction (SR).

Background: We aimed to assess recent Latin American medical school graduates' knowledge and attitudes about OSA and examine whether their knowledge and attitudes about OSA differed from practicing physicians.
Methods: Recent medical graduates completed the Spanish translation of the OSA Knowledge and Attitudes (OSAKA) questionnaire at the 2013 national primary-care residency-placement meeting in Ecuador. The OSAKA includes 18 knowledge and five attitudinal items about OSA.

Cancer comprises a group of heterogeneous diseases encompassing high rates of morbidity and mortality. Heterogeneity, which is a hallmark of cancer, is one of the main factors related to resistance to chemotherapeutic agents leading to poor prognosis. Heterogeneity is profoundly affected by increasing levels of ROS.

The Rubber Hand Illusion (RHI) is a perceptual illusion that enables integration of artificial limbs into the body representation through combined multisensory integration. Most previous studies investigating the RHI have involved young healthy adults within a very narrow age range (typically 20-30 years old). The purpose of this paper was to determine the influence of age on the RHI.

Mindfulness refers to an awareness that emerges by intentionally focusing on the present experience in a nonjudgmental or evaluative manner. Evidence regarding its efficacy has been increasing exponentially, and recent research suggests that the practice of meditation is associated with longer leukocyte telomere length. However, the psychological mechanisms underlying this potential relationship are unknown.

Background: The Achilles tendon is one of the tendons most commonly injured by microtraumas and overuse during sports practice. This tendon is especially fragile because of the low blood supply in its central part. Nevertheless, the literature does not offer enough scientific support to explain the composition and vascular dynamic of animal tendons, despite the relevance of being able to observe if the animal tendon undergoes the same processes of vascularization in different regions, as occurs in humans.

Objective: We evaluated whether genistein or estrogen treatment has the same effect when administered immediately or late to rats induced with menopause using ovariectomy.
Methods: Sixty adult female rats were divided into six treatment groups: GI = vehicle immediately after ovariectomy; GII = vehicle 30 days after ovariectomy; GIII = genistein immediately after ovariectomy; GIV = genistein 30 days after ovariectomy; GV = estrogen immediately after ovariectomy; and GVI = estrogen 30 days after ovariectomy. All animals were treated for 30 consecutive days.

Objective: The aim of this study was to quantify mast cells at different time intervals after partial Achilles tendon rupture in rats treated with low-level laser therapy (LLLT).
Background Data: There is a high incidence of lesions and ruptures in the Achilles tendon that can take weeks and even months to heal completely. As the mast cells help in the healing repair phase, and LLLT has favorable effects on this tissue repair process, study of this modality on the quantity of mastocytes in the ruptured tendon is relevant.

Obese people tend to have low zinc circulation levels; this is not always related to zinc intake but can reflect the distribution of zinc in relation to the proportion of body fat and factors related to the inflammatory processes that cause obesity. The purpose of this study was to assess zinc distribution in 15 obese adolescent girls before and after a nutritional orientation program. Participants ranged from 14 to 18 years old (postpubescent) and had a body fat percent (BF%) of >35 %.
