Background And Objectives: Membranous nephropathy is a rare autoimmune kidney disease whose increasing prevalence in industrialized countries pleads for the involvement of an environmental factor in the development of the disease. In addition, the predominance of men in membranous nephropathy, classically attributed to biologic or genetic differences between men and women, could also be due to different occupational exposures. To support this hypothesis, we sought to describe the toxic occupational exposures of patients with membranous nephropathy.

Background: Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) is currently one of the most performed bariatric procedures and it is associated with rapid weight loss. However, weight loss failure and weight regain after RYGB occurs in approximately 30% and 3−5% of patients, respectively, and represent a serious issue. RYGB pouch resizing is a surgical option that may be offered to selected patients with RYGB failure.

Tumour budding is an established prognostic factor in various solid tumours, including colorectal cancers and oral squamous cell carcinomas. However, its role is unclear and needs to be defined for squamous cell carcinoma of the lung (LSCC). Hence, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis investigating the prognostic role of tumour budding in LSCC.

Introduction: Percutaneous screw fixation has recently gained popularity as an alternative to conservative treatment to avoid prolonged immobilization. The placement of a screw in the central axis of the scaphoid has been shown to be biomechanically superior to its eccentricity. Still, it poses difficulties in performing percutaneous screw fixation via both palmar and dorsal approaches.

Introduction: The shortcomings of standardized sunscreen testing have been discussed in recent years, noting differences between how sunscreens perform in indoor clinical (in vivo) laboratory testing compared with real-life conditions. We previously developed an outdoor clinical method for ranking sunscreens by performance level. We used this method to test the performance of a new broad-spectrum sunscreen against International Organization for Standardization (ISO) reference products P3, P5 and P8.

Liquid biopsy (LB) is a minimally invasive method which aims to detect circulating tumor-derived components in body fluids. It provides an alternative to current cancer screening methods that use tissue biopsies for the confirmation of diagnosis. This paper attempts to determine how far the regulatory, policy, and governance framework provide support to LB implementation into healthcare systems and how the situation can be improved.

Local or metastatic relapse following surgery, radiotherapy, and cisplatin is the leading cause of death in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). Our study shows overexpression of c-MET and AXL in HNSCC cells and patients resistant to radiotherapy and cisplatin. We demonstrate that cabozantinib, an inhibitor of vascular endothelial growth factor receptor (VEGFR), c-MET, and AXL, decreases migration, invasion, and proliferation and induces mitotic catastrophe and apoptotic cell death of naive and radiotherapy- and cisplatin-resistant HNSCC cells.

Cancer progression is driven in part by genomic alterations. The genomic characterization of cancers has shown interpatient heterogeneity regarding driver alterations, leading to the concept that generation of genomic profiling in patients with cancer could allow the selection of effective therapies. Although DNA sequencing has been implemented in practice, it remains unclear how to use its results.

Background: PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors prolong survival in treatment-naïve, locally advanced, and metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with positive PD-L1 expression (> 1%/ > 50%). Recent evidence has suggested that tumors with < 1% PD-L1 expression may also be predictive of PD-1/PD-L1 inhibiting agents.
Methods: Systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) evaluating PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors that have assessed tumors with < 1% PD-L1 expression (negative PD-L1 expression).

Rational: The absence of a specific tool to evaluate the impact of supportive care in general and socioesthetics (SE) in particular is undoubtedly at the origin of the lack of published research based on scientific standards.
Objective: We developed a supportive-care, patient-reported outcome questionnaire using the multistep methods, following COSMIN recommendations.
Methods: The Patient Centricity Questionnaire (PCQ) was developed using the standardized methodology for designing patient-reported outcome (PRO) questionnaires according to the following steps: elaboration of the questionnaire, measurement properties of the questionnaire, internal and external validation, test-retest validation and translation, cross-cultural adaptation, and cognitive debriefing.

Biobanking facilities are well established in high-income settings, where substantial funding has been invested in infrastructure. In contrast, such facilities are much less developed in resource-restricted settings. However, low-and middle-income countries (LMICs) still face a disproportionately high infectious diseases burden.

Within solar ultraviolet (UV) light, the longest UVA1 wavelengths, with significant and relatively constant levels all year round and large penetration properties, produce effects in all cutaneous layers. Their effects, mediated by numerous endogenous chromophores, primarily involve the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). The resulting oxidative stress is the major mode of action of UVA1, responsible for lipid peroxidation, protein carbonylation, DNA lesions and subsequent intracellular signaling cascades.

MiTF/TFE translocation renal cell carcinoma (tRCC) is a rare and aggressive subtype of RCC representing the most prevalent RCC in the pediatric population (up to 40%) and making up 4% of all RCCs in adults. It is characterized by translocations involving either TFE3 (TFE3-tRCC), TFEB (TFEB-tRCC) or MITF, all members of the MIT family (microphthalmia-associated transcriptional factor). TFE3-tRCC was first recognized in the World Health Organization (WHO) classification of kidney cancers in 2004.

The evolutionary pressure for life transitioning from extended periods of hypoxia to an increasingly oxygenated atmosphere initiated drastic selections for a variety of biochemical pathways supporting the robust life currently present on the planet. First, we discuss how fermentative glycolysis, a primitive metabolic pathway present at the emergence of life, is instrumental for the rapid growth of cancer, regenerating tissues, immune cells but also bacteria and viruses during infections. The 'Warburg effect', activated via Myc and HIF-1 in response to growth factors and hypoxia, is an essential metabolic and energetic pathway which satisfies nutritional and energetic demands required for rapid genome replication.

Cellular senescence triggers various types of heterochromatin remodeling that contribute to aging. However, the age-related mechanisms that lead to these epigenetic alterations remain elusive. Here, we asked how two key aging hallmarks, telomere shortening and constitutive heterochromatin loss, are mechanistically connected during senescence.
