Introduction: Spinal pain at night is a major contributor to the patient burden of radiographic axial spondyloarthritis (r-axSpA), resulting in substantial functional limitations and impairment of health-related quality of life (QoL). Ixekizumab (IXE), an interleukin-17A inhibitor, has shown efficacy in patients with r-axSpA.

Objective: To assess spinal pain at night improvement up to week (W) 52 in COAST-V and to determine if clinically important improvement in spinal pain at night at W16 is associated with improvement in disease activity and other patient-reported outcomes (PROs) at W16 and W52.

The aim of the study was testing the hypothesis that body height has a moderating effect on the association of weight and chronic low back pain (LBP) induced disability, and that this moderating effect is different in women and men. We performed a nested cross-sectional analysis using data collected at baseline in a prospective cohort study conducted in 2008-2009 at a special hospital for medical rehabilitation in Croatia. The outcome was the Roland-Morris Disability Questionnaire (RMDQ) score.

Immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) therapies used to treat cancer, such as anti-PD-1 antibodies, can induce autoimmune conditions in some individuals. The T cell mechanisms mediating such iatrogenic autoimmunity and their overlap with spontaneous autoimmune diseases remain unclear. Here, we compared T cells from the joints of 20 patients with an inflammatory arthritis induced by ICI therapy (ICI-arthritis) with two archetypal autoimmune arthritides, rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and psoriatic arthritis (PsA).

Center for Translational and Clinical Research, Department of Proteomics, School of Medicine, University of Zagreb, Zagreb, Croatia.

Fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva (FOP) is an extremely rare disease in which bone tissue forms in extraskeletal sites, which is known as heterotopic ossification (HO). Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are small phospholipid-enclosed particles released by various cells which have an emerging, but not completely understood role in various (patho)physiological processes. In order to further study the pathophysiology of FOP we conducted a small observational study comparing the proteomic profiles of EV cargo, derived from pooled plasma of four patient groups: FOP patient ( = 1) during active disease phase (flare-up), FOP patients during remission ( = 2), patients after long bone fracture ( = 20) and healthy controls ( = 10).

Rheumatol Int

April 2021

University Department of Rheumatology, Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine, School of Medicine Zagreb, University Hospital Centre Sestre Milosrdnice, Vinogradska 29, 10000, Zagreb, Croatia.

Interleukin-6 receptor antagonist tocilizumab is a biologic drug used for treating patients with active rheumatoid arthritis (RA) who failed to respond to synthetic or other biologic disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs or where they were contraindicated. Interleukin-6 receptor blockade results in a decrease of disease activity but has some potential adverse effects, the most common being infections. We present a case of a 75-year-old female patient with long-lasting RA, several comorbidities and multiple prior therapies, who developed back pain and general malaise during tocilizumab intravenous treatment.

Interstitial lung disease (ILD) comprises many heterogeneous disease groups, the largest being CTD-associated and those labelled as idiopathic out of necessity. The mechanisms causing ILD are poorly understood, but most CTD- and idiopathic-ILD cases can respond to immunosuppression, clearly suggesting a pathological role for inflammation. By contrast, corticosteroid immunosuppression causes harm without benefit in the feared idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, suggesting that inflammation plays little pathological role, and where ILD progresses rapidly to lethal outcome even with anti-fibrotic drug use.
