Histological studies of the ontogenetic changes in Arctic marine fishes are often fragmented and incomplete. Here we present a comprehensive histological ontogenetic analysis of the daubed shanny (Leptoclinus maculatus) from the Arctic, characterizing its development as it undergoes a series of changes in the organ and tissue organization, especially during the postlarvae transition from the pelagic to benthic lifestyle. The thyroid, heart, digestive tract, liver, gonads, blood, and the lipid sac of the postlarvae at different developmental stages (L1-L5) were studied for the first time.

We report the discovery of a new abscisic acid (ABA) metabolite, found in the course of a mass spectrometric study of ABA metabolism by the rhizosphere bacterium sp. P1Y. Analogue of (+)-ABA, enriched in tritium in the cyclohexene moiety, was fed in bacterial cells, and extracts containing radioactive metabolites were purified and analyzed to determine their structure.

New representatives of the (SO) ( = Rb and Cs, = Co, Ni) family were found, inspired by the discovery and characterization of itelmenite, a mineral of composition NaCuMg(SO). Four new compounds were obtained by high-temperature solid-state reactions in air. All new compounds were structurally characterized by single-crystal and powder X-ray diffraction.

Optogenetics enables activation/silencing of specific neurons with unprecedented temporal and spatial resolution. The method, however, is prone to artefacts associated with biophysics of light used for illuminating opsin-expressing neurons. Here we employed Tph2-mhChR2-YFP transgenic mice, which express channelrhodopsin (ChR2) only in serotonergic neurons in the brain, to investigate behavioral effects of optogenetic stimulation of serotonergic neurons.

(Na,K)CuO(SO) compounds form structural chains of Cu hexameric units with nominal = 1 spins due to the interplay between inner strong antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic exchanges. We show here that the lattice relaxation after the replacement of alkali by larger Rb and Cs ones is accompanied by the insertion of neutral CuO species into (Rb,Cs)CuO(CuO)(SO) phases. Structurally, interstitial CuO links the next two Cu units in longer Cu tetradecameric ones.

Mesocrystals are nanostructured materials consisting of individual nanocrystals having a preferred crystallographic orientation. On mesoscopic length scales, the properties of mesocrystals are strongly affected by structural heterogeneity. Here, we report the detailed structural characterization of a faceted mesocrystal grain self-assembled from 60 nm sized gold nanocubes.

Single crystals of RbCaCu(PO)O were synthesized by a hydrothermal method in the multicomponent system CuCl-Ca(OH)-RbCl-BO-RbPO. The synthesis was carried out in the temperature range from 690 to 700 K and at the general pressure of 480-500 atm [1 atm = 101.325 kPa] from the mixture in the molar ratio 2CuO:CaO:RbO:BO:PO.

Polyoxometalate (POM) chemistry is an important avenue of comprehensive chemical research, due to the broad chemical, topological and structural variations of multinuclear polyoxoanions that result in advanced functionality of their derivatives. The majority of compounds in the polyoxometalate kingdom are synthesized under laboratory conditions. However, Nature has its own labs with the conditions often unconceivable to the mankind.

There is a growing awareness that pregnancy can set the foundations for an array of diverse medical conditions in the offspring, including obesity. A wide assortment of factors, including genetic, epigenetic, lifestyle, and diet can influence foetal outcomes. This article reviews the role of melatonin in the prenatal modulation of offspring obesity.

Ultrafast excited-state dynamics of CuCl in acetonitrile is studied by femtosecond broadband transient absorption spectroscopy following excitation of the complex into all ligand-field (LF or d-d) states and into the two ligand-to-metal charge transfer (LMCT) states corresponding to the most intense steady-state absorption bands. The LF excited states are found to be nonreactive. The lowest-lying E LF excited state has a lifetime less than 150 fs, and the lifetimes of the second (B) and the third (A) LF excited states are 1 and 5 ps, respectively.

This paper describes the novel approach for preparation of [F]flumazenil ([F]FMZ), well known radioligand for assessment of GABA receptors by PET. The optimized reaction conditions allowed us to implement commercially available SPE cartridges for [F]FMZ purification avoiding HPLC. All procedures were performed with TRACERlab FX N Pro synthesizer in 53 min.

A hydroxyl-dominant analogue of gadolinite-(Y) (OH-Gad) has been discovered in the Heftetjern granitic pegmatite, southern Norway, in association with late-stage rare-earth-element containing minerals. The empirical formula, based on ten O atoms per formula unit, is (YCaCeLaNd)(Fe□)BeSiO(OH). The mineral is monoclinic, space group P2/c, a = 4.

In this study, we have shown that substitution of chloride ligand for imidazole (Im) ring in the cyclometalated platinum complex Pt(phpy)(PPh)Cl (1; phpy, 2-phenylpyridine; PPh, triphenylphosphine), which is nonemissive in solution, switches on phosphorescence of the resulting compound. Crystallographic and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopic studies of the substitution product showed that the luminescence ignition is a result of Im coordination to give the [Pt(phpy)(Im)(PPh)]Cl complex. The other imidazole-containing biomolecules, such as histidine and histidine-containing peptides and proteins, also trigger luminescence of the substitution products.
