Herein, we report on the translation of a small scale ball-milled amidation protocol into a large scale continuous reactive extrusion process. Critical components to the successful translation were: a) understanding how the different operating parameters of a twin-screw extruder should be harnessed to control prolonged continuous operation, and b) consideration of the physical form of the input materials. The amidation reaction is applied to 36 amides spanning a variety of physical form combinations (liquid-liquid, solid-liquid and solid-solid).

Background: Resistant hypertension is characterized by elevated blood pressure (BP) despite using 3 antihypertensive agents. Ambulatory BP monitoring (ABPM) detects the presence of white-coat resistant hypertension (24-hour BP <130/80 mm Hg). The aim of the study was to evaluate risks of death in resistant hypertension compared with controlled hypertension, as well as in ABPM-confirmed (24-hour BP ≥130 or 80 mm Hg), versus white-coat resistant hypertension.

Wave runup, the excess water level above mean sea level, has been measured using different techniques with varying degrees of precision and associated practical limitations. This critical parameter, typically included in coastal assessment studies, varies temporally and spatially and depends on variables that include beach characteristics and nearshore hydrodynamics. Access to continuous datasets, using efficient mechanisms can assist resource-limited regions, such as Caribbean small-island developing states (SIDS), in overcoming coastal resilience obstacles.

Chitin-derived furans offer a sustainable alternative feedstock for nitrogen appended aromatic compounds. Herein, we address the challenge of using chitin-derived furans, 3-acetamido-5-acetylfuran (3A5AF) and 3-acetamido-5-furfural aldehyde (3A5F), to favour the formation of exo Diels-Alder adducts and 4-acetylaminophthalimides respectively, using a mechanochemical ball-milling technique. Mechanochemical activation is explored through the synthesis of 7-oxa-norbornene backbones with novel substitution pattern from 3A5AF in yields up to 77 % and improved exo:endo selectivity compared to solution-phase reactions.

While numerous studies have assessed the association between temperature and diarrhoea in various locations, evidence of relationship between heat wave and diarrhoea is scarce. We defined elevated daily mean and maximum temperature over the 95th and 99th percentiles lasting for at least one day between March to October 1981-2010 as TAV95 and TAV99 and D95 and D99 heat wave, respectively. We investigated the association between heat wave and daily counts of hospitalisations for all-cause diarrhoea in Dhaka, Bangladesh using time series regression analysis employing constrained distributed lag-linear models.

Three different crystal morphologies of α-FeO, including uniform hexagonal, square, and rhombic shapes, were prepared according to the aqueous-thermal reaction. The hexagonal-shaped α-FeO was enclosed by the 104 plane, while the square and rhombic structures were enclosed by the 110 plane. Two absorption peaks at 455 and 532 cm were found for the perpendicular (⊥) modes, and one absorption peak at 650 cm appeared for the parallel (||) mode for hexagon-shaped α-FeO during analysis by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy.

Developmental and epileptic encephalopathies (DEEs) feature altered brain development, developmental delay and seizures, with seizures exacerbating developmental delay.
