Alginate (ALG) and its oxidised form alginate-dialdehyde (ADA) are highly attractive materials for hydrogels used in 3D bioprinting as well as drop-on-demand (DoD) approaches. However, both polymers need to be modified using cell-adhesive peptide sequences, to obtain bioinks exhibiting promising cell-material interactions. Our study explores the modification of ALG- and ADA-based bioinks with the adhesive peptides YIGSR (derived from laminin), RRETEWA (derived from fibronectin) and IKVAV (derived from laminin) for 3D bioprinting.

Choledocholithiasis, characterized by the presence of stones in the common bile duct, poses significant challenges in clinical management, particularly when the stones are massive. While endoscopic methods are often effective in stone removal, complications such as the impaction of foreign bodies like Dormia baskets can occur. These complications may necessitate alternative approaches, including surgical intervention, highlighting the importance of exploring innovative interventional techniques.

Understanding the relationships between structure and properties of aluminosilicate glasses is of interest in magmatic studies as well as for glass applications as mechanical or optical components. Glass properties may be tailored by the incorporation of additional elements, and here we studied the effect of phosphate incorporation on refractive index and the degree of ionic bonding in aluminosilicate glasses. The studied glasses in the system SiO-AlO-NaO-PO had a metaluminous composition (Al:Na = 1) with the content of SiO ranging from 50 to 70 mol% and of PO from 0 to 7.

Introduction: Systemic lupus erythematosus with antiphospholipid syndrome (SLE-APS) represents a challenging SLE endotype whose molecular basis remains unknown.
Methods: We analysed whole-blood RNA-sequencing data from 299 patients with SLE (108 SLE-antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL)-positive, including 67 SLE-APS; 191 SLE-aPL-negative) and 72 matched healthy controls (HC). Pathway enrichment analysis, unsupervised weighted gene coexpression network analysis and machine learning were applied to distinguish disease endotypes.

Objectives: The goal of this study was to test the hypothesis that vasopressin-driven urine concentration overrides the osmotic diuretic effect of glucosuria induced by dapagliflozin treatment.
Methods: DAPA-Shuttle1 (Hepato-renal Regulation of Water Conservation in Heart Failure Patients With SGLT-2 Inhibitor Treatment) was a single-center, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial, in which patients with chronic heart failure NYHA functional classes I/II and reduced ejection fraction were randomly assigned to receive dapagliflozin 10 mg daily or placebo (1:1) for 4 weeks.

Purpose: Cytokine-engineering of chimeric antigen receptor-redirected T cells (CAR T cells) is a promising principle to overcome the limited activity of canonical CAR T cells against solid cancers.
Experimental Design: We developed an investigational medicinal product, GD2IL18CART, consisting of CAR T cells directed against ganglioside GD2 with CAR-inducible IL18 to enhance their activation response and cytolytic effector functions in the tumor microenvironment. To allow stratification of patients according to tumor GD2 expression, we established and validated immunofluorescence detection of GD2 on paraffin-embedded tumor tissues.

Background: A major contributing factor to glioblastoma (GBM) development and progression is its ability to evade the immune system by creating an immune-suppressive environment, where GBM-associated myeloid cells, including resident microglia and peripheral monocyte-derived macrophages, play critical pro-tumoral roles. However, it is unclear whether recruited myeloid cells are phenotypically and functionally identical in GBM patients and whether this heterogeneity is recapitulated in patient-derived orthotopic xenografts (PDOXs). A thorough understanding of the GBM ecosystem and its recapitulation in preclinical models is currently missing, leading to inaccurate results and failures of clinical trials.

Its potential therapeutic role arose in connection with the development of hypomania during stimulation of the subthalamic nucleus (STN) in Parkinson's disease, offering an alternative explanation for the occurrence of this side effect. The 20th century witnessed the emergence of many paradigm-shifting technologies from the physics community, which have revolutionized medical diagnostics and patient care. However, fundamental medical research has been mostly guided by methods from areas such as cell biology, biochemistry, and genetics, with fairly small contributions from physicists. In this Essay, I outline some key phenomena in the human body that are based on physical principles and yet govern our health over a vast range of length and time scales.
