Background: Older adults commonly experience chronic medical conditions and are at risk of cognitive impairment as a result of age, chronic comorbidity, and medications prescribed to manage multiple chronic conditions. Anticholinergic medications are common treatments for chronic conditions, and have been repeatedly associated with poor cognitive outcomes, including delirium and dementia, in epidemiologic studies. However, no study has definitively evaluated the causal relationship between anticholinergics and cognition in a randomized controlled trial design.

The current study aimed to generate a sulfhydryl-modified β-cyclodextrin-silymarin complex (sulfhydryl-modified β-CD-SMN complex) and to evaluate the enchantment in solubility, permeability, and bioavailability of a model BCS Class IV drug silymarin (SMN). For this purpose, sulfhydryl-modified β-CD was synthesized by replacing all primary and secondary -OH groups at the β-CD backbone with sulfhydryl groups via a novel microwave-assisted technique. Afterward, sulfhydryl-modified β-CD was complexed with silymarin and characterized by FTIR and H NMR spectroscopy.

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is characterized by recurrent interruptions in breathing during sleep and is associated with a wide range of significant health concerns, particularly cardiovascular complications. This review focuses on the two primary forms of sleep apnea, namely, obstructive and central, with OSA being the most prevalent and commonly linked to conditions, such as hypertension, arrhythmias, and heart failure. Intermittent hypoxemia, activation of the sympathetic nervous system, systemic inflammation, and remodeling of the ventricles are some of the pathophysiological mechanisms that link OSA to cardiovascular disease (CVD).

Objective: As the profession of pharmacy continues to evolve, it is important to integrate pharmacy practice change learning into the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) curriculum. The objective of this project was to evaluate how pharmacy practice change was being taught within a PharmD curriculum and to identify strategies for improvement.

Methods: The College of Pharmacy's PharmD Curricular Leadership Committee (PDCLC) developed a definition for practice change learning and assembled a team of faculty experts to map practice change to the PharmD curriculum.

Objectives: To investigate the protective effects of polyphenol-enriched fraction (PEF) derived from a Chinese herbal compound granule (HCG) against D-galactose (DG) induced injury in PC12 cells, and to analyze the metabolic pathways related to PC12 cell proliferation and apoptosis through a hydrogen-nuclear magnetic resonance (H-NMR) metabonomic study.

Methods: The PEF was separated from HCG extraction and quantified by ultraviolet spectrophotometry following purification. DG-induced PC12 cells were treated with three different dosages of PEF.

The goal of this project was to demonstrate that subpopulations of cells in tumors can uniquely fluctuate in size in response to environmental conditions created during drug treatment, thereby acting as a dynamic "rheostat" to create a favorable tumor environment for growth. The cancer modeling used for these studies was subpopulations of melanoma cells existing in cultured and tumor systems that differed in aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH) activity. However, similar observations were found in other cancer types in addition to melanoma, making them applicable broadly across cancer.

Huntington's disease (HD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by motor dysfunction and cognitive decline. While retinal abnormalities have been documented in some HD patients and animal models, the nature of these abnormalities-specifically whether they originate in the inner or outer retina-remains unclear, particularly regarding their progression with age. This study investigates the retinal structure and function in HD transgenic mice (R6/1) compared to C57BL/6 J control mice at 2, 4, and 6 months of age, encompassing both pre-symptomatic and symptomatic stages of HD.

Introduction: Little is known about how pharmacists' attitudes and stigma toward naloxone and Medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD) influence effective linkage to treatment. We examine the psychometrics of a new Pharmacist Opioid Use Disorder Perceptions Questionnaire (P-OUDP-Q), a multidimensional measure to examine pharmacists' stigma and perceptions related to MOUD in the New York State (NYS) site of the HEALing Communities Study.
