Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of pretreatment with a self-etching primer for bonding aligner attachments to lithium disilicate (LD) and monolithic zirconia (MZ) ceramics.

Methods: Forty ceramics, including LD (n=20) and MZ (n=20), were divided into four study groups according to the surface pretreatments: LD specimens pretreated with universal primer (Monobond Plus, MP) after hydrofluoric acid etching (Group 1); MZ ceramics pretreated with MP after sandblasting (Group 2); LD ceramics pretreated with self-etching ceramic primer (Monobond etch & prime, MEP) (Group 3); and MZ ceramics pretreated with MEP after sandblasting (Group 4). The aligner composite (GC Aligner Connect) and universal adhesive (GPremio Bond) were used to prepare the resin attachments.

Objective: To compare the consistency of two interproximal reduction (IPR) methods in terms of the amount of planned and performed IPR during clear aligner therapy (CAT).

Methods: Thirty-four patients who received IPR using hand-operated abrasive strips (Group 1, 20 patients, 162 teeth) and motor-driven 3/4 oscillating segmental disks (Group 2, 14 patients, 134 teeth) during CAT were included in this preliminary study. The consistency between the planned and performed IPR amounts was evaluated within and between groups for teeth and quadrants.

Verifying the seating of a 3D-printed removable die using elastomeric matrices: A dental technique.

J Prosthodont

March 2024

Department of Reconstructive Dentistry and Gerodontology, School of Dental Medicine, University of Bern, Bern, Switzerland.

Computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing systems enable digital designing and 3-dimensional (3D) printing of definitive casts with removable dies. However, the fit of the removable dies should be without interferences for their accurate positioning in the cast. Given that the accuracy of additive manufacturing depends on design- and manufacturing-related factors, verifying the accuracy of the position of 3D-printed removable dies in their cast is essential to fabricate positionally accurate definitive prostheses, which would enable minimal or no laboratory and clinical adjustments.

Background Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) has revolutionized dental and maxillofacial imaging by providing high-resolution 3D visualizations, essential for accurate diagnosis and treatment planning. Despite its clinical advancements, the usability of CBCT viewer interfaces, which play a crucial role in the effective interpretation of imaging data, remains a critical concern. Objective This study aims to evaluate the usability of a CBCT viewer interface in clinical settings, focusing on the effectiveness, efficiency, and satisfaction perspectives, to identify potential areas for improvement.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on Oral Epithelial Dysplasia (OED), which often shows a lymphocytic/lichenoid immune response (LIR) that complicates diagnosis since it resembles lichenoid mucositis.
  • A total of 44 cases were analyzed, all presenting as well-defined hyperkeratotic plaques without the typical features found in lichenoid inflammation, and varying degrees of dysplasia were observed.
  • The findings highlight a potential diagnostic challenge due to the presence of lichenoid histological features in OED, suggesting that sharing clinical photographs with pathologists could improve diagnostic accuracy for biopsied lesions.

Background: The surface properties of dental and orthopedic implants are directly related to their osseointegration rate. Coating and/or modifying the implant surface might reduce the time of healing. In this study, we aimed to examine the effects of a hybrid surface consisting of a brushite surface coating and cross-linked water-soluble eggshell membrane protein on the osseointegration of titanium (Ti) screws under in vivo conditions.

Since periodontal disease is associated with many systemic diseases, it is important to evaluate its effects on host responses in elderly individuals. To this end, this study investigated salivary interleukin (IL)-17, IL-18, toll-like receptor (TLR) 2, TLR4, and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) levels in patient groups with different periodontal health statuses and immunologically evaluated the relationship between age and periodontal health status. A total of 60 individuals aged 18-40 years (young individuals) and 60 individuals aged 65 years or older (elderly individuals) were included in this study.

Background: Periodontal disease during pregnancy can produce adverse events; in the current study stress was investigated as an exacerbating factors of periodontal disease. The aims of this study were to evaluate the possible associations between stress and pregnancy through scanning for gingivitis and to explore the effect of non-surgical periodontal therapy (NPT) on stress-related markers (CgA, AA, β-endorphin, DHEA, sIgA and NPY) and sex steroid levels (estrogen and progesterone) in pregnant and non-pregnant women.

Material And Methods: A total of 87 subjects; 22 pregnant women with gingivitis, 25 periodontally healthy pregnant women; 22 non-pregnant women with gingivitis and 15 periodontally healthy non-pregnant women, participated in this study.
